Callifornia Grill question?

Thank you

We will be getting married off property but not finalised where exactly yet! We want to do an Illuminations or Wishes cruise (or whatever the equivalent might be by then!) so will do an early evening meal first at CG :) :goodvibes

Here's another endorsement for Ron! We've been to the CG several times, and have asked for him each time. Best service we've received at any restuarant! And we've never had a bad meal there.

Happy to read all the positive experiences - DH & I are celebrating our 20th anniversary at CG in September. We spent the very same night (9/21) there on the first night of our honeymoon!!! :)

Wow, this thread has really made me feel better about my ADR on August 19th. I live really close to Disney but have never eaten at the CG. I have been wanting to eat there for quite awhile now but because of the price I was saving it for a special occasion. And my birthday is in August so I called about a month ago and could only get an ADR for 9pm, but at least I will be there for wishes.
I have been debating my choice of CG since I made it because I have read some negative reviews. However, after reading such positive experiences as I have read here I am so glad that I decided on CG. I will take pictures and post them after I go. :lovestruc

CG is a must for us EVERY trip! We will be there this year for our 17th anniversary. We also think Ron is great! He introduced us to the joys of SUSHI!

para-Congrats to you and your 20th! That is soooo cool that you are going again on the eact date you did on your honeymoon! Hopefully Scrap Vamp will be able to dine there in 2029 for HER 20th weddining anniversary!

Nice to hear so many great things about Ron!

I've eaten there over a dozen times. It's not bad by any means, and has gotten much better since they instituted the second floor check-in policy and began somewhat enforcing the dress code.

At any rate, the food has been generally good to great, and the service has ranged from so-so to great. The atmosphere had gotten to the point that it was just ridiculous with people coming up only to see the fireworks, but that problem has been resolved, and it's now a lot quieter and more civilized.

We definitely prefer Citrico's and Blue Zoo.

Anne

please dont think this is stupid, or flame me. I dont mind the plane ride, aisle seat, but can not stand looking out any window above 3 floors if I am 10 feet from it, far back is better( no, we wont be doing coasters either)
can we get a seat not by the window, or .....i dont know the layout of the CG, but somewhere "safer" in the middle?
just wanted to know, it is our only high up ressie, do I ask when we get there, or ....will a CM already have us in a planned area or....
any help would be appreciated. :confused3

I have been 4 times. The first time I went they comped the entire meal. It was that bad...from the moment we "checked in," to the moment we left. IMO the food is mediocre and hit or miss. I've had much better meals on and off disney property. I do suggest you try it yourself though. You'd be the best critic.

Just curious you sound as if you had a horrid experience. What was it that made you return 3 other times?

Yankeepenny, there are many seats away from the windows. I would think a request like that would be welcome---most everyone else will be asking for the window seats.

When is the best time to request a server? When you make your ressies or when you check in... or both?

Just curious! :teeth:

I have read some pretty mixed reviews of the CG on allearsnet. Some say it was the best they had on property and some say the worst. Some are saying they weren't treated right because of dining plan. I really want this night to be special. We are celebrating our 25th anniversary and CG seemed like a wonderful place to have a romantic dinner and watch the fireworks. Any info would be helpful. :tink:

Oh my goodness, you will LOVE LOVE LOVE it! It is THE perfect place to celebrate.
First of all, be sure to stress the fact that you will be there celebrating this milestone in your life- I can assure you that when they know you're celebrating, they are ESPECIALLY friendly! I've been to CG quite a few times and NEVER once ever had a bad experience. I always look forward to going back.
That restaurant is the epitomy of the Disney spirit. It's magical and beautiful and it's Disney as you've never seen it-especailly if you are planning on watching the Fireworks there! That is something I truly feel everyone should do atleast once. I can go on and on about this restaurant b/c it is certainly one of the highlights of my trips, but then I'll have a mile long post. It is BY FAR my favorite restaurtant, not only on Disney property, but on this planet! I plan on going again during my trip in October, which reminds me, I have to make those ADR's! Oh dear!
Anyway, there is no better place on Disney property to celebrate your very special occasion!
And congratulations on the longevity of your marriage, and many many more years to you both! :lovestruc
