I called Disney Travel, and dining to ask about Chef's menu changes if they were temp for free dining. When speaking with the CM about it his exact words were WHAT :earseek:. He was shocked and couldnt believe it. He asked where I got to see the new menu and I said Allears.net. He said that is one of his favorite places, and usually their menus are very accurate and up to date. He said he uses allears to find a place he would like to dine at when he goes to the parks. He asked me to hang on then he went and looked it up for himself and he said it he kept saying WHAT, and appologizing. I said don't be sorry this is not your fault. He said he could NOT believe they had a burger on it, and that last he went he had the fillet. I said yes that is what we were interested in trying was the fillet and the duck. He said he couldnt just go on my word alone, but he was going to send this report in to the higher up's but he was right there with me in agreeance and slyly said wink wink that he did believe me, but couldnt say he was just sending it in cause I had called. He was very shocked to see a flank steak and fries. I had called to ask about whether coral reef would be a better one to change to and he said NO, that don't get him wrong he likes Coral Reef, but food quality wise he thought Chef's was better. I have not changed my Chef's yet and DFI says just leave it like it is, but I explained about the reviews I had and what if we do not like it, but he had a good point on what if we changed and did not like Coral Reef. I am going to think on it a bit more before changing it. The CM also said while yes the menu changes seasonally that usually it only pertains to seafood which like alaskan salmon and such is seasonal so it may rotate, but things like fillets and duck no. Hopefully they will change it back. :bride: :groom:

It's interesting to find a CM who knows that much about the details, and even though he did, as you can see, he's really not in a position to know any more than we know, here on the DIS. That sort of thing takes place beyond his pay grade. :rotfl:

Can you change to Bistro instead?

If I recall correctly, Lostgirlz is on the Dining Plan, and Bistro de Paris does not participate on the Dining Plan.

I cancelled our adr to Chefs this morning. I booked Kona Cafe, the reviews seemed better. I was disappointed, I really wanted to try Chefs. But due to picky eaters, bad reviews and changed menu I thought it would be best.

Wow, we must have the same thoughts. I also switched from Chefs to Kona today. Personally, I would still like to try Chefs despite the $23 hamburger but my two picky teens don't want to. Sigh.... :sad2:

Yes, we have the dining plan for our upcoming trip, but we are not basing where to go on only who takes the plan. We figured since this is our first trip and our honeymoon we will go to the places we would like to try, and if need be we will pay oop. We are doing oop for all breakfasts Char ones, CRT, Bomas, raglen road, and so forth. We will use the plan, but we are not going to limit ourselves to only what's allowed on the plan. I figure better to just have a grand time our first trip and honeymoon. I feel it is more important to have a wonderfull honeymoon and enjoy the magic of being at Disney for the first time without stressing out over if they only take the dining plan. :bride: :groom:

Us too. And I really hated to do it, as Chef's was one of our favorites last year, but DH is not happy about the menu change and insisted. So we are going to Kona instead.

I had just looked at the Chefs menu a few days ago and was very dissapointed with the changes. We have really come to enjoy Chefs and it is on our itinerary every year but for next year's trip I'm really thinking about replacing it. I'm sure the menu will change before then (and hopefully for the better) but if the hamburger and flank steak remain we are out.

If these changes are a result of the DDP it's a shame - I'd rather see more limitations placed on the plan than to penalize those paying out of pocket. A huge part of our WDW experience is the dining and the changes lately have been dissapointing.

As a side note - when we visited Le Cellier last fall they had just taken the rib eye off the menu - the waiter hoped it would be back on with the next menu revision but no such luck. I think it is forever gone...and that was DH's favorite meal in Epcot...another example of "dumbing down" the menus....

It might not be all bad. The Flanksteak with Shallot sauce is a very typical French Bistro dish, and if it's cooked properly it has much more flavour than Fillet steak. Saying that I have seen some bad reviews of this dish from people that have been recently.

The 'burger' (Steak Hache) is also a traditional French Bistro dish.

The menu is still authentic French food, so as long as the cooking is good then I don't see what the problem is.

what changes to the menu? :confused3 where can I find these changes??

I know that lunch was added at Chef Mickey's for a limited time and the menu was different then the normal dinner meal.

So clue me in, please!! :p

With all the changes in both menus and service pretty soon it won't matter which restuarant anyone chooses the food will all be the same, which it seems as if WDW is trying to do albeit just a little at a time.

Sounds crazy, but, then again, they've done this exact same thing to all their gift shops. :sad2:

I agree - each restaurant will have one or two "signature" dishes and then standard offerings across the board. I remember a few years ago when each restaurant was a truly unique experience.

Having said that the food at WDW is still not your average theme park fare - it blows most other amusement venues out of the water....

I disagree. The menus are still quite unique, one from the next. Pick any two World Showcase restaurants and there isn't a single dish that is exactly the same between the two. Just because two dishes have the same kind of meat in them doesn't make them the same dish!

I have the recent changes between old and new menus at Le Cellier and Chefs de France in an Excel file at home. I'll try to remember to upload it later today.
