I have a little secret I'd like to share...

I have signed up for the Princess 5K! I am not a runner. Actually, I hate it. I have been on the tredmill for two weeks now and I'm beginning to enjoy it. I have not told a sole I am doing this. Not even my husband. I am hoping my sister will run with me but I have not asked her yet. I'd love to do the 1/2 but since this will be my first race, I don't want to put too much pressure on myself and enjoy it. There is always next year for the 1/2, right?

I am so glad I found this thread since I felt alone in my training. I'll be checking in often!

BTW, I don't know what hotel we will be staying at but will post once I know. I will be traveling with my mom and 3 children so I will have lots of questions about family members who want to cheer you on. I'd like to get my kids involved in the kiddie races--they sound like fun!

Best wishes and happy training to all!

Blakely

Welcome Blakely. There are many of us in the same boat as you. I run a 5K every year possible. That is all I've done in at least 15 years. I just got started on the C25K program. I know we can do this if we support each other.

Thanks Pat! I will check out the website. My goal right now is 13.1 miles in 13.1 states (13 states plus D.C.). I've been running for about 2 years so I have only run 1/2's in 3 states but plan to run in 2-3 different states next year.

Hello to all the new folks! I've been rehabbing my wrist lately and so have been staying off the computer lately, but it's getting much better. I can't believe how excited that makes me. LOL I'm not sure what that says about my lifestyle, but anyway..... This past week I did my first full week of C25K. I printed the schedule off and taped it next to my treadmill. Full steam ahead!

Welcome to the new racers!! I will update later with info - haven't been on much, we had massive water damage to a couple rooms in my house b/c of a rainstorm last week, and i have several commerical dryers and stuff set up here - so my house is kinda a disaster right now.. LOL But, hopefully insurance will come thru and all will be well soon..

On top of that, i think my TM is dead -- it's cracked under where the belt is -- and i can't afford a new one, so i guess i will have to figure out when to start going outside to train - which is NOT my fav - due to all our hills.. Plus i am self concious, and like my TM.

I am also not sure what to do about a training schedule - i don't really want to do the C25K again, but i guess i could.. the Mara. For Mortals book has the 14 week plan, and then i thought about extending that to a 28 week plan, by repeating every week twice.. but i just don't know.. i need direction!!! I have put back on my 5lbs - and i still want to lose another 30 or so -- so i am not happy!! LOL

I just don't know how to train for this - other than that 14 week plan.. but what do i do now?! It's driving me nuts! Should i start that C25k again, and then do that 14 week plan, or should i turn the 14 weeks into 28 and do each wk. twice?

And now, i gotta figure out when i can go outdoors, dh leaves by 6am for work (and i am NOT an early morning runner without my coffee) and i don't know that i will be up to running later at night when it's cooler (like 8pm) that just seems late -
Ugh.. i miss my TM already.. i may have to look thru the paper and see if anyone sells a used one... :(

First off, so sorry to hear about your water damage. My finished basement had 21 inches of water back in 1996 and I still remember how much work it was to make everything right!

And bummer about the TM. I train almost exclusively on mine and I love it. It is always either too hot, too cold, too humid, too buggy, too dark, or something else for me to be outside. I guess I'm kind of a wimp!! I love the convenience of my TM. I hope you can work something out.

Finally, about training - I can only tell you what worked for me. I went from couch potato (Jan 2005) to successfully completing my first HALF marathon (Jan 2006) and began by "training to train". Initially I started with walking on the TM three times a week for 30 minutes, not concerned about pace, just about time and establishing the habit of walking regularly. I gradually increased that and at the 14 week mark used the MfM training schedule. It worked!

Hang in there!!

Hello folks! I am now officially on board! YEA!!! I am very excited as this will be my first race above 10K. :scared: I am using the training plan in Marathoning for Mortals. I love, love, love this book! I actually get teary reading the little notes from other runners. :lovestruc It gives me hope that I can do this. I will be running with one of my best friends (who is a marathoner) and hopefully our other cohort in crime. (Another marathoner) Still trying to talk her into it. But you know us Disney Nuts, no one can resist forever! I look forward to spending the next 8 months getting to know everyone.

Poor you! And here I am crying about my house being a wreck because we've moved and everything is everywhere! I have to clean a mound of cr* *ahm* stuff off my TM everytime I want to use it. BUT you totally win. Water damage is terrible.

I was torn between which way to do the program, too. I also thought about doubling the Mara. for Mortals plan. I wound up picking Couch Potato one first and then I'l finish that and move on to the Marathon plan. I decided that way because it had been six weeks or more since the last time I had done anything athletic and I didn't want to hurt myself. Good luck with yor choice. Beat that five pounds back and show it whose boss! :goodvibes

As for the TM, I couldn't train without one. It was 107 here yesterday, and I swear it felt like it was 90 when I left for work at seven. EEWWW! I've got the secret for you on replacing your TM. Listen close because I'm going to whisper it, I don't want it to get out, it's called the Sears One Year No Interest Plan. ;) I buy everything that way and it really works for me. I figure out how much I would have to pay each month to be paid off by the end, set it up automatic with my bank, and BAM! new treadmill. I had to replace mine last year. I really liked my old one too. This one is nice, but I liked my old one. I had to get a Noditrack (sp?) this time, which is way more. Why? You'll love this one. I went to Sears and bought my new TM and it was exactly like my old TM. I was very happy. Same make and model same display. GREAT! But now I have an old house with old wires and apparently even though the old TM didn't care, the new TM didn't like my mini power surges. It didn't even like it on the power strip I got for it. Nope. It died in two weeks. The guy told me the cheaper ones are more sensitive to power variations than the more expensive ones. Does that sound like BS or what?? But what do I know, right? So exchanged the dead one for the Noditrack and now we're training together for the 1/2.

That was a needlessly long story to tell you get over to Sears the next time TM are on sale. Or if you're really tough and can wait until Christmastime, they always start having pretty good sales on them then. I'm afraid if you want until Jan when the sales are really, really good, you'll have waited too late for your training.

Good luck!!

Thanks guys!! The men came over and got the dryers/fans/dehumidifiers out yesterday - so i was able to sleep in my own bed, which felt great... Now we are just playing the middleman b/w the contractor and the insurance.. LOL And low and behold, they are calling for thunderstorms tomorrow.. ugh..

Anyway, I decided i am going to do the double MTM plan, which will make the 14 week plan into 28 weeks, which is exactly 7 months (Aug-end of Feb) which will bring us right up to the race...
Now, i am still figuring out the training thing.. TM or no TM.. Aug. 1 is coming!! (And so is my Disney cruise!!!)

Thanks for the welcome! Sorry about your water damage. We are dealing with water damage in a room we just a year ago sheet rocked and painted for my 3yo daughter. We need a new roof but her room is ruined. Bummer for us both.

Blake, i see you will be in WDW for TG too! We will be staying at the BC for the holiday!

Bumping up! Happy August! How is everyone doing?

I'm doing pretty good. I've completed the first two weeks of C25K without missing a day. I'm very happy about that. It was a bit of a struggle for Mon and Wed, but by Fri I was going pretty strong.

What minute mile do we need to be going to not get swept?? I want to make sure I train in a little cusion for a potty break or emergancy or whatever.

Does anyone know what makes a stich in your side?? I really hate that! Ouch! I didn't stop though, just slowed down a bit. I was proud of that.

How are YOU doing?? How's the dead TM?

Also, we're staying at CB. I'm excited because we've never stayed there before. I want to stay at all the resorts. Is that wierd? I think it might be.

And so I fell for the first time on my TM yesterday. Nothing hurt but my pride really. I was worried about my foot, but it was just mad and has now gotten better. *ugh* I guess when you're running your attention really can't wander to the backyard you see out the window. Okay. Noted. Try not to do that again.

How's everyone else!!!!!!!!

Lauren!! Glad to hear you are not hurt. I have fallen before and got a pretty bad mat burn on my knee. :headache: Thank goodness I was at home and not at the gym with 90 other people!

So far so good here with the exception of my ankle still being swollen. I was almost hit by a car last week and I tweeked it trying to jump out of the way. Guess that is what happens when you are running at 6am and you live in a neigborhood with a bunch of self absorbed idiots! :mad:The guy even yelled at me to get off the road! :sad2: Next time I am throwing a rock at his pretty little Beamer. Sorry- tangent over. Thought it was better but today not feeling so hot! I have it propped up on a paper box right now with an ice pack on it. Good thing I have my own office!

DisneyDuet: My goodness! Almost run over by a car trumps falling on the TM! What a jerk! I'm so glad you weren't really, really injured, just kinda injured. My parents actually live in a neighborhood of the self-absorbed, too. It's really scary because there are so many kids around in the streets, and these people just fly through there. When the neighborhood was built, it was even built with smaller streets with the idea that it would make people slow down, but it didn't. There's one woman in particular now, a BMW driver, too, as it happens. My dad keeps threatenig to go down and slash her tires in the night.

Take care of that ankle! I'm glad it's on the mend. When you're better, let me know if we need to go find that guy and slash his tires. Not that I would ever advocate vandalism. You know, it's really more of a public service, if you think about it. :rotfl2:

Wow!! ((Hugs)) to both of you guys!! Take care of yourself!

Lauren, i am proud of you finishing up week 2! Great job!!

I am thinking i may start the C25K plan again - just to give me a boost - here is what my week in review (activity wise) was like:
Monday, went on TM to see if it was *really* dead - squeaked in a mile of a walk/run combo - yes, found out it REALLY is dead, now anyway.. LOL
Tuesday, 90 min. yoga class - really stretched my legs!
Weds., Rest day
Today, 3 mile walk (i really have to get faster in my walking.. i am just not a fast walker, and i really don't enjoy it as much as a run/walk combo - but i felt like i just wanted a good brisk longer walk tonight..)
I ended up doing 3 miles in 54 min. - to me, i feel that is terrible! I would get swept if i were in the race!
But, when i do my walk/run combo, i usally average a 14-15 min. mile..

Lauren, to answer your question, we have to constantly have a minimum of a 16 min per mile pace.

I was going to stretch the MFM plan out to a 28 week plan, but i think i just may do the C25K plan first - at least i know i can do that, and it will build up my running speed - i hope..
Then, i can concentrate on building my walking speed..

I don't know if i mentioned it before, but i am planning on following the MFM 14 week plan for Walk/Run (it gives you a plan of walking 3 min, then running 1 min. consistantly for the duration of the race) even though, i feel i could run more, i really want this race to be enjoyable, and fun... and i am not putting any time pressure on myself - except to finish. :) I plan on having a blast in the back of the pack! ;)

Everyone see my ticker!! It's getting close!!!

Hi,

I've been lurking on this particular thread since I am about 95% sure I am going to do this race!

Caitsmama I am doing C25K to fill up the time before I start training for the 1/2 in January ( I like to call it training to train!). I never totally followed through C25K the first time around, so I really want to finish this time. It is going really really well, even though I slacked off for a bit after the Minnie 5k/15K. I did do a sub 40 5K in July! I start week 5 next week. Anyhow, just my 2 cents on why I think it's a good idea. I will probably be doing more walking than running for the princess 1/2 since I'll will hopefully have run alot of the 1/2 in January. Must have the tiara medal!! Also, I am following MfM R:W plan for the 1/2 in January.

Happy Training Everyone!:cheer2: :cheer2:

Blake, i see you will be in WDW for TG too! We will be staying at the BC for the holiday!

Yes, we are so excited! Almost at double digits!!

I have a quick question....For the 5K, it says we need to pick up our packet the day before. I don't think my DBIL will get in until the evening. Can I pick up his packet? I think I read someplace that there will be no packet pick up the morning of the 5K. Hope I'm wrong.

We will be staying at BCV.
