Calling all Princesses! (2014 Princess Half Marathon Weekend)- thread #2

Hi everyone! :wave2: I've been reading posts and great advice on here for a long time now and finally decided to join in. This will be my 4th Princess half and I'm doing the GSC this year too. It's become my favorite weekend of the year and I cannot wait for it to be here really soon!! :)

Welcome! pixiedust:

Your princess half experience is most definitely welcome, and appreciated here!

Like the add one mile a week if already at 4. Good call. :thumbsup2

On to the TM....
I do feel unbalanced coming off that thing sometimes, but after a minute or so I am fine. I have trained for the Princess on a TM...yes, all my runs, but I only go to 10 miles. I am a wimp getting out in anything under 50 degrees. I will do 10 tomorrow on the TM. I have done 14 once when training for a full...that is an experience.

On another note...I found an old KTTW and it has a sticky note on it that says I have one park day left. Wonder if there is a way to find out if I really do. Anyone know?

Stay Healthy!

Trying entering it in My Disney Experience. I bet it will tell you if it's still active. It might even be there for you already, I know some of my previous tickets/room keys were!

Thank you, thank you.
It is an old ticket so I had to find a different screen via prompts...I DO have one day left :banana:

I wasn't on planning on doing all my training runs on the treadmill but Mother Nature isn't playing nice. This below zero crap is for the birds. We have lots of snow and ice under that snow. Walking can be a trek in itself. So the TM and I are pretty tight. Keep hearing next week it will be warmer but every time next week comes its just as bad. This weather will just make me appreciate our vacation that much more.

Happy New Year Princesses! I did 45 min in the 30 degree morning before I could change my mind:) felt good!

Anyone have any suggestions for cross training workouts that I can get on demand or from netflix? Not really a gym person but need something more.

It's not on Nexflix but YouTube. It is Hasfit.com
He literally has 300 workout posted on his channel.
Beginner to advance level. I use these as I have a 3 month old and cannot go to the gym either.

I'm mightily out of my training - had to take the month of December off so I'm a little panicky now but looking forward to getting back into it - I am determined to see that finishing line!

Just doing PHM itself! :)

My costume (custom from Iglow running) areived yesterday and I am super chuffed!! Cant wait to train it in... Total motivation :)

There's no "just" in doing a half marathon!

Hang in there, just get back into it slowly and you will get to the finish! Jealous of your costume- I did not even start thinking about one. Oops.....

previous princesses (or princes) - exactly how awful is the expo on the first day?

we've always gone on the second and had no problem getting in, but with the 5k we have to go on the first this year. we're planning on doing epcot in the morning and HS in the evening. no real reservations except fp+ at HS starting at 3, and dinner at 6:45. if we left for the expo at 12, would that give enough time to get there, explore, and head back? we are not big expo shoppers at all. we just get our bibs, do a lap, and head out.

afnaechiquita Not sure on the expo...the added day, last years mess, who know? Hope it is not too bad as I will arrive just after noon and plan to spend my afternoon there if needed.

Got my TM miles in :banana: all 10!

Then showered, ate and book late afternoon tea at the GF for Sunday after the race!

Figured it would be fun as I am traveling by myself and after I run, I plan to cheer other at finish so will probably just grab a burger or something at hotel when I get back to room.

i know last year was a mess.. hopefully it being back at WWOS will help that :|

congrats on the TM 10 miles! i couldn't go for so long on the TM.

I think you'll be fine with that approach. Expo was a hot mess this year, but only in regard to rD merchandise; I was there when it opened and stood in line for 10ish minutes just to get in, then another 45ish in line to pay for rD merchandise - I heard it got worse after that. But I had no wait at all for packet pick-up and a very short, albeit disorganized, wait in line to get my gear bag and shirt. The vendors area was congested only because it was a lot of stuff packed into a small space; that should be rectified by the return to WWOS.

Good job, and that sounds like a great way to celebrate post-race! I have absolutely nothing planned yet; feel like my brain just needs to get through marathon weekend before it can contemplate PHM.

Thanks!! If only I had discovered this awesome message board before the 2011 Princess maybe I would have been a bit more prepared for it but I somehow miraculously still managed to get everywhere I needed to be on time which is certainly unusual for me :) hopefully some of the things I've learned might help some of the first time princesses :)

On another note, does anyone have any good stretches to relieve what appears to be mild hip bursitis? At first it was just a mild annoying pain on the outside of my hips that would only start after I ran about 44 minutes and then the pain got worse last week, so I have taken a full week off from running and have been trying to stretch/ice my hips because I would rather take time off now instead of late Jan :( for some reason I always seem to get a random December running injury every year...

Yep, this one!

I had a bad case of hip bursitis in late Sept. - it's gone now, but I had a cortisone injection and the tissue damage from that tightens things up regularly all through my outer hip. That stretch, in particular, brings a lot of relief! I lean in toward a wall, so I can really push the stretch through the IT Band without worrying about falling over.

I would get very acquainted with a foam roller aswell as doing hip opener stretches like the pigeon and butterfly and the stretch that was posted by princess V. I would also do hamstring stretches. Having tight quad, glutes and hamstrings also cause hip pain.

My hips had been hurting all fall! I started foam rolling my IT band before and after running, stretching and doing a "hip opening" yoga routine/hip mobility exercises a few times a week, and focusing more on hips during strength training.

This stretch is my favorite (you can do it while standing too, but I had trouble finding an image):

Lately they've been doing so much better! It took a little while before I noticed any results but they weren't too bad at all my last long run

I agree with the foam rolling - but be careful; you do NOT want to roll over the inflamed bursa itself! That'll just make things worse when it comes to bursitis.

So it looks like running is out for a bit for me. But I'm still planning on coming to Princess (lots of reasons why, but I'm coming) and at least attempting to finish by walking...quickly. :)

Right now I will be in Corral A. Should I just start there (banking me the wave start difference times) and stay off to the side? I'm also thinking about maybe the whole 3/1 walk/run thing...either way, I gotta try.

Anyone have any experience or suggestions? I really do want to finish and get that C2C pink medal.

This one felt great! I just tried it at work and it felt wonderful, so I will definitely be adding it to my stretch routine! I want to avoid cortisone shots unless the pain gets really, really bad. I did have one once for a cyst and it was not an experience that I would like to repeat anytime soon :(

I have been doing the butterfly in my routine, but I agree that I should probably stretch out all the leg muscles and add some careful foam rolling in to loosen everything up and hopefully make it go away for good :)

awesome! Thank you so much! I am already doing a version of that one stretch but with that right leg flat on the floor and pulling that left leg very gently towards my chest. That one feels great so I can't wait to try these later tonight :goodvibes

I'm really hoping that this combo of stretching/time off from running makes a difference. Rheumatoid arthritis runs in my dad's side of the family so any pain in/near my joints is pretty worrisome. I'm only 24 and would rather not have that issue anytime soon
