I got a Kodak EasyShare 6.1MP digital camera for Christmas :cool1: . I've taken a lot of pics but internal memory is only 16-18 shots...not nearly enough for Disney :sad2: I'm looking at getting the memory cards to take with us but heres my question. What is the difference between the SD card (looking at 512) and the compact flash cards? I've looked through the manual, tried to decifer it on line...I need simple, plain words as I wouldn't know how to set a "f" stop if my life depended on it :guilty: Help me please. And I'm also seeing a vast difference in the number of pics that can be stored on a memory card depending on if you take "standard" or "fine" pics. I usually just set it on auto and go. I know for fireworks I need to set it on the special feature and think I've figured that out, but as for the rest, I'm lost. :love2: Thanks in advance.

I have the exact same camera and love it!!! All of my memory cards are the SD. I have 2 128 MB and a 512MB. Looking at getting a 1 GB before my next WDW trip. I would call Best Buy and ask them. (That's where I bought my camera) They would be able to help if no one else can.

The 128 MB will take over 100 pictures and the 512 over 200. better to have more than one memory card on hand. Plus keep an eye out for sales on the memory cards... sometimes besides the sales they'll have a mail in rebate.

SD and compact flash are 2 totally different types of memory cards. You need to find out what kind of memory card your camera takes, they all take different kinds.

My Kodak is a 5.1. It takes an SD card. I also have a Canon 3.2. It takes a flashcard. Two completely different cards. I "think" the Kodak takes SD but look in your manual to be sure. The higher the number, the more memory it has. Also, the setting that you have noticed, "fine, extra fine", it determines the quality of the photo IF you plan on enlarging it. I have mine set on good, which is about medium, I can enlarge without getting grainy, and I can have a good amount of pics stored. If you choose the best quality, your pic storage goes down.

Have fun!

Also something to keep in mind. The more megapixels the better quality photo, BUT... the larger the file is. Which, in turn, means the more storage space is required.

If you want to store more pictures on the same media (SD in your case, apparently) you can decrease the number of megapixels.

I have a Sony Cybershot 5.0 MP that uses MS Pro media. I have a 256M card that stores quite a few shots.

BTW, the price of storage media has dropped quite a bit lately. I was either at Sam's or Costco and a 256 MS Pro that used to run about $80 is now available for $34. I'm going to buy 2 or 3 before my WDW trip in 28 days!

Your camera takes SD (Secure Digital) memory cards. These are a smaller sized flash memory card. CF is older design and usually can be obtained with a higher capacity. If you are looking for a good quality SD card that is very fast for a good price check out Dell Home. They have the SanDisk 1GB Ultra II SD, this card has a very fast 9MB/sec write time for $78.74 with free shipping. I have the CF of version of this card and it is very fast.

Enjoy CSR I have some wonderful pictures from there, it is a beautiful resort.

:goodvibes Thanks everyone...that SD vs CF thing was driving me nuts (and trust me, its not a long trip) :rotfl: I have found several, brand new, in package SD cards on e-bay for $40 (512). They're running $72 at Wal-mart. Since the ones on e-bay are still sealed, I would assume they're okay...any advice here? If I could buy 2 512's for the price of 1 I would be ecstatic. You guys rock...thanks again for all the help.

I have the exact same camera and LOVE it! Takes WONDERFUL pictures! I'll never go back to print film again!

One question though for those of you who have this camera as well. How in the world do you download the video clips??????? I have tried and tried!!! I get the sound but no video!! I have tried using the Kodak software that came with the camera plus tried real player, quicktime, and windows media...nothing works. It saves it as a .MOV file and none of these programs will recognize it. Any help is appreciated. :confused3

Hi, I just took my first video with my new Kodak camera last night and all I did was hit the 'share' button after I hooked up the camera to the computer and it downlaoded the pictures and the movie clip automatically to my file. Was so easy even I could do it. I love my Kodak camera.

Slightly Goofy

Best Buy has the SD 512 on sale this week for 45.99. We just bought a Kodak yesterday and got the memory card to go with it!

Not only are there different types of cards there are different speed cards. the ones you find for $50-$75 at WalMart and Target are typically a slower card. The Ultra II and other similar high-speed cards are much faster. With write times twice that of the cards at Walmart. When you get into 5 MP and up and take pictures in highest resolution, the time it takes to write to the disk and then be able to take the next picture gets longer. You will notice a big difference going from a regular to a high speed card, on most cameras.

The 1GB card at Dell is less than the highspeed 512MB card at Circuit City and BestBuy. WalMart doesn't even sell them. Another place to try is www.newegg.com, they have a very good reputation. They have the Ultra II 512MB card for $58.01.

If you want cheap memory cards, you should check out www.ecost.com then click on their bargain countdown and scroll down. They have great prices on memory cards. I just bought a 256 CF card for $20 with a $16 rebate = $4.00! Can't beat that.

I just picked up a Viking 1GB SD card for my DW's DX6490 from Ecost for $20.64 shipped overnite, after $15.00 rebate. I have purchased other cards from them in the past including my 1GB Ultra II CF card.

.mov is a quicktime format, if it isnt working, make sure you have the latest version of quicktime and not an old version. on the mac, plug the camera in, and iphoto downloads the pics and videos into its library automatically.

I hope someone can help me. I just bought a Kodak camera on clearance at Target. It's a 7330 I believe. What type of memory card would I need, the CF? I'm at work and my camera is at home so I can't check it out but wanted to ask here while I'm reading this thread. Thanks a bunch.
