Which bass guitar type (fender, ibanez, warwick, etc) do you recommend, how many strings, and why?

I'm gathering information about bass guitars since my parents are letting me get one! ( )

Fender 4 String.

Actually I don't know much about Bass Guitars. I just like Fender the best, and a 4 string is the traditional so yeah.

Although I do have to say, Gibson Les Paul > All

i'm definitely stickin with the 4 string... there's no way i could do the 9 string....

yea i've been considering Fender.. but then there's Sterling
both are considered good..

i just need to settle on a budget....
that'd def. help....

There's also 12 strings.

lol, my hands are def. not that big.. there's no freakin way possible that i'd be able to learn how to play a 12 string

Well once you buy one, good luck. Bass isn't like guitar where it takes years and years of practice to get really good. You can become a good Bass player in like, a year.

Bass is also, well, the base to almost all sounds in a rock band.

Alsoooooooooooooooo...

There is a shortage of Bass players today. If you become a good bass player, you shouldn't have too much trouble finding a band.

I've worked iwth a lot of local bands, and bass players are seriously needed.

before finding a guitar, you've got to know what you want to play.

I'm a fan of fender. Fenders are great, but like mike said, gibson les paul are the best.

I'd go with four strings. from my experience, those are the easiest to learn on.

Do you already know how to play guitar? if you do, hte transition from electric or acoustic to bass should be easier then learning on a bass.

and hte only other advice that I have is practice until your fingers bleed, get a band aid, then practice some more.

you can get really good at bass in 6 months to a year, depending on how much you play.

good luck!

that's my bass :) It's an Ibanez.. hooked up to an amp it sounded way better than a fender... now this is just my start out bass.... hehe

thanks!
the guys at the music store happened to mention, as they were ringing up the major purchase, that bass players were needed but most bands were looking for girl bass players so if i ever wanted to play gigs (heck yes) that i'd have no problem finding a job...

Fender P-Bass (4-string). This is a good bass if you're a beginner. A cheaper route would be a Squier P-Bass pack which come with the guitar along with an amp. I play a Squier and have no problems with it.
