called akl re: refrigerators

My family and I will be staying at AKL 9/19 - 9/26. I was reading other threads saying that the deluxes were adding refrigerators to the rooms, so I called AKL directly today and the girl who answered the phone said she knew nothing about it, and that if I wanted a refrigerator, I would have to call central housekeeping and pay $10/day for it. (Quite frankly, she wasn't at all pleasant!) So I guess I'm wondering, has anyone else called and been told otherwise recently???

Hmmm.... I called yesterday and spoke with the AKL front desk. They told me that they were working on getting refrigerators in all rooms (free) but may not have finished that task by the time we check in. If our room didn't have one, we could call hskpg and they would send one up...FREE.

Ok, so I call today and try to get one added to my upcoming WL ressie for free. The CM tells me it will be $10 no matter what.... Grrr!

We were at POFQ 2 weeks ago ( I know a moderate) I had read on the boards that fridges were going in free. I called resort and was told if one wasn't there when we arrived call down and get it FREE. Of course it wasn't there. I called front desk and she told me she would have to charge me $10 per nite I said NO!! ( not that loud of course ) I explained they were supposed to be free as of AUG 16th. Needless to say, they brought one up and I didn't get charged. Be persistent.

I called the Poly and the girl didn't know anything - said she hadn't heard a thing about any frigs. being put in mod. and deluxes. She acted like I was pulling this "rumor" out of thin air.

I asked her if she would check with someone. She seemed put out, however, she put me on hold (very briefly, I wonder if she really talked to someone) she comes back on, says "no frigs being put into the rooms".

I asked if there was a manager or someone I could speak to and she said "Do you want to talk to the front desk?" Huh? I thought she was at the front desk. She must have been the switchboard operator. So who was she "asking" when she put me on hold if it wasn't the front desk????

Anyhow I said, yes I'd like the front desk. I didn't even need to ask for the manager, the girl I got at the front desk knew right away what I was talking about and said yes the resorts were getting the refrigerators and they would be free. She seemed really surprised when I said the first girl didn't know anything about it.

You can't take just one (uninformed) person's word for it. I have spoken to several CM's at the reservation center and there is a notice they all received (which some may or may not have read) advising them that refrigerators are being put into all mods and deluxes. It's just a matter of whether your resort has them installed by the time you go.

We just returned from 8 nights at AKL. Requested a refrigerator and there was no charge for it. It was very handy!

She was quite clear that fridges are going into all the Moderate and Deluxe resorts as standard features, and that if there wasn't one in yet, as they're being phased in (can you IMAGINE how many fridges that's going to be!!!), we just ask and get it free.

You can bet I'll be persistant. $10 a day adds up fast, and it's a must for us with DD#2 - Meredith's allergic to milk, and I need to have rice milk for her.

In fact, when I talk to the restaurants about it for our PS's, I'll be finding out if I need to bring it for her myself. I'm hoping they'll get some on hand with the advance notice, but she really needs it, and she can have all the regular foods if they use it (pancakes, French toast, cereal...). There's more to a meal than sausages!

I've heard that Disney is unparalleled in supporting people with food allergies, so I'm very upbeat about this. But I'm definitely bringing some to keep in our FREE fridge! (along with a bunch of other munchies and snacks to tide us over)

Now begins the campaign for standard MICROWAVES in every room!!!

My TA suggested that I wait until check-in before requesting a fridge ... she said she couldn't guarantee that I wouldn't be charged for it if I made a request ahead of time. Maybe I'll send her another e-mail now that so many DIS'ers are requesting them

When I read the first "free fridge" thread, I contacted my DU TA and she checked for me. She said I would have one at no charge for both AKL and WL. I'll pay if I need to but will definitely do what I can to get it free.

I was at POFQ Jun 24 - 27 and requested a fridge and was told the fee was $10 per night, but on my bill the charges never showed up so I guess it is free even for moderate resort.
