Calling all Chicago DISers #3

Yikes - it's nasty outside!!! :cold:

Stephanie decided today to go to the bus stop in only her zip-up hoodie:eek:
She's at a point right now, where she thinks she knows everything, and I know nothing (I was like that too when I was younger), so when I see an arguement coming I just let it go. So that's what I did today, she said she would be warm enough, and I said, "okay, have a good day!!!". Well, she must of frooze her butt off and the bus stop, because she called me from a friends phone and asked me to bring her coat to school. I guess she learned her lesson, and knows now that a coat is necessary in the winter:rolleyes: So I took her coat to school, and the office lady laughed and said her son just recently did the same thing - goofy kids!!!!!:upsidedow

Tiiigggerrrnnnnnnnnnnn is right - my laptop at home is still on the fritz, and I"m not sure when we'll be getting it fixed :badpc::badpc: So many bills to pay this time of year, and I don't want to add to them with this computer. Thanks Tigg for keeping everyone posted about me :goodvibes:goodvibes

Stitchfans - Continued hugs and prayers for you and your entire family:grouphug::grouphug::grouphug: I'm so sorry to hear of the hospital staff treating you so poorly - SHAME ON THEM!!!!!!!:mad: I wish there was something I could do to help  Please continue to keep us posted - we are here for you!!!!:grouphug:
**Oh...did you find out what is waiting at the post office for you?

DG - I"m sorry to hear about you not getting the condo  I feel so bad for you  I'm positivie there's a better condo out there waiting for you to find it:wizard::wizard: Keep us posted!!!!!

To everyone else - :wave2:

I gotta get back to work - I have alot to get done today
Have a good day everyone!!!

I believe it was about a year ago when I posted the very same thing about Jon. One of the wiser dissers - maybe Mac - who had been there done that told me "you don't see frozen teenagers standing by the side of the road". That is now my mantra.

Lori

Hi!!

Sorry to hear how stinky the weather there is!!
It's been cold here too. It's been snowing in the mountains. I should take a picture to show you all. And on Monday it rained like crazy here in the valley while it snowed in the mountains.

Over the weekend DD's choir performed at a Christmas fest at one of the state parks near our home. The kids did a great job. They performed several songs from Polar Express and then some traditional holiday music. Many school choirs showed up and her school had the largest group. They all did a great job. It was really cold and windy though and one group had the girls dressed in fancy dresses with no sleeves!!! You could tell by their faces they were freezing and NOT happy!!
DD's choir performs tomorrow night at her school for all the students and families.

Susan  All of this must be so difficult for you to take in. I hope there is someone that you can talk to once your Dh is out of the hospital that will help both of you. Have you called your insurance to see how the cover this? I would try, even though it is hard, to not worry too much about the hospital bills right now. The hospital can work on a payment plan with you if the insurance isn't covering.
Last winter my DH was here in Vegas for 5 months taking care of his parents while I was at home with the kids. I had to help my DD with an Indian project she had to do and I thought that there was no way she was going to get a good grade with me helping her. We had to build a whole Indian village scene from scratch! No pre-made materials or models. We did it and it came out great! She actually got an A.
Maybe if you look online for some instructions on what your DD needs to build that would help. I've seen them in the past so I'm sure there must be something online that would help you construct it.

hersey Did you call your tv co. to see what's up?

paint Regarding your ex: don't you love how some guys can be so abrasive and make the situation totally worse!!! UGH! :headache:
I hope your son is feeling better soon! And that you and your DD don't catch whatever he has!!!!!!!!!!!

slo I hope Steph learned her lesson!!!
You should see the kids around here!!! It has been cold here and some of them are wearing no coats, and some have shorts on still!!!!! Some adults are still walking around in shorts and tee shirts too!!....and it's been in the 30's and 40's here!!

I told DS I'd bring him lunch today from his new favorite fast food place. So I better shuffle off to do some work first.
:wave2:

Hey all! It is freezing here. I HATE winter!:mad:The wind is whistling so loud through the doors/windows. I think we need plastic wrap for the whole house. I need to go to the front door and stuff the towels back in between the outer door and the house door. The outer door is pretty cheap and lets a lot of cold air blow in (and snow-that's special). That project got put off til next year on account of decreased funds. Now I am so sad we waited.
Bunchkin, would love to see some pix now. I remember how pretty they looked this summer. I'll trade your above zero rain for this muck any time!;)
Slo, glad to hear your DD now knows how smart you are!:flower3:Funny how that happens.
Stitch, hang in there.
Paint, :wizard:good luck on those finals. And :wizard::wizard:to your DS so he gets better fast.
hersey, sure hope you get that tv up and operational. I hate it when there is no TV.
Hi momto1 and princesschelle and everyone I missed. I have to get the kids a bite to eat. We unfortunately need to go back out in this awful stuff for DS school music program. I think hot cocoa, a warm fuzzy blanket, Christmas shows and a couch sounds much more appealing!
To all our Northern friends, stay safe, stay warm, and stay well.!!!

Crissup- Sounds like a fun city day! I had planned on going to the German market, but we haven't gotten around to it yet. Have you been?

No, I'm not familiar with that. There's a ton of stuff that I either haven't done, or haven't done in years.

Hi everyone! Hope you are all managing to stay warm. Today is a day off of work, I had planned on doing the outside lights, but that is not happening.

Hi guys! BRRRRR!! Yikes it's cold out there, especially at 5:45am! :cold: Only one more day of 6:15a mass and I'm sure DD12 is just as happy as I am to have it be finished. Poor thing is pretty wiped, it's been a busy week with volleyball and play tryouts along with homework and the very early alarm.

Yesterday I did a big all day cooking event. I made 8 casseroles, two containers of mashed potatoes and 2 cakes. I found website about once a month cooking and thought I'd give it a try although I didn't do a full month worth of food, figured I'd start slow. Need to clean out and organize the freezer today to fit it all in.

Not much else going on around here. Need to get in gear with Christmas shopping, going to do some online stuff today.

piglet - yikes! I wouldn't do outside lights today either! Stay inside and keep warm!

Tiggerrn - I HATE winter too!! DH asked me again last night about moving south, lol. Our windows today are completely covered with condensation.

Bunchkin - at this point I think I'd take 30s-40s over the single digit temps and below zero wind chills. The mountains must look beautiful though.
*By the way, I saw kids by the high school yesterday with shorts on! They did have coats but shorts?! It was WAY too cold, windy and snowy for that.

slo - glad Stephanie learned her lesson, at least it wasn't today she was trying to wear just a hoodie!

Stitchfans - continued :hug: for you, DH and DD.
*What a pain in the neck project! I agree though to look on the internet for help, you'd be amazed at what you can find out there on the worldwide web! Maybe even something on youtube.

paint - good luck on your final today and hope DS is feeling better soon! I hope you and DD don't catch whatever he has!
*I went to the German market downtown last year with DD12s girl scout troop. It is very cute and I'd love to go again sometime. The night we went it was FREEZING so I don't think we enjoyed as much as we could have though.

Hersey - how's the TV working today? FIL used to have problems with snow blocking his reception.

momto1 - hope you're holiday party was fun. Wow, bonus checks! DH hasn't seen one of those for a few years now, darn economy. ;)
*We went to a presentation on Trinity High School with DD12 the other night, I can't believe it's almost here either - yikes I'm not ready!

Well, I need to get my laundry load in and get the freezer ready for my stash of food. Tonight is dance, volleyball game and I teach. Hope everyone stays safe and warm today! :santa:

I just thought I'd pop in & say "Hi" -- I was reading all the "brrr..it's cold" posts & I concur.

It's way too cold for my tastes....I'm thinking low 80's would be good, although if we had that in December, I would be :confused3

I love the line about not seeing frozen teenagers standing on the side of the road, that's hilarious.

Tonight we find out if DD got a part in the school musical...I'm doubting it because they have some really good singers & she isn't in Varsity choir. Usually the parts go to the kids in Varsity choir. We shall see. Of course, it's Sweeney Todd, so I really don't care because I don't really want to see it anyway...and if she gets a part, that means I have to go see at least one performance. :lmao:

Anyone here have kids that have done Theatre Fest by the way? DD is going to that & this is a first year for it...always good to get heads up information.

Other than that just dealing with middle school wrestling. I swear it looks like the kids are going to snap each other's necks....SO not good for a mom's heart to watch this particular sport. I thought gymnastics was bad -- this is worse. :scared1: Although, Aaron is loving it & says he wants to do it again next year, we shall see if he says that again when it's time to sign up.

I hope everyone has a good day.

I guess we are ALL idiot parents here! :rolleyes1  Kids!

Wow, my house isn't insulated very well. Seems like the heat is going on way too much. Last night it seemed like it was going on every ten minutes or so. I know we need new windows, and such, but wow. DH is still in the hospital. No new news there, I guess. This weekend DD and I will work on her bridge project. Just hanging in there and trying to "hang tough" as the saying goes.
Hope everyone else is fine and keeping warm.

Quickei before work. Afterwards, I am picking up the kids and heading up to the 'burbs to have dinner with some family, then an early morning flight! Ds did not have strep and is feeling better. He did well on his strep test, too. No problems! Should be a busy one at work, so I need to get in early and start setting up. Stay warm, take care, and I will be back with lots of pics to share!pirate:

Hi guys! TGIF!! Yipee, no more 5:20a alarm! :thumbsup2 DD12 did get a bag of Skittles from her principal for serving 6:15a mass for the week.

Don't have anything planned for tonight, going to have pizza and watch Christmas movies I think.

paint - have a GREAT trip!! Kind of jealous, would love to be going to WDW now.......

Stitchfans - keeping you in my prayers.

Becky - I think the wrestling would make me nervous too. My friend's son is also wrestling and she doesn't like it much either.

small vent - working off my kids' Christmas lists they had typed in the computer I ordered some things online today. Well, DD8 just "edited" her list and printed a new one to mail to Santa and she took off one of the things I already ordered! Ugh!

Well, I'm off to pre-heat the oven. Hope everyone is staying warm! Have a great night! :santa:

Yep,that happened to me, too, last week! Must be the age! But, then Jon added a whole bunch of snowboarding stuff to his list. Huh? Why do you need a $400 snowboard? I don't think so...

Lori

I think I must have gotten off easy Alex only had 3 things on his list. No editting. I always told Alex Santa needs his list by Thanksgiving so the elves have pently of time to make the toys. ;) Now it is habit and plus Mom and Dad need to know what we are in for :rolleyes1

I am glad we are out of the deep freeze. It is already 25 degrees :woohoo:

My satelite box was the cluprit they are fedexing me one. I hope to get it today. It is not to bad living with out the tv in the living room. We are watching DVD's and listening to the radio.

Hope everyone has a great weekend

Paint I know I missed you but try and have fun in WDW. I know it will be difficult.

So, if I thought it was cold here, I was in Minneapolis looking at an art school there Thursday and Friday. It was 2 degrees outside Friday. I was freezing. The only shoes I have are Converse, not such good winter shoes. I really need a pair of something else. I'm still unsuccessfully trying to find Christmas presents for everyone on my list. My brother and I "went shopping online" for each other together the other night. It was basically me showing him what I want and him writing it down and visa versa. It was some quality brother/sister bonding time =) Anyway, I'm off to the gym for the first time in forever because I really want to get back in shape. There's 98 school days till I graduate and I'm determined to feel great for graduation! Stay warm everybody!

Stitchfans - :grouphug: I'm not exactly sure what your husband is feeling but I can sort of tell you this. I've been on both sides of the suicide story, both your husbands and yours, so I can see where you both are coming from. Sometimes, despite one knowing that people love them and knowing that one loves them, one feels like they a drain on them, even though its not true. One thinks because one is not contributing their part or not living up to some expectation that one is not good enough and those one loves would be better off without. And while one may think it is being selfless, they don't see how selfish they are being. They can't always see how much it will hurt and destroy those who are left behind. That's something I learned when my friend committed suicide. Keep telling your husband how much you miss him and love him and how much he means to you and stand by him. I'm sure you are already doing this but I really couldn't say enough how much that matters to someone in his position.
As for the geometry project, I had to do something similar in 8th grade, as extra credit with balsa wood. I had part of my extended family working on it with me on Christmas (2 doctors, 3 grad students, and me). I still didn't get mine to hold much. The more triangle the better, I think, don't quote me on that. It's got something to do with how triangles spread the weight...Sorry it's been 4 years and I can't even remember 4 days ago that well. I hope it turns out well!
paintnolish-That's an awesome idea! I'll keep that in mind. Hope your last final went well and your trip is amazing!
momto1-Trust me, in the end, buying your own snowboarding equipment will pay off in the end. I've got about $700 in gear. If you think about this way, it was $40 for the board, boots, and bindings every time I went. I was going about twice a month for four months, $320 in rental fees I could have been paying. This year I won't go as much but it will eventually pay for itself and you'll start seeing savings. If you want to save on equipment wait till the end of the season or see if anyone has last season stuff in stock still, usually they sell it cheaper then this seasons. Having my board is amazing because I don't have to get used to a rental boards feel every time out or wait in that line. =)

Hello, anybody there? LOL. Hope all are doing well, I'm sure you're all busy with life and such especially with the holidays quickly approaching.

Everyone's backs are covered, went to mass this morning. It was the day to turn in the gifts for the giving tree and you should have seen the amount of gifts! They were piled knee high and higher around the entire arc of the altar with only three small openings. It was wonderful to see such generosity.

Happy Hanukkah to those celebrating!

Busy weekend here with service hours, more play try-outs, DNiece bday party, shopping, etc.

MJ - yikes those temps in Minneapolis are crazy! Brrr!

Hersey - hope you got your new satelite box and glad that it wasn't anything more serious.

Stitchfans - hope things are going better for you, keeping you all in my thoughts.

:wave2: to everyone else! Hope you're all enjoying the break in the weather.

Well, the dryer just buzzed so I'm going to go fold that and get things ready for the morning. Have a great night all! :santa:

DH said he is to be discharged today. Waiting for phone call to pick him up. Solved the problem with the bridge project. Emailed her teacher for help and he had me drop her off earlier than normal today so he could help her. Crossing fingers that all goes well and nothing else negative is thrown my way. We are even getting a "tropical heatwave" heard it may hit 41. :yay:

All the way up to 41!? Many more hugs for you Susan. I hope today goes smoothly, as well as the next few days at home.
