Good Monday morning everyone!!! :surfweb:

Thanks for all the kind posts about Kevin's Grandma - I just love you guys!!!

Did you all hear about Steve Irwin dying :guilty: . I am so sad about that :guilty: - I really liked him. You could always tell how much he loved what he did, and how much he loved his family and friends. He was so much fun to watch. I guess the only silver lining I can find in his death is he died doing what he loves, in the enviroment that he loves. He was much to young to die :guilty: My heart goes to his wife Terri and his 2 beautiful children.

Well, I gotta run - have a good day everyone!!!

Good Tuesday morning everyone!!! :surfweb:

Today will be a busy day. I have to work until 2 and then get Kate from daycare, race home and get Steph off the bus, do Steph's homework, eat, and then get ready to go to the funeral home and be there until 8. It makes me tired just thinking about it

Well, I'm off to get ready for work - have a good day today everyone!!

slo - my thoughts are with you today!

One of Jim's friends & fellow firefighters died this weekend. He was doing a side job cutting down a tree and accidently cut his safety line. He spent several days in coma before they did two EEGs to confirm no brain activity. They turned off all the machines on Sunday. He was 45 and had a 10 year old son & four year old daughter. JIm is handling it OK, they haven't worked at the same station for a few years, but have always remained friends.

What terrible news :guilty:

My heart goes out to his family...to lose somebody so young has got to be dreadful. Luckily in this line of work the brotherhood will ensure the well-being of his young children, in all sorts of ways. Won't bring back Dad, but they will look after them. I think all firefighters have some measure of comfort just knowing this.

Take care and :grouphug: to you all.

Karen - I am so sorry to hear this :guilty: What a tragic and terrible thing that happened to him. I will keep this family in my thoughts and prayers.

How was your kids first day of school yesterday? :teacher:
I hope everything went well for them. :)

Good Wednesday morning everyone!! :surfweb:

Yawn....boy am I tired after a long day yesterday. I could have slept another couple of hours

Today is the funeral. I wanted to keep Katie home with my mom, but everyone wants her there. I think it a big mistake, but.....what do I know, I'm just her mother . When she acts up and is loud, because that's how she can get, I hope they all know who wanted to keep her home.

Well, I gotta run - have a good day everyone!!

Hi Sandy!!

The kids all did pretty well, thanks for asking! Let's see...Tyler needed us to get him a ($2300..gasp..gasp..) laptop, a 'wacom' tablet (he draws on this and it goes on the computer (not cheap either!!) and, get this...today he tells me that the program he 'needs' for this calibre(sp?) of laptop that he also 'needed' for his course costs....hold on to your hats, girls.....approx $3000.00!!!!!!!!!!!! Are they INSANE???? :confused3 Yep...let me just go run into our bank and take out that 'spare' $5000+ that we must have hanging around!!!!! As if!!!!!! The laptop was bad enough!!! I mean, I realize that these will be his 'tools' and that is why a 'normal' laptop (eg$700-$900 one, like ours) would not be enough, but, come on!!!! What on earth is this tuition actually paying for??????? :confused3 :confused3 Sorry...rant over!!!

Jesse will take at least 2 weeks to 'wake up', and will be a total BEAR until then!! And Brett thinks he has a "mean" teacher!!! Tried to explain to him that as you get older and are in higher grades, the teachers aren't as 'sweet' to you as they were when he was younger..you know the whole "that's okay, darling. You can just bring it in tomorrow" stuff gets replaced with "No homework here = FAIL/NO RECESS/DETENTION", etc, etc. He'll get over it, I know, but he is a VERY sweet-natured and sensitive kid who takes everything to heart! Just told him that as long as he does what he's supposed to do, there will be no problems!!

How are you? Are both girls in school or just Stephanie?

Good Thursday morning everyone!!! :surfweb:

It's dark outside now in the morning - I don't like it!!!! :sad2:

I'm getting my biopsy results today - keep your fingers crossed for me :wizard:

Have a good day!!!

I read this and I did this
I can't believe they want you to dish out so much money so quick - how frustrating!!! I don't blame you for venting!!!

Stephanie has a hard time waking up in the morning too ::yes::

Sounds like you gave him good advice. :thumbsup2
I hope things get a little easier for him :wizard:
Keep us posted.

How are you?
I'm doing well - thanks!!! :goodvibes
My state real estate test is Tuesday and I'm starting to get nervous.

Are both girls in school or just Stephanie?
Stephanie is the only one in "real" school. She's in 2nd grade and is loving it :teacher:
Katie is in daycare 2 days a week, and she loves that too ::yes::

Well, I gotta run - have a good day!!

Sandy - I can't believe that your trip is only two weeks away. How exciting!!! I wish I could go with you. We've gone the last two Octobers but this year we just can't swing it. Maybe next year. POLY is our favorite too! Your itinerary sounds great!!!

Hi everybody!!!

Just found this thread!!!

My DH is a firefighter for the City of Toronto and is a Capt. in our volunteer dept. He has been doing this for close to 10 years now!! We are all very proud of him! It is an awesome career and he just LOVES it!!

As for the scary stuff....he knows NOT to tell me about ANY fires he is involved in!! I know that may be like sticking my head under a rock, but it works for me!!

 Hi LBelle! We've talked on the LTP thread. Glad to see you made your way over here!!!! Welcome!!!

I just finished Real Estate school and I am waiting to take my state test on Sept. 12th.

I can't believe that you're ready to take the state test already! That really went by fast. Probably not as fast for you, though, since you're the one that had to do all the studying! ;) How soon after taking the test will you know the results???

I really like CSI Miami and CSI New York, but I've never watched any of the other shows. My other favorite shows are Law & Order SVU, ER (even though it's time for this show to retire. But I'm committed since I've been watching it since episode 1), Without a Trace, and that's about it.

I love all the cop/detective shows! (Gee, I wonder why! :lmao: )

LBelle - In case you didn't know from the LTP thread - my DH is a sheriff's deputy (a Lt.). And he and I are both volunteers with our fire department. He's a crew chief with the fire department.

Anyway, I love CSI, CSI Miami, Law and Order SVU, Law and Order CI. I also like older comedies like the Golden Girls and the Nanny.

I'm going to be 35 in October, and I love being a mom. Kevin (my DH) is an engineer as his career, and then he's a volunteer fireman when he's at home. There are some days that we don't see him very much. I've been married for 11 years, and I've been with my DH since we were 16 years old. He's the only guy I've ever been with. We also grew up a block away from each other, and our parents still live a block away from each other. We live approx 3 miles away from them :teeth: It's nice!!! :goodvibes

Oh, my! We're giving out ages. :lmao: I'm 44, very soon to be 45. My birthday is this month.

And as far as family - like Sandy I love being a wife and mom. Those are the only two careers I have ever wanted! DH and I have four children. Heather is 20 and a senior in college majoring in Criminal Justice. A.J. is 17. He is in high school in 11th grade with regular classes and special ed classes. He has Down Syndrome. - Andrew is 13 and a freshman in high school and our baby, Matthew is 12 and in the 7th grade. DH and I are both only children and our parents are gone so we have no extended family. I've met many people on the DIS that I now considered part of our "adopted" extended family!

Hi Sandy!!

Wow..we do seem to have some things in common!! That's great about your new career!! I'm sure you'll have a great time at it!! It fits so well into our type of schedules.

I'm starting to think that I need to look into this real estate stuff! :teeth:
Maybe it's time for a career change!

Stephanie is a real doll!!! I'm sure that Katie is also!!

Both of Sandy's girls are adorable! I've seen pics of them together and they are both so cute!!

I love having my boys but really missed out on girl's clothes shopping!!! Somehow..I never pictured myself having even 1 boy..it was always about having daughters..take them to dance class, figure skating, Brownies, etc..just like Mom!!! Not complaining, but would have loved that whole experience!!

Having had 3 boys and 1 girl I would definitely say that boys are easier to raise, especially once they hit about 10!! DH and I always say that we'll take all three of our boys on a bad day over our DD on a good day! :lmao:

That is soooo sweet that you've married your high school sweetheart!!! You don't hear that all too often, at least not ones that actually endure as yours has!! You are a very lucky woman!!! :cloud9: I was married very young to the father of my oldest 2 boys. Jeff has been raising them as his own for almost 14yrs. now!! My ex and I are still the best of friends, great for the boys..well for everybody actually!! The 5 of us went to the Mayan Riviera last year with him and his wife!!! We all had a great time!!

That is so wonderful that you and your ex have been able to remain friends like you have. That is really great for your boys! You all must be very special people to have been able to accomplish that!!!

DH and I have been married for 23 years. We dated for about a year and then were engaged for two and a half years.

Oh...Brett will begin Grade 5 French immersion after Labor Day! He has been in the full immersion program since kindergarten and is now quite fluent in French!! I, on the other hand, hardly understand a single thing he says!!!

Jesse DID graduate Grade 12 in June BUT for some odd reason, is returning in Sept. to take an advanced Physics or Biology course. He wants to be a Paramedic and since it is a very hard course to get into, he wants to wait for the January class to begin. Would help if he'd APPLIED for it!!!!! :teeth:

Last, but not least, Tyler is our talented :artist: He is in a very intense 3D computer animation course!!

Your boys sound very committed to what they want to do! Andrew would probably get along very well with Tyler...he loves computer animation and is talking about going into that field in some way.

Hello everybody!!! :wave2:

Just stopping by....Sandy, good luck on your test!!! They are pretty intense, aren't they? Don't feel too badly about the kids and the movie scenario...we've ALL done that on occasion, I'm sure!!! Well, I know that I have anyways!!

Jesse broke his collarbone BADLY the other night!! He and Tyler thought it would be a fun time to wrestle/body slam each other around!!! Yippppeee....what fun!!!! :confused3 I think they've learnt a very valuable lesson...we're not just spouting off at them whenever we say things about "not doing such and such because one day somebody will end up hurt", etc, etc.. Tyler feels HORRIBLE though :guilty:

Anyhoo...I'll stop by again in a few more days!!!

Take care
Lisa :teeth:

Oh my!! I hope Jesse is doing better by now! I'm sure Tyler feels awful!

Good Thursday morning everyone!!! :surfweb:

Kathy - are you going to be affected by Ernesto? Please check in and let us know when you get a chance (I know you've been working alot).

Have a good day everyone!!!

Ooops! A little late getting to your question here but....

We had some really bad rain last week. Wednesday and Thursday we had storms that moved through here from the west. From 6:00 p.m. Wednesday evening until noon on Thursday our area got 7" of rain!

We got the rain from Ernesto Friday into Saturday morning but it wasn't too bad. Actually the storms that came through Wednesday and Thursday were worse than Ernesto!

As far as working a lot....yes, I sure have been. I worked seven days straight, had one day off, and then worked another eight days straight. I was off Tuesday and I needed it. I got a lot of housework done. I was really beginning to feel like one of those little wind-up toys and I was definitely winding down. But I'm better now and not working quite so many hours this week! :yay:
