eeyore- I think the thing I most look forward to is spending time with Christine!! I have to go to Wal mart to pick up a layaway - aaargh!!!! It will probably be crazy, but I think it will be cool! Of course, it involves a long lunch out and no kids! I can't wait to see the crowds! It will porabably be crazy. I hope your Christmas party is fun! Our department doesn't do anything. I guess they are too big? They don't even give the guys a ham or anything for the holidays. I think they should do a dinner at each station. They could send them steaks - the guys would cook for themselves. I hope you survive Wal Mart without looking like this

slo - how did the shopping go? Jim could never do an all day shopping event! You are lucky that your hubby like to participate! Of course, if Jim participated, then he would want a vote! LOL :rotfl:

Yesterday's shopping day was a total success :Pinkbounc

We got alot bought, and 75% of our shopping is now done :thumbsup2

All that shopping really got me into the Christmas spirit :santa:

So last night when we came home, I put on The Polar Express is super loud surround sound - it was awesome!!!! I love, love, love, that movie, and I love the music from that movie. I think I'm going to order the soundtrack from Amazon today :teeth:

This morning I have to take Stephanie to her school for her Secret Santa Workshop. That's where she can go pick out gifts herself for all of her family members. The gifts are super cheap, and it's always fun to see what she gets us. :goodvibes

Karen - Have fun shopping today :cool1: I hope you will be as successful as we were :wizard:

Kathy - Katie is still not 100% (thanks for asking). She woke up yesterday morning with 101 fever, but the Motrin took it down right away :thumbsup2 Then I took Tylenol to my mom's and her give it to her twice while she was watching her. She is also still so congested :guilty: Luckily though, her spirits are good :) My mom thinks she has some kind of virus - we'll see how the weekend goes
**Good luck with the decorating and the shopping :wizard: Are you dreading WalMart because you don't like WalMart, or because you don't like shopping with this woman?

Well, I gotta run and get ready to go.
Have a good day today everyone!!!

So, you're day isn't about shopping as much as it is just a girls day out. Okay, I could go for that a lot more!! :teeth:

Our department is pretty small so we still do lots of the fun stuff together. The women's auxilliary is doing a meal this year. Last year it was catered. There are only two women (me and one other) actually on the FD so we always do the "womanly" stuff :lmao: like organizing these sorts of things. We're doing gift bags for all the kids....a Walmart card, some pencils, candy canes, a magic Christmas towel and candy. Just a little something for Santa to hand out. And I'm going to make some bags of reindeer food to give all the kids. - And everyone on the department is getting a nice knife this year. Last year we got beautiful jackets! They should last years they're made so well.

We were going to decorate the tree this afternoon but the community center was in use. (Ooops, neither of us had thought to check on that.) So we're meeting down there at 8:30 tonight.

Glad you were able to get so much done!!! I can't imagine Allen going with me for a power shopping trip like you and Kevin do. I'm lucky to get him in a store for about an hour!

So last night when we came home, I put on The Polar Express is super loud surround sound - it was awesome!!!! I love, love, love, that movie, and I love the music from that movie. I think I'm going to order the soundtrack from Amazon today :teeth:

I still haven't even seen the movie. We may have to do that over the holidays this year!

I wish our school did something like that. I can remember when I was in grade school they did something like that and I can still remember what I bought. It was so special to my mom!!!

Kathy - Katie is still not 100% (thanks for asking). She woke up yesterday morning with 101 fever, but the Motrin took it down right away :thumbsup2 Then I took Tylenol to my mom's and her give it to her twice while she was watching her. I sure hope she gets over this soon!

I think I was dreading it for both reasons! I hate going to Walmart on the weekends during the holiday shopping season. I just don't like crowds. And this woman takes at least twice as long to do whatever it is we need to do. And she knows absolutely EVERYONE in this county. She must have run into 20 people in Walmart that she knew and she had to stop and talk (talk, not just say hi!) to every one of them. It just took forever! But we got all the shopping done and I'm glad to have that behind us. Now if we can just get the tree done tonight. Then Tuesday I can decorate the tables in the afternoon. The party is that night.

Yesterday was not a very good day for me :sad2:
On my way out to Stephanie's Santa workshop I backed into Kevin's car with my car :guilty: I dented my back bumper and part of my hatch, and Kevin's car is really bad. The whole passenger door is definitly going to need to be replaced and who knows what else :guilty: I felt so stupid - this is not an expense we need this time of year. We are going to try to pay for this out of pocket unless the total is astronomically to high.

After it happened, Kevin called our town PD over his FD radio to have them come make a Police report in case we use our insurance - I felt so embarrassed  Naturally when he goes on an FD call the guys are going to ask what happened, and also when he goes to work. The FD Christmas party is this Friday - I can guarantee I'm going to be asked about it or teased about it  Oh well - it was just an accident right?!

Last night I watched The DaVinci Code, and I'm indifferent about it. I think I need to see it again to make a decision on if I like it or not. It was very interesting and there was so much information in it, that I know I missed something. It makes you wonder how true the information was - if you've seen it, what do you think???

Karen - How was shopping yesterday? Were you successful in gettting alot of thinks bought??? :)

Kathy - Your Wal-Mart shopping trip sounds like a drag. Good luck with getting the rest of the stuff done for the party :wizard:
**You've got to watch The Polar Express - it's one of my favorite movies of all time. I naturally don't believe in Santa, but I believe in the spirit of Santa, and this movie just gives me chills.

Well, I gotta run and make some breakfast.
Have a good day today

Oh slo!!! If the guys are anything like the firefighters here - you are SO going to get teased!! Just laugh it off - these things happen!

The shopping trip went well. We got alot done and spent some quality time together. It is amzing how quickly all the money spends!

Our football team party is today at Pump It Up - a giant indoor play area with spacewalks, obstacle courses, etc... It should be pretty fun.

eeyore - Good luck on all the "womanly stuff" :rotfl: I thought that was cute! I am glad you survived the Wal Mart trip. Christine & I only had one incident like that - she ran into a coworker and they chatted for a bit, so I people watched! I hate not fitting in to a conversation and just standing there :rolleyes1

Hi all - I'm just popping in for a quick hello :wave2:

Karen - I know I will get teased, I just know it  I have to come up with some good things to say at the Christmas party on Friday so I am well prepared
**I'm glad you had a good shopping day with your friend. I wish I could do that, but my friend lives 1 1/2 hours away :guilty: So are you done with your shopping, or do you still have stuff to get?

Hello everyone!

slo - So sorry about your accident. Prepare yourself, though, 'cause that is going to be one unending joke! :rotfl: Oh well, those things happen.

Karen - glad you had some good quality time with your friend. I just realized that Christmas is only 3 weeks away! :faint: I have not bought a thing yet!

Well, I want to share some good news. Sorry if this post gets long -

Part 1 - After 21 years of working part-time DH and I finally decided it was time for me to go back to working full-time. We really need the money, I've been working at least 40 hours between two jobs for about six months anway and it has worked with the boys so we just decided it was time. Where I work you have to request to go full-time and wait. And it usually takes 3-6 months for them to do anything about it. Well, I asked back on the 10th of November which was a Friday. When I walked in on Monday, the 13th, the manager had all my paperwork ready. He said he had been waiting long enough for me to go full-time and he wasn't going to take a chance of me changing my mind! Then, the day after Thanksgiving I found out that he didn't just put me in for full-time he put me in for a promotion as well. I am now a full-time Customer Service Manager and I'm really happy about it! It is a key carrying position but right now I don't want the extra responsibility of having store keys and they have enough coverage with the regular store managers so it's not an issue.

Part 2 - I WON A CRUISE! A guy that comes into our store regularly was opening a new hair salon about two weeks ago. So I went by to get my hair trimmed on opening day. And everyone that got a haircut that day was entered into a drawing for lots of prizes. And I won the grand prize - a three night cruise for two to the bahamas on Carnival.

And Part 3 - (I saved the best for last!) - I have been very stressed since the elections on November 7th. The elections had a big impact on our family. The sheriff (who DH worked for) was not re-elected. It was an unbelievably close finish, only 98 votes seperated the winner and the loser. So then we had to wait for all the provisional ballots to be counted and certified and that took until the 17th. Then a recount was requested and we didn't get the results of that until 5:00 the night before Thanksgiving! No one ever thought our then-sheriff would lose but he did! Which means that everyone had to reapply for their jobs. Because of all the delays it's been super stressful because the new sheriff could not interview anyone or even take applications until the whole voting process was over. It's been a waiting game since the election not knowing if DH was going to have a job or not!

Announcements were made at 5:00 p.m Friday night as to who was being kept on and who wasn't and DH STILL HAS A JOB!

The new sheriff, however, is doing some restructuring. Instead of having a major as second in command he is going to have four captains that will each have their own section and then together those four will share the rank of second in command. There is a Patrol Captain, an Investigations Captain, an Administration Captain and a Captain of Narcotics and Special Investigations. DH has been promoted to Captain of Narcotics and Special Investigations! He will be sworn in at 9 this morning! (The new sheriff has to swear everyone in.) DH is soooooo excited about this! He's waited a long time to move up like this. And he is thrilled with the other three captains. They've all known each other for many years, they all respect each other and they all get along great together.

Sorry if my post is long but I wanted to share all my good news with you guys!

I have to leave super early this morning for work, because I have to stop at the body shop beforehand to get an estimate - wish me luck!!!! :wizard:

Kathy - I am so happy for you!!!!

All this news is so awesome!!!! :cheer2:

Congrats with the new position at work :cheer2: - I bet you feel so flattered :goodvibes

Congrats with winning the cruise :cheer2: - I love cruises :sail: . You and your DH are going to love it. When do you go???

Finally, congrats to your DH :cheer2: - I've been waiting to hear the news about what is happening. I was going to PM you soon if I didn't hear on here. That is such great news about his job - I'm so happy for both of you :goodvibes

December is really starting off super awesome of you - that's just great!!!! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

Well, I gotta run and get ready for work - have a good day today everyone!!

Kathy - Woohoo!!!!!! :dance3: All of your news is FANTASTIC!

Sandy - I'm not done with the shopping yet - I just ran out of money! :rotfl: I'll finish up after next payday. Jim has now worked 96 hours straight. He will be off for 12 today and then back tonight. He is pushing the OT this week before payday to cover the last of the Christmas shopping. I know we need the $$$, but we all miss him. He has a vacation before Christmas so he will jave some time to spend at home.

Have a great day everyone!!!

I'm off to the frame shop again today. We have alot of work to do, so I offered to come in today instead of going to the Real Estate office.

Well......we got the estimates.
*My car is $1233.45
*Kevin's car is anywhere between $1600 - $2200. They aren't sure of his final price yet until they take the door off. Either way, I'm pleased with this price because I was expecting it to be so much more.
*The rental car is $35 a day and he is going to need this car for about 10 days or so.

Karen - 96 hours straight is a huge amount of time - I can understand why you miss him ::yes:: That's nice he has some vacation time before Chrismas :goodvibes

Well, I gotta run and get ready for work.
Have a good day today everyone!!!!

Jim was home for 12 hours today & just left to go back for 12 more hours of OT. I hope he has a quiet night! He is trying to get 100 hours of OT on this check. :hourglass It will be great if he can do it without going crazy!

You should see Kevin's rental car - he got a VW Bug (by his request). You should see that car with a blue light on it - to funny!!!! :lmao: It's like a little clown car going to a call :rotfl2:

I'm taking little Ms. Katie to the doctor this morning to get another X-Ray on her colon and to have her chest listened to - she is so congested :guilty: She hasn't been well for a week and a half now, and she is so crabby because of it - poor thing :guilty:

Karen - Good luck to your DH on his quest of 100 hours of OT :wizard: That's alot of hours - I hope he doesn't get to stressed out.

I gotta run - have a good day everyone!!!

slo - Ok the car does sound too funny! :goodvibes
PLease let me know how Katie's appointment goes!

Have a super day everyone!!!!

Yesterday I took Kate to the Pediatrician for a colon X-Ray, and the X-Ray showed that she was only 1/4 cleaned out  I was expecting her to be all emptied out. So, I guess she has to continue on her special diet and on her laxative :guilty:

She also has to go on a new allergy mediciane to help with her cold like symptoms. She has to take one mediciane by mouth and one spray in her nose. She also has the start of an ear infection, so we have to start putting drops in her ears - bummer!!!!!

Well, I gotta run and get ready for work!!
Have a good day today everyone!!!

Idroveallnight said:
I am sorry to hear all of that about Katie! I hope she gets better quickly!

Thanks Karen!!!

I was really bummed out about that colon still being impacted :guilty: But it sounds like this is something that's not going to go away that quick. Oh well, she (or should I say we) have been through worse. This is a pretty easy thing to handle compared to other sicknesses my kids have had.

Hello everyone and TGIF!!!! :cool1:

Tonight is our FD Christmas party - I'll let you know how bad I get razzed by everyone - hopefully it won't be to bad (fingers crossed).

slo - just keeping laughing & smiling and they will get tired of teasing you!! I hope ya'll have a fun party! The company I work part time for has their party tonite so Jim & I are going. Then we have his family's Christmas party on Saturday afternoon and an adults only team party (football) Saturday night! I think I am going to be partied out!!!!!
