ghoulishgirl - Strange question: Did you and your mom do last year's TOT13k? and if so, does your mom have a minnie head tattoo with 15K inside it? If so, then I think that I have met you! My DH and I talked to a mother daughter team on a bus to SSR to pick up the race packets the day before the race. I keep looking at the picture in your sig, and I keep saying to myself that those people look so familiar... then it dawned on me this morning. If that wasn't you, sorry... and "Hi! to the mother daughter team that I did talk to on the bus to SSR!"

Back to your regularly scheduled race discussions.

Tri Mom, Yes that's us! Oh, how exciting! Looking forward to seeing you again in March!

I was thinking about registering for the 1/2 marathon in march. I just started the couch to 5k program and am planning on doing a 5K in December. I was looking for some advice with someone with experience... do you think it is possible to be in shape for the 1/2 by then?

:welcome: Tiffany! It is entirely possible to prepare for the Princess half marathon in 5 months! Of course, a lot depends on your present level of activity and your expectations for the half, but if you make a plan and stick to it the rewards are amazing. I will never forget the feeling I had when the volunteer put that first Donald medal around my neck - the sense of accomplishment was priceless.

A lot of us use John Bingham's Marathoning for Mortals (MfM) plan. He's the one with the famous saying (at least on WISH) "The miracle isn't that I finished, the miracle is that I had the courage to start". I was 50 and a confirmed couch potato when I started training for the first time, amazing things are possible - if I could do it so can you!

Please keep us posted on your progress. WISHers are a great group of the most amazingly supportive people you are ever likely to meet and we want to hear about your journey! Also, check out the welcome thread stickied at the top of the page - it has all kinds of helpful information.

OK, a question about the pirates and princess party. Caitsmama could you explain please......

My dh is planning on running the princess marathon and my daugther and myself with do the 5k race. I have four kids alltogether and the younger ones will probably run the kiddie races.

Anyhoo, for my question about the P&P party, if it's a parade and fireworks with all the characters, couldn't all the other people at MK see it too for free? Why do we have to pay for the party?

Thanks for any experienced answers.

Oh, I haven't registered my dh yet, but we will soon. We'll be staying at the Shades of Green.

Hey everybody! I am usually over on the camping boards. I just bought running shoes and I have walked for 2 days in a row. I must be crazy but I am thinking about doing the 1/2. I was a runner YEARS ago, but I have not had any activity since 1992. I have recently lost 20 pounds and am doing this for my health mostly. I think a trip to Disney is the only thing that could motivate me do to something so not me! So, have any of you gone from seditary to 1/2 in this short period of time? When I ran it was competitive and honestly I hated it. I think that is why as soon as I graduated I never put on racing flats again. This time it is for me not a coach. I don't care about time or records just that I don't become diabetic. any advise?:confused3

Never mind with my question of the pirate and princess party/parade. I figured it out.

Who knows when the P&Pparade will be on? What date?

We'd like to go!!!

Hey hey, when you get chance please could you add me to the 1/2 list? Not sure where we're staying yet- who knows we might win the lottery tonight!!!
Thanks

I feel the same way, as Key Lime.

I am a nutritionist and former fitness instructor and body builder. If you looked at me now, you would never be able to guess that.

A few years ago, I had to take fertility drugs to conceive my children. I have two beautiful boys to show for it, but my one major side effect was weight gain. 57 pounds before conception..... Six weeks after I gave birth I was able to lose all the baby weight, plus 20, which would have had me under weight if I had been at my usual weight, but I was not. Since then, the extra weight has not come off and I'm now under a Dr.'s care for hormonal and digestive issues.

Long story short (too late, right), I have been pretty sedentary and I am using the Princess Half as motivation to help me get on the path of health and hopefully, something of my figure again.

I have this book called The Non-Runner's Marathon Trainer which trains people to do a FULL marathon in 4 months. I figure with just over 5 months, and alot of power-walking, I will be able to do a Half marathon!

Maybe KeyLime and I can start a support group for the ultimate newbies! That's why I love these boards. I feel like many of us (of a certain age) can be supportive to those with experience and those who are starting on this new path for the first time.:hippie:

2boysmom - Love, Love, Love the non runner's marathon trainer!!! It was my training plan for my Disney Marathon. Can't say enough good things about it. Are you going to train as if you were doing a marathon or are you going to half the milage?

I can't decide on a training plan, and if I choose a 20 week, I should already have started ( I think???) Any way today's idea is to choose a 16 week marathon training plan, and just do the County Music Marathon in late April. I can put the plan on hold for 2 weeks for the taper and Princess 1/2 and recovery week. :confused3 who knows, I may have a new idea tomorrow. In any rate - DS2 MUST get potty trained - I need to get to the gym!

Welcome all! Yes, KeyLime and Tiffany--you can do this! We have 5 months to prepare...and the marathon books seem to indicate that is adequate. I've read both the Non Runner's Guide--do you guys mean the one by Dawn Dais? and Marathoning for Mortals. They were both great resources, and the first was quite amusing as well.

My son (16) and I did a local 5K last night. I am a walker, and like to come in under 45 minutes for a 5K. Last night I was hoping for about 40 minutes. Well, my son wanted to do a bit more running than I had in mind and we came in at 36:27:32!

Hope I can keep that up for an additional 10 MILES!!!

2boysmom- We will be at WDW the same time, where are you staying? We will be at the Fort. In fact there are a lot of us doing a scavenger hunt for the kids you are more than welcome to come! How old are your boys? We are doing MNNSHP on Sun night and I think that the hunt is earlier that day.
I saw on Disneyrunning a trail from the Fort to Wilderness lodge I may attempt to do that in prep for the Princess!:thumbsup2
Thank you all for the encouragement! I have not registered yet. I will do the 5K or the 1/2 itdepends on my confidence. I know I can walk a 1/2 but I would not want to be scopped up by a sweeper:scared:

Hey Christine - this is the book I used. http://www.amazon.com/Non-Runners-M...bs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1223236600&sr=8-1 I highly recommend reading it, even if you use a different plan for the training. Each week is broken down into a running workout, and a mental workout. It offers suggestions for how to make though a marathon. The cut off for the Disney marathon is 7 hours - and there are a lot of people who just make that cut off. 7 hours is a LOONNGGG time to be walking/running. You need to practice the mental aspect of doing a sport for 7 hours at a time.

I'll have to check out the book by Dawn Dias. I love reading marathon books.

Hey KeyLime (I always want to say Yum, yum after I type that). As you can see by my signature, we often stay at the Fort. This time we will be staying at Coronado Springs. We plan on arriving early-ish Friday and go to the MNSSHP on Friday night, and do the pool and try to take it easy on Saturday. I would love to do a scavenger hunt on Sunday and meet y'all. My twins are 4 and a half. The boys and I are leaving late-ish on Sunday, Dad has to stay in town for a conference. This is sort-of an impromptu trip for us that we threw in before my DH's conference. I am SO excited about going to the Party!:hmghost:

Now, to bring it back on topic, maybe we can meet and do a powerwalk together on the trails that you mentioned. PM me and let me know if you are interested! Also, on topic. Even in my not-YET fit state, I plan on doing the 5k as a family (the boys still fit in the jogging stroller) on Sat. as my "warm up" and do the Half on Sunday. If you are worried about not being able to "run" the whole Half, I truly plan on powerwalking/speedwalking most of the marathon. There may be bouts of jogging here and there, but I am a buxom lass, and running with large ta-ta's doesn't usually go together. So consider me a Power Walker!! Grrr....

Wow, i don't honestly think i will EVER be at a place where i am thinking of doing a full marathon, LOL Even now, i think i am nuts for attempting a 1/2.. I just wonder most days what the heck i am getting myself into!

On the up side, I GOT MY NEW TREADMILL!!! It's a nordic trac, and it is fancy! LOL way better than my old one! It has all that new ifit technology, but i didn't buy any of those cards.. also has 12 preset workouts in it, and i can adjust the incline, which i could never do on my old TM.
Can't wait to use it, hoping i can get on later tonight, but depends what time dh gets back in from work.. i am getting tired.

Just got back from my walk tonight. I went with DD and she slowed me down a bit but it was nice talking with her... until she got a blister. Then my walk turned into a run so I could get the car to pick her up. Ladies, I can only imagine what the neighbors were thinkin! I think I ran the equavlient of 1/4 mile. Tommorrow I will wak in the AM and try the running again but S-L-O-W-E-R!
On a side note, I went to sports authority to get a waterbottle belt (and they had no idea what I was talking about) and I found a little gem! It is called a Frogg Togg chill pad. It is a cross between a swimmer towel and chamios. You wet it and it stays cool. One side is to absorb sweat and the other is to cool. It worked great! It was $13 and you can wash it. Came in handy tonight after my trip to get my little darlin!
Thank you for the ref. to the books. I like the one by Dawn as I am scarstic myself. I will get both. If nothing else I can impress our company with a good coffee table read:thumbsup2
2Boysmom one of the families coming to the Fort has quads and one single, I bet they would get a kick out of seeing twins! I will PM you tommorrow.
:cheer2: Ladies, one more day is done and I hope you all had a WIN to add to your tally! What is your goal for the week? You have to put it out there so we can hold each other accountable! Mine is to walk every day for 30 min with the 90 seconds of jogging at least 3 time this week. I also want to get back on track with the diet.

OK, I am going to come out of lurkdom on this thread. You can put me down on the list for the Princess 5K and 1/2. I am doing my first 1/2 ever on Thanksgiving weekend, and then the Disney 1/2 in January. AND the week before the princess I'll be doing a local 1/2 ! I must be crazy. :scared1: :scared1:

I have no idea of where we will be staying yet.
