Calling all SINGLE solo travelers

Hi, anyone from NJ? 27 year old female here. Going on my 8th trip to Disney in October and it's my 4th solo.

does nyc count? 48 yo male here. Going on my I-don't-even-know-what-number solo trip also in october. what dates?

Welcome to the boards! A few years ago (4?) my sisters and I went to Universal and went on Men In Black all day one day. We went through the singles line and managed to go on it 45 times in one day!

I've only been to WDW once, a little over 6 years ago as a family of 4. Now that I'm divorced I'm taking my DS18 for his graduation present (just the 2 of us). We'll be going June 28 - July 6, probably the busiest time of the year, but because of when he heads off to college it's the only time we can do it.

I'm 47 but don't consider my "sell by date" even close! (Translation: still hoping!) I have to grow old, I don't have to grow up!

Canadian girl here! LOL! SWF 28yo planning my next trip for Dec. with mother. (some habits die hard!) :goodvibes I'll be there nov. 26-dec.11
Anyone wanna hook up for some thrill rides one day? Maybe some innocent flirting?

I have never gone solo to WDW, to be honest I couldn't even imagine going solo...I need somewhere with me to share my excitement with. How do all of you do it solo? Don't you miss someone there to share the experience with?

If you're going with 18yo DS, you might want to consider Universa Studios and Universal Islands of Adventure. The testersone level; is much higher than that of the riseds at WDW. I'm with you on the growing old / growing up part!

Pooh - I felt the same way unitl I actually went solo. I actually prefer it now to travelling with kids - no potty breaks, no "what are we doing next?" etc. Don't get me wrong, WDW is great with kids but there's no reason it can't be without them. Doing it without anyone to share it with takes a little getting used to, but the advantages far outweigh the cons. Feeling in commando mode? Go for it. Want to linger over lunch with a cocktail (or two)? Do it. Ride the same ride 3 times in a row? Be your own guest. The only person you have to answer to is yourself. And as far as I know, you won't argue with yourself, whatever the choice you make. If the prospect of a solo flight is still too daunting, make arrangements (on DIS, for example) with other similar-minded folks and link one day at a time. When you fly solo, if you use the single riders line (what a great invention!) and are careful about using fastpass, you won't have to wait in any lines at all. My last trip, I walked right into the Mission: Space briefing room three times in a row! Eating alone is usuallly the toughest part. But, people being people, and WDW being the magical places it is, you won't even notive it after a while. Trust me. And trust the magic!

I am doing my first full trip solo, I ended up solo last May after the guy I was with decided NOT to stay in Disney...he wanted Daytona
so told him find a ride to the airport!! so I got to spent 3 fulll days alone. I did totally enjoy it! this is a first for me...I am always surrounded with friends, and never go anywhere alone! But I also do not have anyone who remotely likes disney(they are sick) ....and I am in between semters at school.......I needed a break. I also was coming down with a BF who I broke up with a few weeks ago(he is no longer going). I was not going to cancel MY trip!!! so we will see.....for me, if there will ever be another solo...It feels sort of bitter sweet..... but I will know in 15 days!!.......I am meeting up with someone for lunch. and I am open to doing what ever!!

I was there for my birthday last year and got a button from each of the four parks.

Ooh, I didn't realize that each park had different ones! I only have the MK one. Oh, darn, now I just have to go back on my birthday again! :rolleyes1:

Don't forget to pack birthday candles if you go on your birthday!

Hi All-

Count me in on the Single Solo Trips. I am 37 M from New Jersey, and have traveled solo to WDW a few times, most recently this past December. I LOVE going solo, as I can do what I want when I please.

Looking forward to going back SOLO hopefully soon. I am also going on the Disney Repo Cruise in August solo.

Love this thread!
Bob
P.S. Craig- I just read your trip report from December, and LOVED it! Looking forward to hearing about your May trip! Happy Birthday too!

I, too, finally had to wade in here. This is my first ever post, It's nice to know that there are other folks who enjoy the world so much. SWM, 48, never married. I too, might have missed my "must sell by date" (very clever!),

I too missed my "sell by date" (I really like that - may I borrow it) but would never consider Europe alone for more than a couple days. Maybe it is the female thing but as much as I like Europe when I was there alone I lacked the confidence to venture to far. There is definately confidence for me knowing someone else is as lost as I am - LOL.

BUt the world, alone been doing it for 10 years. Even cruised alone. I have met the nicest people through Disney. I never felt truly alone when Disneywas/is involved.

Welcome to the boards. Isn't October a great time to visit!!

Really? Pack candles for what? Is there some event they would ask you for candles for?

As far as I'm concerned, almost any time is a good time to visit the world, but October is the best! And feel free to borrow away on that particular expression - I was replying to someone who had used it on a prior post. Feeling comfortable flying solo in Europe is pretty much the same as in the world, except they don't all speak English (an awful lot do, though). It's just a matter of gaining confidence. The first day I ever spent in Europe was in Rome with my girlfriend some years ago. She gave me a quick orientation tour, handed me a map and said, "You're on your own. I'll meet you back at the hotel for dinner." I didn't speak a word of Italian, mind you, and had absolutely no clue how to maneuver around a brand new foreign city with only a map for guidance / reassurance. Once I overcame my initial fear, it was quite a rush - kind of , "Wow, I can do this." That was the best lesson I ever had in touring. After that, I never looked back. You can do it too - it's just taking that loooong, fearful first step. Even if you don't speak the language, the front desks at all 4 star hotels speak English, many better than some of those folks who live in my native NYC. On the street, even if you haven't mastered the language, the locals will go out of their way to help you if they see you're at least trying. Since that first shock treatment, I have visited Naples, Rome, Tuscany, Florence, Pisa, Venice and Paris, many times solo. It's getting over that first hurdle - my own insecurity - that was the tough part. It's a great learning experience after that and the feeling you get inside that you're actually doing it cannot be described. I highly recommend it! I'd add a few cute icons, but I haven't figured them out yet!

Ok I am supposed to be doing research on my Trip to Hawaii next week, but all I really want to do is read about everyone who is going to disney. I know I have a serious case of Disneyitis. This is the first trip in a long time when I won't be going to any theme parks. I even went to universal four times last time I was in California. I didn't get to disneyland unfortunately, because the person I was supposed to go with had to work. So I just kept taking the train to Universal. Ever notice on a solo trip you end up taking lots of photographs for other people? Or maybe it's just me.

On the birthday pin note, just tell them you're "celebrating your birthday" they don't need to know if it's four days away or not.

For throwing yourself impromptu birthday parties! :) I picked up some chocolate cake from the resort food court as my "birthday cake" last year, and my mom sang Happy Birthday over the phone, but then I realized I had no candles to blow out!

I'm cracking up trying to come up with an event where Disney would ask you for candles ;) "So, you want to buy an Annual Pass? Okay, we need a photo ID, the autograph of your third grade teacher, a roll of duct tape, a video tape of you line dancing, your last tax return, a photo of your goldfish, and three birthday candles. WHAT? You didn't bring candles?"

on these boards for ages. I just had to join to add my info!
I'm a 34 SMF (M= mutt half hispanic/greek!), born & raised in NYC.
Although I am very shy but, my love of Disney, and no willing participants, compelled me to give a solo trip a shot back in 2/04. I absolutely loved it. Going back May 12-17th and again to celebrate my B-day Nov 25-Dec 2.

If you're down there during those dates and happen to be blinded by bright red curly hair, say hi!
