The Tower Room in SL is by request only. You can't pay more for it (unfortunately) to guarantee it. There are only 3 of them in SL to begin with. There is just one flat rate in SL Concierge for both the standard and Tower Rooms.

From what KerriL reported, the concierge staff didn't know about the bedding in that room, nor did they know that it had a balcony. I would let Heather in IPO know that a recent guest is reporting that the room in deed did hold 5 people and if she could please verify it with housekeeping. Triplefigs, I know that you mentioned your medical needs in the e-mail to them and you could ask Heather too if it would be better to have special services review your request for this guaranteed room. I'd give it one more shot before giving up on it.

Tonyspad, as others have mentioned, the tower lodge room in SL is by request only. You may want to e-mail IPO and ask them how this request works, especially when there are so few available in that building. Some things on your reservation, you do need to go through your travel agent, but when you have concierge booked, you can deal with the pre-planning staff directly. Ask them if they block the room for you, or if it's simply treated as a request. After speaking with them, you can make up your mind as to whether or not to cancel concierge service. It sounds like the room is your first priority for this particular trip.

Tammi,

I just emailed GF IPO again and asked for them to ask Housekeeping to verify this in person. I mentioned the medical equipment and Special Medical Reservations. ETA: I just got confirmation they read the email. Now the waiting begins!

We'll see what they say.

Well, unless they removed the sofa bed my son used in April...there is no way that the CMs in IPO know what they are talking about. :confused3
The concierge planning office is different from the actual Concierge cast members at the desk...if they didn't know that room 6320 had a balcony..it is entirely possible that IPO don't know that the room has a sleep sofa.
The sofa bed was a little ratty looking..I guess it is possible that it was removed. But it was there April 13-17 2005!!! :flower:
Good luck!!

This is the response I got from IPO just now. Gives me a chance, at least!

I apologize for the miscommunication before. I have checked with a housekeeping manager and they do have regular sofa's in those rooms however you can request that they change it out to the sleeper sofa. I have put that request on your reservation for you but it is a request and we can not guaranteed that you will get one of the tower rooms, but I did add it to your reservation. If you have any other questions please feel free to call or email us.

Thank you

And I have two more questions:

  1. The other 2 Tower Rooms have no balcony, correct? Would I be better off in the Sugar Loaf Tower Room period ~even if it has no balcony~ (in case I can't get 6320), or with a standard room with balcony in Sugar Loaf? They are specifically requesting room 6320 for me.
  2. Should I just leave the request with IPO, or should I also call and request it through Special Medical Reservations?
Thanks!

I would keep your request as is (tower lodge w/sleeper sofa) and see if you get the balcony when you check in. You can always change your mind at that point and go into a regular SugarLoaf room with balcony.

Personally, I do like balconies, but we stayed in a GF room last year that didn't have one. At first, I was disappointed, but having all the extra space more than made up for it.

Thanks. So should I also call Special Medical Reservations, or just leave it with IPO? I don't want to confuse the issue and have SMR mess it up!

Yup, I'd just leave it as is. I'm glad to hear that she was able to verify the information with housekeeping. If you did end up going through SMR, then whatever room they gave you, it would be locked. At least this gives you some options at check-in. I think regardless of the balcony, all the other extras in that style of room will be nice.

triplefigs,
2nd and 3rd floor in SL have balconies. 4th floor does not have one. And there is no tower room on 1st floor, it is a service area.
Interesting info about the sleep sofa. I am assuming that because we were 5 in the room, they put the sleep sofa in there?? Sounds like a lot of work on their part instead of just having the sleeper in there all the time. Very strange! :confused3
Kerri

Tammi,

I agree. I'm just going to leave it with IPO.

KerriL,

Thanks for the tips on 2nd and 3rd floor. I agree about it being a lot of work. they should just leave it in there! And do you have any photos of the Tower Room?

Thanks again for the heads up!

triplefigs,
Yes, I did take some photos of the Tower, both inside and out. Unfortunately, my computer is so old and I have dial-up...it takes forever to upload them to a site to share them. I will take the CD to work and try it from there.

Thank you, Kerri! I'll pm you my email if that would be easier.
