could you please do me a big favor and post a photo, preferably one with leafless or twiggy bushes or trees in it? i seem to get odd colors and fuzziness with mine and want to see if anyone else has these problems with that lens as well
Thanks
20070415020copy.jpg

this looks too purple and the branches seem to be blurred around the edges to me..the rest of the photo is fine, the histogram doesn't show anything wrong with exposure, the exif data is f8 1/125 iso 100 which probably is a little low for the overcast day but it's not underexposed according to histogram, could probably be brightened a little but didn't want to mess with it much since i want to compare to other photos, not really editing.

All my tree's have leaves now, but I'll see what I can do. I think a neighbor has a dead tree :)

I'll go look...

Nope. NOne with that lens. not even any with my current cam.
sorry

Mikeeee

I am not sure if I have any of twigs or bare trees either - but I will look after I get home from work. I am heading out in a few minutes.

I am sitting here looking at your photo and I don't see purple. I see brownish black - but not any purple.

Does anyone else see purple?

Just a question cause it has made a HUGE difference for me - but have you ever or recently calibrated your monitor?

I am not trying to give you a hard time or pick on you. That is the last thing I would do - I honestly just don't see what you see.

don't worry Jen i don't feel picked on just annoyed with this lens:lmao: i have calibrated my monitor. i don't know if i could post it since i have to convert to jpg to post but espe if i zoom in there is a definite blurry purplish edge to anything like a tree branch..i have to do some research and see if i can find anything about it online.
thinking it might have something to do with the contrast plus the small detail naturally looks fuzzier . i just thought is anyone had a photo i could compare and see if it's my lens or just this lens in general. i've had enough of sending it back so i probably will just sell it unless it's something i can fix in pp.

i just posted a new comparison on that other is this photoshoppable thread that shows it really well if anyone wants to see i really am not crazy:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

If you are seeing a purple fringe on the edge of a high contrast area then you have what is called as "purple fringing". Its a real term, look it up on wikipedia so you don't feel alone. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Purple_fringing

I won't pretend that I understand the optics of it, other than it has to do with chromatic aberration where different wave lengths of light focus differently. Some lenses are better dealing with chromatic abberation than others. In some situations you are going to get CA no matter what lens you use and if you zoom in close enough.

As you probably know, I have this lens and loved it when it was just this and the kit lens. Then I got 85mm f/1.8 and the 10-22mm and now I just like that lens instead of love it.

I would only worry about the purple fringing if it is easily visible with out zooming in.

i was reading about ca and it seems like it is more prevalent at wide angles which is basically what i need this lens for so i might be following suit and getting something else. i have every thing over 50mm covered with something else...( well i have the kit as well) bob q found a few programs to fix it and linked them for me but it still is somewhat noticeable. i think it is worse than when i first got the lens so don't know if canon could fix it again but i'm kind of tired of messing with it...maybe i'll look up some reviews and see if it's know for bad fringing.....what is the ca like with the 10-22?
