Calling all germophobes re: coffee makers

just to clarify my original post... like someone else posted - coffee pots in bathrooms???? this is what got me originally thinking about this in the first place. I didn't mean the coffee carafe, i meant where you put the water to make the coffee (i do already clean out the carafe).

And I didn't start this thread to upset anyone (sorry to anyone who now has another cleaning job on vacation). and i also put 'germophobes' in my title so anyone who didn't want to read this would know what it was sort of about.

and i didn't realize how woman's bathrooms are really worse than men's, but now that the couple of people say that and in thinking about it, i can totally see it. but i meant that a man could possibly be standing at the toilet peeing and aim at the coffee maker just to be... i don't know... silly... whatever. know what i mean?

again, i don't think i would have ever thought of this if they didn't put coffee makers in bathrooms. i would have just cleaned the carafe and not thought anymore of it.

i also used to know a couple of guys (in high school) that would have definitely done something like that - maybe that's why i thought of it too.

I actually bring a small coffee pot whenever I travel. (Okay, perhaps my username should have been Neurotic-in-NY.)

I think it's funny that someone brought this up. I too always clean out the coffee pot/maker and wash the glasses/cups. I can't help myself. Now not to start another riot but I recently read something about being careful about using the coffee makers in hotels because people use them to make methamphetamine (crytal meth) and you could get very sick using a contaminated maker. Of course I doubt that anyone is working a meth lab in their room at WDW but just thought I'd share that interesting tidbit.

I am even happier now that I know we are using our own coffee maker because we will be at Fort Wilderness... camping!

I think I am evolving into a germaphobe and trying really hard not to be!

I work for the Fed Govt...and am appalled by the way other females leave the bathroom...however....I've taken my 7-eleven coffee cup and disposed of it in the garbage in the ladies room, along with my yogurt container...we have had problems with mice in our building, they clean out the bathrooms and the waste baskets within several times a day....my garbage at my desk is only picked up once a day. But this thread is getti ng way out of hand...and I'm attributing to it...so with that be said...enough of the gross stuff...wash out your coffee pot upon arrival, have a cup of coffee, take a chill pill....and have a wonderfully magical vacation!

don't worry your post was fine. i always figure since nobody is ordered to read any thread if they aren't interested they can mtob. personally i am tired of the thread police who feel they can decide who can post what and when there are too many threads about a certain subject...silly me, i thought that was what moderators were for

i hadn't thought of this before so imo it's not a bad warning and do know when you flush if the lid's up what's in the bowl ends up in the air so forethought isn't a bad thing... although from what i remember the coffe pots in wdw are not in the toilet room.

They usually put the coffee pot in the bathroom because there is less to burn if someone leaves the burner on without coffee in the pot. If you put it on the desk top or dresser top, you usually have a combustible wood surface. Plus people put so many items on the table or dresser top, they can accidently push the on button and not notice it is turned on.

Ew.. I'm just thinking about the coffee pot being in the bathroom and everytime you flush the toilet germs/tiny droplets of water are expelled around the room. Gross!

I don't drink coffee, though.

hi that made me laugh loud long and i needed a good laugh after the nights work i had. i reckon working in a hospital gives me and possibly my family immunity

to most things. i just rinse it out with water mainly 'cos we use it for making tea! don't scour the room out either but thats another thread!

I don't really think much about the coffee pot when I first use it, but I do clean it afterwards.

We don't make a whole lot of coffee since we use our refillable mugs. We do take some cider and hot chocolate to have occasionally so the pot does get used.

If I worried about every little thing that "might" have happened with the coffee maker/bedspread/shower etc. you would have to live in a plastic bubble. I say relax and just use some common sense

Coffee pots in the bathroom? Mine at WDW have always been on the vanity area next to the sink.

If you are insane so am I.....If I used it I would wash it first by hand with soap. The I'd run a full pot of water thru it a few times. That should do it!

OMGOODNESS!! YUCK!! I am a germphobe for sure I bring lysol and clean everything before my family touches anything. I have NEVER thought that someone may of pee'd in the coffee pot!! Now I will never use one at a hotel again!! YUCK!!

Wow, how have I managed to live so long???? (as she lies on the hotel bedspread, randomly reaching for objects that haven't been Cloroxed, touching eyes and mouth w/o Purell-ing the heck out of them, drinking a cup of hotel bathroom coffee)

I won't even use the in room coffee makers. I need a cup of strong coffee.
And yes most hotels have them in the bathroom, which is kind of gross.

As far as glasses...we buy disposable cups.

I do use the hotel coffee pots. I bring my own coffee/filters and wash out the pot. I don't worry too much about it, mainly because if I were going to worry about things I would also need to worry about the conditions in the restaurant. And I'll make myself crazy if I get too worked up about that.

Never, Never, Never. Never in a million years, even if it was the last coffee pot on earth. The funny thing is, I don't really think I am a germ freak. I don't worry too much about sitting on the bedspread, or touching the remote because I wash my hands. But the thought of drinking coffee from a pot full of bacteria or god only knows what gives me the willies. I love my morning coffee just as much as the next person, but I bring my own pot from home or DH hoofs it to the food court.

I bring my own sometimes, but mainly because I drink tea and no matter how many times I run the hot water through my tea still has a coffee taste to it. Now I'm glad I don't use it. I was ok with the bedbugs and all the other stuff...but now thinking that some guy might have peed in it.... this is the first hotel thread that has got me feeling yucky!
