Hey Guys!
We have a new miniature dachshund puppy, Daisy! She is about 5 months old now, and adorable. And of course, she is the queen of the household now, her every whim is catered to...but who could expect anything else?! I am trying to build her some little steps so that she can get up on the bed with mom and dad. The bed is about 24 inches high, so I made plans. (I felt very trading spaces-ish! hehe) The plan right now is- 21 inches high, 10 inches wide. there will be three steps, 7 inches high and a 6 inch "landing". If that was completley confusing- very sorry!! I'm not really up on my woodworking terms!! hehe! If anyone has any advice Id really love it! I saw on TLC a couple of days ago where they built one, and it looked really cool! I cant find the plans for it on the website though!! I know that you can buy them places, but it seems it would be so much easier (and cheaper) to make one! If not easier, I like a challenge! :) Thanks!!

Jenn and Daisy:)

The plans are not on the website because they didn't make it only recovered on they already had.

I saw one made on Clean Sweep, the TLC shows don't tend to give their plans anywhere.

It looked fairly simple, almost a series of boxes. I liked how they kept it open on the ends so it could double as a storage space. I didn't like that it was taller than the bed.

I need to make a step for the dogs to get to our dog door. I plan on getting some MDF to use for the surface and make a frame under it with 2x4s. I also want to try to make it so we can use it for storage after seeing the one they did.

Those shows are dangerous.

I have received catalogs in the past that sell ramps or steps to help older or small dogs get onto beds or into taller cars(like SUVs).

Two to check out are Drs. Foster and Smith and Care-A-Lot Pets.

Can't tell you how to build the steps. Just wanted to congratulate you on your new little doxie puppy. Is she long, smooth or wire? Just want to warn you, they are like Lays potato chips you can't own just one. :)

Dancergirl is my dd and you should have seen her working on those plans. I guess all that math came in handy huh? ;)

Dh's cousin has a little Chihuahua that is extremely spoiled. She bought a baby bassinet & put it next to her bed with a ramp leading up to it. The dog sleeps in it with all of her frufru-ie little pillows - very funny.

Sorry, I couldn't answer your question, but maybe you could do a ramp. I would definitely not want a dachsund jumping on & off the bed, could be bad for the back. Good luck on your search.

you need to hold your rise and run ( hieght and width) the same, heres a template to get youstarted, this is for a 4 inch rise and a 10 inch run, hope it helps.

We have a similar problem with our dogs and a very high bed. We bought a wooden 2-step stool from QVC, then DH fastened a wider piece of plywood onto the bottom step to make it easier for them to climb up. Finally, he covered the steps with carpeting. It works like a charm.

Good luck with your project.

Thanks everyone for your replies! This week I will work hard on it!! Ill post a picture when it is finished! Have a great 4th!

She is a smooth black and tan! I have already asked for another one!! hehe Mom doesnt like that idea too much! Her reasoning is I'll be leaving for college in a year, so they will be the ones taking care of both. Maybe they will give in at some point! hehe:Pinkbounc
