DBF and I are cruising in May and I am wondering a bit about the menus. I looked at sample menus earlier in DCL's website and I got a bit concerned because my DBF is a very simple (picky) person when it comes to eating...he doesn't like fish or anything that is too fancy (I on the other hand can not wait to try all the yummy options!) he is really just a meat and potatoes kind of guy. Will he survive on the ship? Will they prepare a simple type meal for him????

Thanks for your help!!!

He will survive, and be thrilled at that. They will find what he likes, and serve him that, and plenty of it....I am soo darn fussy, that I do not eat any type of potato other than french fries, and after day 1, they knew this and were lovely with it.... Oh, I also do not eat vegetable, meat, fish...and many many more..

Just enjoy, and you will EAT EAT EAT :goodvibes

I am a meat & potatoes girl. I don't like seafood and I am very very picky!!
I survived. I ordered off the lighter fare menu some nights and got a grilled sirloin and baked potato. They do have pork tenderloin (or they did have) on the "grown up" menu. I just don't like fancy foods & I don't like trying new things. Tell him to look on the bright side, he won't gain much weight!!

I'm the meat and potatoes person and DH loves everything. We had a great time.

They have simple fair (steak, chicken, fish) every night. Or if you see something you like but you want to mix it up a big ask your server - they are more than happy to if they can. For example if you want a certain item without the sauce or with the the sauce on the side. Of if it comes with a potatoe you don't want ask them to substitute a baked potatoe and they will be happy to.

They are there to make you happy and will do their best.

I do like most seafood but found myself ordering the steaks on the menu at least two nights in the dinning room. The filet in Palo melts in your mouth at dinner & the tenderloin at brunch is amazing as well. You should find enough to keep you happy. :)

Get a reservations at Palos for a great meat and potatoes dinner. Best steaks on the cruise!

I don't like any fish or seafood and I did just fine... and you can customize your meal by switching sides, etc. I pretty much ended up eating beef of some nature every night - my SIL and I joked that we probably ate a side of beef by the end of the cruise.
Then again, for me, the entrees take a back seat to my FAVORITE food group - DESSERT! Our servers were wonderful and brought us multiple desserts each night, just so we could "try" each one.

I'll second that! I'm the SIL and I saw her eat half a cow in one week. I ate the other half! Then we washed it down with chocoate souffles, strawberry shortcakes, creme brulee and whole lot of other goodies!

Hmmmmm...is there ANYTHING you DO eat?!?!?! :rotfl2: :rotfl: :rotfl2:
I guess that would leave bread...and fruit. And then of course french fries!

No, really...I actually admire your taste in food...maybe I could lose some weight if I were a little pickier about food!! :rotfl:

My DH is also a picky eater. Nothing fancy at all. He's not a big sauce or cheese fan either. Most of the menus sound to fancy for him and he has express concerns that he wont have lots of choices.
How are the steaks cooked?

Even if you (or someone you love) is a pickey eater - the cruise is a great place to try new things that you would NEVER order at home (cost to much, to hard to make yourself, etc). First trying new / different food "risk free" is great, because if you don't like it, you can always get a replacement "meat and potatoes" meal.

One night my "picky " husband ordered a seafood stew--
he hated it but was going to be polite and tolerate it

the servers quickly siad you don't look like you like it
and offered to replace it with a steak
He was so much happier !

So it is a place you can try new things and if you don't like it order the standards!

The simple meals are listed on the menu every night. He can have a steak and potato every night if he wants to..no problem at all, it is on the menu. He can also eat at the fast food places and skip the dining room altogether. The food is not fancy, it may sound that way, but it isn't.

I am a "meat and potato" guy also....but I like seafood. When I couldn't chose between the two the server just said "just get both". And so I did.... If I remember correctly from our last 4 sailings.

My hubbie too is a meat and potatoe guy as well  but I am hoping that he might try some new thing's as I believe the waiters will change anything if he dosen't like it
Look forward to counting down

The couple seated with us on the honeymoon last year were very similar. She was a little more daring, he wasn't. But the staff was falling over backwards to get him what he wanted. He had a huge steak and a ginormous baked pertater at least twice, and was a happy little monkey.

My guess is that the staff has seen and heard it all, so if the maple-glazed yak liver stew with crushed walnuts and a side of pan-seared chicken lips doesn't strike your fancy, just say 'steak', and they'll run one out to you.

...mmmmm....chicken lips....

I am married to the pickiest eater on the planet........only hamburgers, steak, french fries and a few raw fruits and vegis. No cheese, no sauces, not even ketchup!!!

This was never a problem.... he order a well done steak every night with fries and after the second night they did not have to ask a second time. He made sure that the wait staff knew he was responsible for the tipping on our table of 11 and they never tried to talk him into anything more adventurous!

I on the other hand am a "foodie" and while I think the food on the cruise is just O.K..............none of us went hungry! I think we even come home with a few more pounds than we left with.
