Calling all Princesses! (2014 Princess Half Marathon Weekend)- thread #2

Sunny and 41 degrees here. Going out to run 8 miles in the great outdoors! No treadmill today!

Congratulations to all the WDW Marathon weekend runners! Especialy inspired by those who ran Dopey!

Dh and I ran 10 miles this morning! We are in South FL and it was about 70 degrees when we went out, it was nice.
After about 7 miles, I asked myself "Why am I doing this?" It was getting tough and my heel hurt, but I pushed through and finished. My pace was about 12:30 mm. Not bad.
Congratulations to everyone who participated in the Marathon weekend events, especially those who completed the Dopey challenge. That took a lot of work and commitment. Way to go!

Finally back to training after a nasty bout with the flu, but getting excited and very nervous! :)

Newbie question: Does anyone else's face turn bright red when running? It looks and feels like I have a horrible sunburn all over my face anytime I go on my longer runs.

yes... always. people always stare at me with concern like i am going to pass out. nope, just hot!

Well, it's been fun, ladies, but unfortunately I have finally given into my DH's not so gentle hints to defer the Glass Slipper Challenge.

I am in fine shape to run it, but at the time of the races, I will be 20 weeks pregnant and he would prefer if I held off until next year.

It's really a hard pill for me to swallow because I am in good shape and can easily do it (and I desperately want those medals). However, I'm still going to Disney to relax for a few days and will do the 5k with my mom.

Good luck to all!

Take care of yourself and your baby. There will be more races, but that little life is precious. I didn't even start running until I was 46 and my youngest was in high school.

Anybody run this weekend? I am in awe of the individuals who completed the dopey challenge. What an accomplishment.

So I was looking at my information that I put in when I registered and when it asked me for my pace, the selection box was 13:00-16:00 mm. I was not required to put in proof of time as it is just the 10k, but I am curious how they will corral people. Seems like a huge pace difference.

I ran the 1/2 this weekend, it was my first 1/2, I had an awesome time! Can't wait for the Princess next month!!
I was in corral G this weekend (submitted a 1:01 10k time) and submitted the same proof of time for the Princess, I wonder if the corrals will be similar for the Princess?

Take care of your precious little one, enjoy Disney, and we'll see you in 2015! :thumbsup2

Thank heavens it's not just me! I was seriously thinking about going as Sebastian from The Little Mermaid just so my face would blend in.

:lmao:
I am exactly the same way. It's a family trait, my sister and my cousin and my dad and I all get SO red at the least thing. A 10 min run, a warm car ride, a glass of wine.... :rotfl:

I don't know why, maybe it's because I've only done night races so far, but my pictures don't seem quite that bad. Or maybe it's because you just don't care how you look so much since you are so darn proud that you are running for hours and then, oh, here you are taking a picture with a Disney character!:woohoo: Even the picture I took this year at mile 10.5 of the w&d, just about 10 min before I tossed my Gatorade (metaphorically), came out ok!

My advice is don't worry about it and just enjoy the experience!

oh yes... sometimes in meetings colleagues like to pick on me. beet red instantly. so bad!

mine doesn't show up too much in my disney race photos. all other races, it's there. i chalk it up to pixie dust.

I am hating the treadmill right about now, never felt any pain while running on outside. Been running it a bit now and behind my knee is hurting. There is a lot of ice outside, both on roads and sidewalks so I am afraid to run outside but the furthest I have done walk/run is about 8 miles and that is back the end of November. I have done just over 6 since a few times, but if this ice doesn't go away I might go nuts!

Now that we're closer to the race and most of us have figured out where we're staying and booked, I thought it might be fun to start of list of our usernames, what races we're running, and what costumes we're thinking of! If you're working on a PTR or training diary post the link and I'll add that to the list too!

Anybody run this weekend?
Yep, I ran the half! Weather-wise, it was nearly a repeat of 2013 Princess: temps in the high-60s and almost 100% humidity... perfect for this FL girl, but pretty miserable for a whole lot of others.

I was in corral J and started in about the first 1/4 of the corral and never had any real problems with being blocked by walkers. I had a great first half of the race and honestly felt like I was placed in the right corral at around a 13:15-13:45/mile pace. WDW races are just plain crowded; there was never a spot at which I had the road all to myself, but there was always room to go around others who were slower and to allow faster folks around me when I slowed down. At risk of sounding judgmental, I think perhaps some people go into these races with unrealistic expectations; it's a go-with-the-flow kind of race for the majority of us - unless one is an elite or near-elite, in which case he/she ought to have turned in a time for a spot in the elite or A corral to avoid the other 20,000+ slower folks. :)

I suspect we'll be bumped up a corral or two, just because PHM tends to be a slower field than the WDW Half.

Yup, the humidity was a killer! I stupidly ordered a cotton tshirt for this race without thinking it through...at about mile 1 I was wishing I had ordered a drifit shirt instead

Moving up a corral would be great, more time to stop for pictures! I skipped a bunch this weekend because I was afraid of being behind on my time (I was dealing with back pain and wasn't sure if I would have to walk a portion of the race or not and wanted to give myself as much time as I could)

Awesome! I started training to run the first mile so that I could get moving and maybe get a jump on time and the corral crowd. Then I plan on doing my run/walk ratio the rest of the way. :) I'm also a FL girl so not worried about the temp too much. :)

Did 4 miles today at just under a 14 mm pace. Not too shabby. Thinking about signing up for a 10k next weekend. It has a 2 hour time limit so I figure it will be a great indicator for me race wise. :)

Hi all. My wife and I are running as a Rapunzel/Flynn Rider team. She's been working on the costumes but I asked her the other day if she expected me to run in long pants. She said no, but I think if I'm in shorts it won't really be as cool as it could be. Does anyone have any advice? I did the ToT in a costume that had really thin spandex-like material for the legs, but that was at night. I'm concerned if the weather goes +70 degrees regular pants might be too hot for me. (I did the Goofy last year and was very, very happy I wore shorts).

You folks are always so creative about costumes, and I'm not very creative, so I thought I'd consult the experts!

Thanks in advance, and good luck to all.
