Hi kimba and welcome!!!! :welcome:

My DH used to be a Marine too!! He took the test for FD and PD after he got out and the FD called first! He says that was divine intervention because he doesn't have the patience to be a policeman! He is a career firefighter/driver. He just got approval today (woohoo) to go to school for his pilot's (boat) license! The crew he is with have the pumper and a fireboat, so they do double duty. He has been on for 17 years!

I have 3 kids - DD 19 currently a student at U of A (Roll Tide!!:cheer2: )

DD12 (almost 13) who is intop everything cheerleading, SWAT, great grades, her cell phone & social life

DS10 football, baseball, hunting, fishing and good student - he used to be in Scouts!
I am an RN, cheer director & coach, room mom and volunteering addict - I am considering a support group!

I am glad you stopped in and I hope you will come back! If you check in tomorrow you will meet slo - she's awesome!!!!!:worship:

I'm so glad that Karen gave you this link, and that you came by:goodvibes
Please come by here often, we would LOVE to have you!!!!! :grouphug:
Thanks for sharing about yourself - here's a little about me........
*My name is Sandy, and I own a custom picture frame store in my town (I've been open since June 11, 2007). Before opening my store, I worked for another picture frame store for almost 20 years - I love my work!!!!! :goodvibes
*My DH's name is Kevin, and he is a Mechanical Engineer by day, and then a Lieutenant (sp?) and EMT on our volunteer FD by night & weekends. I understand about never seeing your DH, because I never see him. When he's not doing either of these 2 things, he's going to town meetings, because he's on 3 committees - he is a very involved man!!!! :)
*My 9yr old DD's name is Stephanie, and right now, she's not doing to much :sad2: She somewhat struggles in school, and has to go to a tutor twice a week. She used to be in gymnastics and dance, but I had to pull her out of that, so she could go to this tutor - hopefully she'll continue when her grades get back on track.
*My 4yr old DD's name is Katie, and she doesn't to much either, because she doesn't want to  I repeatedly ask her if she wants to do dance, but she totally refuses:confused: Maybe next year she'll play T-Ball :) She goes to daycare MWF, and then on Tues. & Thurs she goes to work with me all day - I love it!!!!!
*That's a little about us :teeth:

Karen -
If you check in tomorrow you will meet slo - she's awesome!!!!! :worship:
Oh stop, you're making me blush
In all seriousness, that was really sweet of you to say

Well, I gotta run and get ready for work
It's Wednesday, which means it's bathroom day - I feel like I just cleaned them:rolleyes: These days are going by way to fast:sad2:
Have a good day today everyone!!!

sandy - it's all true!! You are geat!! I was really just mostly a lurker until I came over here and met you! :goodvibes
James was behind in reading in first grade and our school has a tutoring program (Tiger Club) that was awesome! They made it a "club", so the kids were excited about going! It was fantastic!

James isn't feeling well this morning, so I think he is going to stay home from school. Jim will be around today, so I don't have to call in sick. It's good when it works out like that! Although, it would be nice to stay home!!

Well basbeball practice is in full swing! We tried to change teams, but couldn't. I hate this team because they practice at 3:30!! James doesn't even finsh Safety Patrol until 3:30, I work until at least 5pm and well, wew all know JIm's schedule! The coaches are self employed and are able to leave work . They just don't seem to understand that we can't all do that! Jim took so much comp time last year (leaving work) to take him and we just couldn't do it again. We had a long talk with the head coach and one of them picked James up and took him yesterday. We'll see if it lasts. I hope it does!

Well, I am going to check on James again! See ya'll tomorrow!

Thanks for the Welcome Karen and Sandy!!

I got a few minutes so I'll tell you some more about my family.

Dh's name is Sam and he and I have been married for almost 17yrs now. He's an Electrician and I'm a stay-at-home, homeschool mom. We have 3 children.

Kayla - will be 16 next month and in 10th grade. She's an Irish dancer and Disney freak and doesn't wake up till after 10 am everyday!

Koty - he just turned 13, he's a boy scout and he has settled in to being a teen by also not waking up till 10

Then there is Jocelyn. She'll be 10 in June. She's also an Irish dancer. She's in 4th grade and she's my best student. She loves Princesses and thinks she is one;)

Oh we also have a spoiled doberman named Greta who actually thinks she's one of my children

We had a bad wind storm last night and currently our trampoline is in some trees:scared1: My parents and my nephew (he's 14 and homeschooled too) are on their way up to help me rescue it. Dh leaves for work before the sun comes up so he didn't get to see any of the damage. Besides the trampoline, my plastic table that we use out back is flattened, my down spout off my gutter is loose. The wind tore the screws right out of it! And then there is debris everywhere!!

I gotta run and start the clean up but I will be back!!

Kimba

Hi Guys!!
Just found that other post too and found you all here...after all the years on the boards, I never knew this one existed.:confused3
I am the wife of a 19 year career firefighter. I am a stay-at-home mom right now. But I am also a travel consultant. Worked for Disney when they had travel desks inside some Disney Stores.(Best job in the world!!)Still do outside sales for a local agency, but it's more like a hobby. We live in a small town in the smallest state, but hubby works in the next city over. He also has a second job from before his ff days, he is a HVAC technician. Most career fire fighters around here have a 2nd job as their shifts work 2 ten hour days then 2 14 hour nights and then 4 days off.
We have 4 children:
Lauren is 21 and graduating from Lafayette College in May. She plans on going to law school.
Nicholas is 18, graduated from high school last June. He started out at a community college in September to study law enforcement but has changed his mind and now wants to pursue a career in firefighting:thumbsup2 He starts the EMT-B in May and has since joined the volunteer department here in town. He just made Eagle Scout and we are busy planning his Court of Honor.
Jordan is 17, a junior in high school. She has been studying classical ballet since she was 3, but for the last 2 years she has been taking classes in jazz, modern and lyrical. This is her first year competing and we will be in Florida this summer for a national competition.
Lilly is 6, and is in kindergarten. She was our foster child that we were blessed to adopt almost 2 years ago. She keeps us on our toes! Full of energy and she loves to dance and perform. She takes ballet and tap.
Well, that's a little about us. Hope to visit back often:)

It's an early start here today
I have to drive Stephanie to the bus stop, so I can go immediately to a Chamber of Commerce breakfast. The food and talk is always good, but it makes for a long day, because today I have to work till 7pm :faint:

Karen - How is James feeling today? I hope he is feeling better. If not, I'll send a ton of get well PD his way :wizard:

Kim - Thanks for telling us more about your family :goodvibes
I've been meeting more and more people that homeschool their children :teacher: and I have such admiration for all of you:worship: , because I don't think I would have the patience or discipline to do it. What was your inspiration to want to homeschool your children?

Kerri - Hi there, and welcome:goodvibes !!!!!
Thanks for coming by here, and telling us about yourself, and your family. Please come by here often and visit - we would love to get to know you!!!! :goodvibes

Well, I gotta run and get ready for this breakfast
Have a good day everyone!!!

Hi kerri and welcome!!!

kimba - I am glad you came back!!!

sandy - How's your weather? We had more storms last night and now another cold front, but who am I kidding? It won't last too long!! When is Stephanie's First Communion?

Ok, so I have to tell ya'll about Emily! At the last Mardi Gras parade we just happened to stand next to the GM for a tv station here in town. We chatted and he invited us to tour the station. He really enjoyed speaking with Emily. So we went yesterday, he gave us goodie bags and gifts, we toured the station, met the anchors & then watched the evening news in the studio while they di it! Very cool! But, he than asked Emily to come back for a camera test to see if she would be a good youth reporter for the station! Even if nothing comes of it, the whole idea is pretty neat!

Have a great day everyone!!

:surfweb:

I'm up early this Saturday morning, because Stephanie and I have a retreat at church from 9:00 - 11:30 today. This retreat is in preparation for STephanie's first communion - it should be very informative, which is nice, because I wasn't raised Catholic, and this is all very new to me.

Karen - The weather still stinks around here!!! I'm waking up this morning to a HUGE temp of 14 degrees :cold: This has been the longest winter for us, and I just want it to go away. This winter has made it almost impossible to be excited about Easter - it just doesn't feel Eastery around here:sad2: Oh well, I guess we are on the home stretch, and hopefully it'll be over soon :wizard:
**Stephanie's First Communion is April 26th - I still can't believe it!!!
She just seems to young, and I know I'll be an emotional wreck on that day:sad1:
**That's great about that GM being so nice to you guys. I sure hope he gives Emily that opportunity - that would be so awesome for her!!! Keep me posted!!!!

Well, I gotta go get ready
Have a good day today!!!

While I was still in bed, I kept thinking to myself, "it's an hour earlier, I can stay in bed for awhile yet." Then I realized at 8:30 that it was really 9:30  and I sprang out of bed. I don't know why I did this, because I'm not going anywhere today:rolleyes: I guess it just felt weird for me to still be in bed at 9:30am - I never do that :sad2:

Kevin and I watched the movie DejaVu last night - with Dezel Washington. It was really good, and I recommend it to others. It's not a kids movie, so make sure the kids aren't around when you have it on.

Well, I need to start thinking about some breakfast
Have a good day today everyone!!!

Kim - Thanks for telling us more about your family :goodvibes
I've been meeting more and more people that homeschool their children :teacher: and I have such admiration for all of you:worship: , because I don't think I would have the patience or discipline to do it. What was your inspiration to want to homeschool your children?]
Actually, DH and I knew we wanted to homeschool when our oldest was about 3. There were a few reasons why (local school systems, lack of Christianity in the schools) but the main reason was when came time to put my little first born daughter on the school bus and send her away for the day I just couldn't do it. I knew homeschooling was a real option and I always thought I was smarter than any of the teachers I had in school anyway:rotfl2: . So I just jumped right in and started from Day 1. We've never looked back.

I will say it's not always easy. My kids are normal and they do bicker with each other. (2 teenagers under one roof :scared1: ) And I will say trying to pull Algebra from the dusty corner of my brain wasn't too easy!! But it all came back to me and what didn't I learned as I taught. Actually I have learned so much by teaching them. I only wish my health was better so I could be more active. But we adapt and now that my oldest is almost 16 she is an enormous help to me.

Wow! Sorry for going on and on...I'm just passionate about homeschooling!!

Karen - how cool for your daughter!!!

Hi Kerri!! Welcome!!!

Hello everyone! well another weekend of call complete! It was fairly busy. Then we had a birthday party this afternoon. They live about 40 minutes away and we stayed a couple of hours. Then we went to a seafood place for dinner. We got a table overlooking the water & it was a beautiful day. We are very spoiled with our great seafood here! Jim and James shared a huge platter , I had crab cakes with a side of cheese grits and Emily had CHICKEN!!!!:lmao: I suppose I should be happy she had it in a salad!

sandy - I know how you feel about First Communion! It's a huge deal!!!! I was very emotional with all 3 of my kids! I hate the time change!!! It messes with my head! I've seen Deja Vu! It is a good movie!

kimba - I have been fortunate here with the schools. For elementary school I learned how to fill out transfer paperwork to be sure my kids were in the best elementary school! We have a Magnet School program here (schools of choice) they are public, but you apply and they do a random draw. We have been fortunate to get into the Preparatory school - very tough curriculum with emphasis on character and personal responsibility. For high school, we were able to use a curriculum transfer for Sarah and we will do it for the other kids. If a school offers something that no other does, they can't deny access to it! The school Sarah went to has and IB program, international studies and dual enrollment programs (free college classes). If I hadn't had those options, I always told Jim we'd have to home school!! Do you have to be under a church umbrella? The home schoolers here do.

Sarah got to see Kenny Chesney last night. He is doing his Keg in the Closet tour of college towns. The ticket was $10!!!! She got to see him last year too. They lined up early and got to be in the very front!! Lots of hand slapping, pictures, guitar picks, etc...

See ya'll later!! Karen

Me and the girls had such a hard time going to sleep last night :headache: It has to be because of the time change - I can't think of any other reason. Stephanie didn't complain about it, but Katie sure did. She kept saying, "Mommy, I can't fall asleep!!!!" She finally did at around 10:30pm. I don't think I fell asleep until about 12:30am, which is frustrating, because I went to bed at 9:45pm:rolleyes: Now, this morning, I'm feeling so so tired!!!!! :faint: But I got a good startel, first thing this morning, when I went downstairs - the security alarm went off:eek: I hurried up and looked at the system, and I set it on "away" instead of "stay" and I triggered the motion sensor (at least I know that works:rolleyes: ) so I hurried up and turned that off - I hope this is not a sign on how the rest of the day is going to be:rolleyes:

What did everyone do yesterday?
I had a very productive day!!! I cleaned out Katies closet, and threw alot away. Then I rearranged Katies bedroom furniture - it looks great in her room now :thumbsup2 Then I vacuumed 3/4 of the house, and cleaned the kitchen floor - it was a great cleaning day!!!! :teeth:

Kim said:
Actually I have learned so much by teaching them
My friend said the exact same thing!!! ::yes::
I think it's great that you made this decision, and never regretted it - this means you made the right decision ::yes:: You sound like a great role model for your children :goodvibes
**I saw you mention about "your health"
If you ever need to talk about things, we are always here for you to listen:grouphug:

Karen - I bet you do have good seafood there ::yes:: When we used to go to the Tampa Bay area, to see Kevin's parents before we went to Orlando, we ALWAYS enjoyed the fresh seafood there too :goodvibes
**At the risk of sounding goofy - wo is Kenny Chesney:confused: He sounds really familiar, but I don't know why

Well, I gotta run and change the sheets (Monday is sheet changing day)
Have a good day today everyone!!!

I would like to go on record about how much I hate daylight savings! Where is the sun???

sandy - Kenny Chesney is a country singer. He was briefly married to Renee Zeilweger. He's pretty durn popular!

I got the day to day schedule typed up and emailed to all the travellers for our trip to Disney! Emily is going to borrow a coworker's Mardi Gras pirate costume - this means she will be a pirate with sequins for the P&PP. Lila is also going to be a pirate. I have to find James a pirate costume. Mom and I are wearing pink PotC tshirts.

Well, I am off to get Emily out the door! Both kids have exams this week! Woohoo!

I'm so excited...DH actually finished our bathroom this weekend!! It's done in a Disney theme. We painted, replaced the sink vanity and medicine cabinet and added some things. It looks so nice. We've been here almost 5 years and up till now that was the only room that didn't fit in (color wise-I love dark colors and this room was light blue). As soon as I get pictures loaded I'll post them.

The best part...DH had no calls all weekend...no distractions.:woohoo:

Sandy - I bet that alarm scared the wits out of you!! DH's new pager makes all of us jump out of our skin. It's super loud and vibrates so it makes the oddest sound. And of course he has the volume turned all the way up :headache:

Karen - My DD would love to see Kenny Chesney. My Mother and Father in law got to go when he came to Atlantic City and they really enjoyed it.

Currently though DD's(almost 16) only thoughts are about the Jonas Brothers. She is just "SO in love with them!!".
Her Birthday is April 2 and I tried my best to get her tickets to their concert but it sold out in a flash. So as a consolation prize I found out that a bed and breakfast in Cape May (about an hour south of us) is having a Chocolate Fantasy Buffet. So I got tickets for her and Dh and I. She's thrilled with that as she is a major chocoholic!! We promised her a carriage ride afterwards. She's happy to have mom and dad to her self for a while.

I gotta run and check on my parents. My mom was thinking of taking my dad to the ER because his nose won't stop bleeding...again!

Talk to you soon!!
Kim

Morning ladies! Long time no talk to!

Anyone see the news about the Lt. that was killed at the Wendy's here?? He actually worked at the station that covered our neighborhood (DH works for a city south of us..not the county we live in). I have been so sad about this guy..he has 5 kids the youngest is 4 and was in the car waiting for him to exchange the meal toy when his dad was killed!

I sent his widow a small check..all I could think of was if I was in her position...horrible!

thanks Kerri..guess I could have done that too but I was posting in a rush..

we have had a saturating of coverage about it all week...and I live about a mile from the ampitheater where the memorial was held..I have never seen so many trucks and dress uniforms..very moving

I did hear about him on our news. I am glad so many turned out for his memorial! Firefighters are so good about that! Keeping his family in my prayers! I think sending a check was an awesome thing! With four children, every bit will help!:thumbsup2

kimba - My 12yo loves the Jonas Brothers! She saw them this summer in Valdosta - of course only because a friend has very wealthy grandparents there!! That was her friend's BD present & Emily got to tag along! I think I would rather do the chocolate event!!
