My DS15 and I are considering a mother/son trip this June. We'd fly SWA to Jacksonville, FL and get the one way rental car deal. We'll have 6 days to make our way up to our departure in Baltimore.

We'd like to try the hang gliding off the sand dunes near Kitty Hawk, and I'm looking for other adventures for us.

We'd love some suggestions. I'd like to spend the last day at the Smithsonian in DC, but otherwise we're open.

Thanks!

If he's into amusement parks, I'd do either a day at Busch Gardens or King Dominion. Haven't been to Busch Gardens since I was a kid, but the park is supposedly beautiful, but I believe Kings Dominion has more extreme rides (i.e. Roller Coasters).

One day might not be enough for the museums and/or the monuments.

The museums are free, but your lunch will be a little pricey.

I would try 2 days to tour the mall area.

There is also a water park near Williamsburg in addition to the 2 other parks mentioned.

Busch Gardens is beautiful but it's alot of walking. Kings Dominion also has a huge waterpark included so if you bring or wear your bathing suit, you can have two parks in one. I second that you will need at least two days in Washington D.C. You might want to start reading up on the interstates around DC., it can be confusing. If your ds is really into the transformers, check out the Air and Space museum at Dulles airport, they have the Blackbird that transformed into JetFire from the movie. Contact your senator to see if you can get tickets to anything from their office.

There is an international arts festival (theatre, dance, music, visual) that goes on in Charleston during May/June.

Here are links. Of course, we always have great historical tours (downtown, Ft. Sumter and plantations), beautiful beaches (Isle of Palms, Sullivan's Island, Folly Beach, Kiawah Island), and fabulous restaurants -- Everywhere.

The link below is for the festival that goes on at the same time. These are all the American artists and the tickets are usually more affordable and there are also free events for this festival.

ETA: If it's adventure you're looking for, take a surfing lesson or kite surfing lesson at any of the beaches.
