Calling all Chicago DISers #3

I don't know how I feel about DD skipping a grade. She's socially comfortable where she is, both with the kids she's with and being at the same social "level" as her. She does know a couple of the kids in the next grade, but when she's with them it's more like she's "whatever you guys want to do is cool" rather than "what are we going to do?" But I'll deal with that obstacle if it comes along, when it does! Right now, I'm just looking forward to her OT eval, so that I can take it in writing to the school and then stick my tongue out at them! :rotfl: Not a very good example for the kids, but a lot better than what I've dreamed of doing to them lately!!
Hope everyone is enjoying the weekend!

natashag: skipping only works well if done early.1st or 2nd grade. (just like , when people move, they try to do it before the kids hit middle school, when they have developed "real" friendships. )
remember when you were little, how easy you made friends..... "hi? wanna play?" "ok"
children who are more intelligent than their "peers" tend to be outcasts. they actually fit in better with kids of their own intellect level.otherwise, as they progress is "grade level" the smarter ones tend to "dumb down", in order to fit in.

Good Morning Everyone! :flower3: Long time no posts from me..... sorry about that. Been very busy lately. We put an offer in on another condo in Orland. Right near the mall. We accepted their counter offer so we are in contract AGAIN. I'm very nervous and really don't want to jinx anything so I'm not getting too excited yet. Also, my shower is this coming Saturday. We are very excited about it. I can't believe it's coming up so soon. I've been on a search for silver shoes to match my dress. I finally found a pair (actually 2 pair) this weekend! :goodvibes hmmm... what else is new around here... not too much. just getting things ready i suppose.

ID ~ how's the job hunt going?

Natasha ~ sorry to hear about the trouble with DD's school. hopefully things will work out. :wizard:

Slo ~ sorry to hear about the carpal tunnel. hopefully the brace treatment will work for you:wizard:

Bunchy ~ glad to hear you had a good time at DL.

Everyone else ~ :wave2: hope you all are doing well! Spring is just around the corner.... I can feel it! :flower3:

We had considered having ds skip Kindergarten and go directly to 1st. We chose not too since he was going to be the youngest kindergartener due to his late birthday. I have to agree on the "dumb down" syndrome - he did and does this to fit in. Being young in his class as it is, he is very self-conscious that the other guys are maturing and hie isn't yet. I can only imagine how he would feel if he were almost 2 years younger than some of his classmates.

We enrolled him in weekend and summer courses through Center for the Gifted. He was a different kid when he went to those classes since he was with kids like him.

Decisions....decisions... decisions. Good luck!

Hi guys! So excited for the weather forecast this week! They're saying 50s by the weekend! :goodvibes

Same old stuff here. DH leaves tomorrow for San Diego, will be home Friday. DD13 is now busy with play practice at school, they're doing Beauty & the Beast. DD8 is getting ready for her first dance competition March 20-21.

mac - thanks for the listings. How are things going?

disneygal - nothing on the job front yet, have applied to a lot but heard nothing back yet.......
*Congrats on the condo, will keep my fingers crossed for you.

nashtag - best of luck on the school issue, they are never fun. Have spent my fair share of time at both schools this year and I'm looking forward to summer vacation! ;)

MJ - sounds like you had a fun-filled weekend (minus the work). Hope it was great!

Bunchkin - oh so jealous, to be able to go to WDW or DL for the weekend. :cloud9:
*Best of luck on Spring Break! We're headed to HHI but no parents or ILs, just the 5 of us.

slo - I'm hoping the braces will be of help so you can avoid the shots, they sound painful.

:wave2: to everyone else.

Now that the Olympics is over I'm looking forward to getting more rest. I'd fallen into the bad habit of DVRing them and then staying up way too late watching. Still have the closing ceremony but think I'll save that for tomorrow when I'm folding laundry. Have a good night all. :flower3:

Good morning everyone. Hope everyone is doing well. Not much to say. Did not sleep well so very tired. Have a great day everyone.

Hi everyone!!!

Sorry I have been away for so long. It's been a rough time. Lost my job about 6 months ago and thinking anything about Disney was just too depressing.

I have finally found a new job and getting back on track. I miss being on the boards. Hope everyone is well.

wanted to say a quick hello, will be back later today!!

Have a great day!!

Evening all!! Just wanted to say hello and let everyone know that I think of you and keep up with reading, just busy around the house and with school and running kids, so not doing much posting. Hope everyone is doing well and enjoying life. Spring is almost here!

Hi everyone,! I hope you are all well and enjoying the fact that the snow seems to be melting pretty quickly:banana:

I took a tour of new school yesterday and I think it will be a good fit for both of my oldest children. I took a tour of it 2 years ago, before DD started kindergarten, but it was just opening that fall and I didn't want my kid to be the guinea pig, so to speak. So now, 2 years later, I'm kicking myself that I wasn't the adventurous sort. Oh well. It also looks like we may have 2 or 3 families defecting with us! Perhaps the current school will take a hint!

Thank you, everyone, for your support and letting me use you guys as a sounding board!:grouphug:

Disneynut - Congrats on the new job!

Hi gang! Just a quick check in today. It seems we are all pretty busy with life lately.

DS has a band concert tonight so I am leaving work early today. YEA!

I am loving this weather! 3 weeks from about this exact minute I will be leaving for Disney. I am ready!

DG - Congrats on the condo! Fingers crossed that it all works out.

Disneynut - Congrats on the new job!

Natashag - School decisions are so tough. Looking back, I wish I had made other decisions considered instead of going with the public school. You will do what is best for your kiddos!

Hi to everyone else! Back to work I go.
Lori

Hi guys! Is it really Thursday already?! Whenever DH is out of town the days just seem to blur together. He'll be home tomorrow thankfully. Both DDs are off school tomorrow but DD13 has play practice 10a-2p so she'll still be busy. DD8 is looking forward to have some one-on-one time with me. DS finishes ISATs tomorrow, phew glad that'll be over.

A little ticked at DDs dance studio, when the costumes came in I asked if I had to have them do the alterations. I was told no that I could do them. There was a sign-up sheet posted for those that wanted them done by the studio and I did not sign up. Well, picked up DDs costume yesterday and there was a bill pinned to it for the alterations. When I inquired today they gave me the phone number for the seamstress, now I have to call her about it. :sad2:

Just got the brochure in the mail for DSs special needs day camp for summer, it went up almost $200! DD13 is looking at horse camps too and those are all over $1000 for a week. :headache: Thinking I might just have to plan my own "home camp" at those prices.

momto1 - I'm loving the weather too! We leave for HHI in a little over 3wks and I can't wait!

nashtag - glad you might have found a better alternative for your DD!

disneynut - congrats on the new job!!

Stitchfans - hope things are going well for you!

Hi to everyone else!! Hope you're all enjoying this beautiful sunny weather!!

Well, have to get something for dinner and then pick DD8 up from dance. Have a great night all!

Sounds like you did good! :thumbsup2

I am jealous! ;)

id - "home camp" sounds good to me! Pay YOURSELF that money! Cha-ching!

Good morning everyone. Taking a break. Almost finished with cleaning everything out. Just have the garage which is a very big chore, but will have to wait until it gets a little warmer. Next comes the painting and actual cleaning. Many we had about 40 bags of stuff we donated to charity. So shocked we collected so much over the years.

ID: Home day camp sounds terrific.:thumbsup2 Thanks for asking about us. We are okay. Hanging in there. Just wish the guy who was doing the work on our home could start sooner. He won't be starting for a couple of weeks. He is visiting family in Florida right now. The sooner the work is done the sooner we can get the house appraised and on the market.

I am so nervous with the way the economy is the house won't sell in time for us to get DD settled in before school starts in the fall. At the end of the month we will be going out to Carrier Mills to take a look around. My cousin said that her DH's family is out there and owns quite a bit of land here and there. As a matter of fact one uncle owns three houses.

When we go we get to stay in one of the houses which is already furnished and all since another relative passed away and willed the house to the uncle. I guess he is doing so well he just keeps the house just for this purpose- family coming in for a visit. Lucky man.

My cousin is buying one of his other houses from him since her home in Florida did not sell for as much as they needed to build their cabin on the property they bought. She will be doing well having that one house, then the land with a cabin in the future. I guess her land is large enough for farming and animals because she already had her own small farm started.

That sounds so neat. A farm. Only thing is I would not be able to kill any of the animals. The chickens would be strictly for eggs, cow for milk, so on. As a matter of fact no doubt all of the animals would be named. It would have to be a very small farm though since I would not have the time to commit too much time to it since I will have to find a job once I get down there.

I plan on taking the CNA course and work as a CNA. My cousin says they are in need of them there. I have the experience. Just need the license. Always wanted to be a nurse but this will have to do.

Hope everyone is enjoying the sunshine. Have a great day everyone.

Hi everyone! :flower3: i have to be very quick b/c i have to get back to work. (don't want to be staying late on a friday) have any of you eaten at Liberty Tree Tavern? I just made a reservation for myself, dad, sis and fam, other sis and bil, and 4 friends of the family (12 of us total) for the saturday before the wedding. my sister really wanted to be in MK for spectromagic that night and mike is hanging with his family that day so i thought this might be fun. anybody know how far the parade route is from LTT? I can't place the route in my head? thanks :flower3:

Stitch ~ a farm sounds cool. :wizard: hoping your home sells quickly!

ID ~ home camp sounds like a great idea to me too!

momto1 ~ how was the band concert?

natasha ~ have you decided on definitely switching DD's school? hopefully the new school will be a better fit for her?

disneynut ~ sorry to hear about your job. hopefully you'll find a new one soon.

tigg, piglet, mac, slo, paint, leigh, and everyone else ~ :wave2: hope you all are doing well!

Good Morning all:)

What a long week. My manager scheduled a 2 1/2 hours meeting on top of a already long day. I left my house at 7:45 yesterday and didn't walk in the door until 10 last night. I feel bad, I haven't tt my dd since I dropped her off at school yesterday.:sad2: At least today will be a quick day 815-1:woohoo:

Disneygal- Liberty Tree is one of my favorites!! We have been there a handful of times. It's a family style Thanksgiving dinner. Yummy...I am thinking of adding it to our trip in June!

I am finally in planning stages to our first trip back to the world since 2007. My kids are super excited....just not as much as me!

This trip will be an inexpensive trip. Staying at All Star Movie and we opted for the base ticket too.

We are driving down, does anyone know if I can bring my son's mini fridge and use it in the room? I am hoping Disney will not have an issue with that.

Thank you all for the comments on my new job. It is great being back to work, after so long...it's really great having health insurance again!

I should get going...Have a great day everyone!!:cheer2:

Disneynut71 - How exciting! Have a great time on your trip. We also drove down for our most recent visit. I would think that since they have a fridge swap (are they still there?) that bringing your own wouldn't be a problem. Now I'm curious...going to the budget board to look!

Absolutely, fridge swaps are still around, so I would think bringing your own is much the same! :thumbsup2

Friends, could you please pray for, or keep my Mom in your thoughts? She has spent 10-1/2 of the last 13 days in the hospital, and is expected to spend another week, so far. She is not responding to treatment for collagenous colitis, and it's taking everything out of her - literally. She is totally IVd now, nothing by mouth, not even water, and has a port/pic for her meds, nutrition and blood draws. She hasn't eaten in days (even a liquid diet didn't work), and can't eat until 'this' stops, which could be days.(?) They want her body to stop 'doing what it's doing' - I don't know how else to say that in pleasant terms. ;) It all started on FEB 13th! The Drs just don't know why she isn't responding. :confused3 She hasn't lost her humor tho, thankfully, because we are a heartless, sick-humored family, and she laughs along with us. She just isn't getting better tho. :sad1:

Thank you for reading and any thoughts and/or prayers.
