Okay, so I know many of us are overplanners with what park to do and which rides first. But does anyone else obsess over the health of the family before going. Example...we leave on Wed for Disney and my daughter was riding her roller skates the other day and I was a nervous wreck. Then my husband hops on a neighbors skateboard and all I'm thinking about is, broken leg, oh well he's going to be left behind if he can't keep up the pace at Disney!! I also obsess about getting sick before we go. My dd5 was sick in Jan this year when we were there and it wasn't our best trip. But, the good news is...no injuries or sickies as of now...unless you count me, who is up at 5am on this Dis because I'm too excited to sleep!!! :woohoo:

I must admit i am exactly the same. I don't like the children going on the climbing frames at the park just before our trip and i am a nervous wreck if they are on their bikes!

My little boy starts pre-school tomorrow and i am praying he doesnt get a bug or something. :sad2:

I'm the same way. I always think about getting a stomach virus or a bad case of the flu. You can keep going with a cold but with a stomach bug you're going to be doing a lot of sitting in the room looking for Hidden Mickeys on the wallpaper. We go during the warmer months when it seems sickness isn't going around as bad but I still always worry about it.

Not to Fear, if its meant to happen it will, our best friend leaves for Disney in 23 days, flying, stepped out her front door, slipped and fell, broke her leg last week. The swelling is so bad, the doctors have delayed puting a cast on it. She has an appointment this week "Thursday" to cast the leg, as long as all the swelling is down. She is a wreck, sitting, lying, and waiting to find out if she will be getting a walking cast. We are hoping it all works out for her.

My DD just got Bronchittis, and I'm worried not about missing the trip, it's not until after thanksgiving. I'm worried about her missing school before or after the trip. I'm taking her out for 6 days for Disney and I don't want her to miss much school this year for being sick.

DH says I'm under "house arrest" so that I won't get hurt before our trip since I fell about 2 days before our May trip, broke my arm (needed surgery; was in the hospital for 3 days), and we had to reschedule that trip for now! In return, he's not allowed to play football or paintball since neither of us is real graceful! :goodvibes
A few good things came out of that awful day: free dining, an extra day (since it's value season), and MNSSHP!

I cracked the ball of my shoulder Playing PAINTBALL the day after our return from our trip in 04. It mostly ended me playing at all as I'm no spring chicken and didn't heal that great.Work didn't like the idea of me missing 4 months either.

The funniest was we went the day after a big 10 man tourniment I was a front player and had about 100 welts on me. Talk about clearing a pool I think they thought I was a leper or something.

Good thing is instead of traveling around playing we now just go to Disney more offen.

YES YES YES. We have been so lucky on our previous trips, no one has been sick or injured. This time dd is starting preschool tomorrow and ds is in 1st grade. I have already heard there is lice reportedly showing up in several of the classrooms, strep throat and a virus! Good grief, doesn't anyone wash anymore???? Our trip is 19 days away.

We all took turns getting sick while at Disney a couple years ago. I always worry now going in November since it's flu season. I make sure the kids get flu shots!! We use hand sanitizer like crazy and vitamin C !! I just had surgery two weeks ago so by November will be ready to go!!! :thumbsup2

I can definitely relate to this post. On our first trip with our two little ones, who were both under 3 at the time, my son vomited on the way to the airport. I worried the whole time that he had a bug. Turns out he was fine.

On our next trip, my husband, daughter and I had been sick. I ended up buying something that would prevent my son from getting sick, so I thought. Then we ended up taking an antibiotic down for my daughter. I worried that she might have an ear infection, which she was prone to. So my pediatrician, also a Disney nut, gave her some samples of antibiotic, just in case!

Now, we're ready for our trip in 5 days, and like you, I'm kind of freaking out. My youngest (and newest addition) has a horrible cold that keeps waking her up in the night. Last night I decided to make an appointment for her on Wed. just in case she's still sick and it's turned into an ear infection. Also, Sat we found out that my middle daughter has a urinary tract infection! Thank heavens that got diagnosed before we left!

So, freak out? Yes, I do. With good reason! These little people are so prone to infection. And I don't want that to ruin our trip. I've heard nightmare stories about moms staying in rooms all day with vomiting kids while Dad takes the others out to ride, etc. DON'T want that to happen to me, but I guess I can't control it if it does! :confused3

I start to become a GERMAPHOBE!!! I recoil from coughing children (I seem to pick up things from kids). I won't even talk to my office mates if they tell me their kids have a "bug" within a week of my trip.

It is hard to do all the planning and then deal with disappointment of sickness or broken bones!!

Once before a trip (non-WDW) my DH got the end of a Q-Tip stuck in his ear!!!! ARG!!!! Emergency room visit for a Q-TIP! (Yes, I lectured him LONG before this about sticking those things in his ear!). Poor DH - if he knew I told that story, he would be mad!!!

I can't keep dd home from school leading up from our trip, but I did keep her home from the chilcare at the gym. I did not want to expose her to more germs than necessary.

Yes and I'm freaking out right now. We leave on the 26th. So far me and 3 of my kids have had this horrible stomach bug that keeps us puking and pooping for over a week. Guess what? My oldest DD who is going on the trip and my Mom haven't gotten it yet. I suppose they will come down with it the day we leave. I'm crossing my fingers. I just had to have a CT scan because of some problems and had myself convinced I had something I'd have to be operated on or prevent the trip. Thank God, no. But I still have the pain with no known cause :confused3

Here's hoping all of us have a great sick free trip!

I'm glad I'm not the only one. It's allergy season at my house. Coughing, sneezing, sore throats. I'm getting worried now because we leave this Sunday and I don't want the kids to miss any school days before we leave. I've made my husband stay off his dirt bike for the past two weeks. He broke his wrist in February riding (crashing) his bike. He's accident prone. For now he's only allowed to golf until after our trip. I've packed the entire medicine cabinet just in case the kid's allergies continue to act up.

Time and Time again the DISboards prove that I'm not alone! I made the family drink Airbourne for a week before we left!

I FELL TOO!!! I tore some ligiments in my knee, and I see a specialist on Wednesday. I have an imobilizer on my leg, but we leave for WDW on Sept.30th!!! My DH is annoyed that I am whining about our trip! I know it is not nearly as bad as your friend, but I can totally relate! Maybe we'll both be having a slightly different trip than planned. :smokin:

To the OP, you may as well relax. You won't be able to stop destiny. It's all a matter of how we deal with what comes our way...you'll be fine! ;) :cheer2:

i kept passing this thread up because of the 'freakshow' title.....surely nothing in it could apply to me! :cloud9:

hehehehehe.....WRONG! :teacher:

this is me...handing out multi-vitamins and extra vitamin c 2 weeks before departure. :wave2:

of course, there are many unforeseen things that can happen in the meantime but i'm going to do my best to keep them all healthy! :wizard:

We leave in a few hours and for some reason I think my body likes to get sick when I travel. Last May we went to Disneyland and the day we left I got a horrible cold! It was awful! Like some posters have said though, at least you can tolerate a cold doing the parks. Then in June I went on a road trip and got laryngitis! And now, *sigh* I have a bad cold again. I woke up on Saturday with it! Doing everything in my power to make it go away! The worst is flying with a cold! :sad2: Oh-well.....it'll be alright cause I'll be on vacation!!! :cool1:

Op here...well, I will say what a relief to know there are others like me!! Comfort in numbers... :grouphug: DD5 started pre-school today and only goes 3 days this week before we leave for "the World", but I'm already observing the other kids to see any signs of sickness. Now, all I really need is my "Disney Therapy"!! :dance3:

My Dh and I are always afraid of getting sick because of one of our experiences. We were sick the whole time on our honeymoon (a week cruise). Now we take zinc two months before going on vacations. One tablet a day. Luckily, it has worked so far. :cool1:
