Calling all single moms!

Another single mom here taking a trip with my 6yr old son in November. Looking forward to our trip.

Need to start thinking of how to get pics of the two of us together. I'm sure there will be people that wouldn't mind snapping some pics of us together.

Thanks for all your previous suggestions!!:thumbsup2

Another single mom here!

I am taking DD6 for the third time this August/September. We love it and it really is the only place we vacation. Having so many options for activities, food, fun, plus the built in transportation anyplace (especially to/from the airport) it is just so awesome. I can basically leave my brain at home! :lmao:

I agree with a lot of what PP said. I bring my own stroller, make sure I have lots of snacks, and utilize Disney photographers. You do need to give yourself extra time for getting place to place, like someone else mentioned. I could not believe how many people are willing to lend a hand when they see you are alone. We have spent many nights at the bus stops, and DD was asleep and I would have to pick her up, fold up stroller and get all bags/fans/drinks on the bus. Someone always offers to hold something or give up their seat to me. People are really nice.

The memories we have created there are unmatched! We do what we want, when we want to. (like eating Mickey ice cream bars for breakfast) Disney is the one place I can spend the most uninterrupted time with DD. The rest of the world can blow up and we would never know!

And kudos to the single dads out there! Haha - I was just telling a friend of mine that my fantasy is meeting a nice single dad while we are at Disney, just to hang out with, and maybe share a Dole Whip!! ;)

I'm worried about this too...we don't really have pics together as it is, and I want this vacation documented :magnify:

Single Dad here.

I have traveled to the parks 3 times with just me and my kids. Once with a 2 and 3 year old girls, once with 4 and 5 year old girls, and once with 7 and 8 year old girls. It is always magical, but sometimes difficult with only one adult. (especially when I need to use the bathroom).

Based on your child's age, here is some advice:
1. Have a good stroller. A jogger stroller is preferable because of the ability to carry so much extra stuff.

2. Have extra drinks and snacks with you at all times. Getting food is a lot more difficult and time consuming with only one adult. Having a quick granola bar or fruit snacks to tide them over makes things a lot easier.

3. Spend some time at the various playgrounds in the parks. It is a great time to let them run off steam while you can sit and catch your breath.

4. Bring a blanket with you and plan on taking lots of naps. I found when I put my tired kids in the stroller with a blanket and rolled around the parks, they fell asleep in no time.

5. Plan for extra time. Getting on and off the buses, getting stuff from the stroller, or general navigation is sometimes more time consuming without two sets of adult hands. You have to watch your kid and do something at the same time, in a busy crowd. It will take longer, so plan for it.

6. When in doubt, ask a Cast member. They are great for helping distract your kid while you do something. (like go to the bathroom)

Good luck! It is always fun. And just think of how lucky you are to be the only one who sees the Magic in their eyes when you take them to the parks!

Good thoughts here.

However, the best stroller is one that's easy to fold and lightweight! As for playgrounds, we actually didn't do too many. My dd is an only and a bit shy, so it's not as much fun without a playmate. Someone mentioned bringing a plastic container for leftovers. Great idea! I also always carry some ziplock bags. They've come in handy at some odd moments. Also, for carrying to the park, I usually carried a bigger backpack with snacks, clothes, diapers (if not potty trained), etc. I also had a waistpack for my money, park tickets, etc. That way, I could put the waistpack into the backpack for travelling on the bus, wear it in the park and put the backpack into the stroller. (Nothing valuble in the backpack. Leave the lovey in the room and buy a stuffed Pluto for the stroller!)

At that age, don't expect to get it all done. My first trip my dd (3) was utterly happy sitting in the stroller playing with some princess figurines we'd bought. My sister thougth I should "make" her do some of the things I thought I wanted to see, but I said "I know we'll be back. We'll get to it eventually."

Getting food can be tricky. Navigating a tray, a child, a stroller is enough to make you cry when you have to go get ketchup! But it's doable and worth it!

I have the same fantasy about meeting a single woman who shares my same love for Disney.

But I find it is hard enough finding any date when you have 4 little girls, let alone be lucky enough to find someone who loves Disney. :sad1:

Still a good dream though!

Well then, perhaps we should meet up! LOL

I know what you mean, it is hard to find the time with even one child, I can't imagine 4!

OMG! I remember those days! I've been going with DD since she was 4 (now 11) about 1-2x a year. She still used a stroller around Disney at that age. I'd have her push the stroller with put things in it, while I carried the tray.

It is easier now. Before, there was no Magical Express and you had to go through Mears, you had to get your own luggage. Two suitcases, three carry ons, a stroller, and a kid by yourself can get upsetting. So, I LUV Magical Express! I love how Disney wisks you around on their buses. It makes for such an easy vacation. I don't want to be panicking in a car driving around some strange area lost. It's great to be able to go to the park for a little while, come back and have naps, go swimming, etc, and then go back to the park for a few more hrs. Each trip, you get to do more and more as they grow and can go on different rides. It makes every trip a little bit different and special.
