January 19 is being called upon as a National Day of Service. (gasp)
Activities will take place around the country. There are events available for Saturday the 17 and the 18 also.
These acts of charity can of course be offered all year long.

I am thinking of donating blood, though I am still looking over the events in my area to see if I can do more. Imagine if everyone, at once, did something for their community, city, state and country? :thumbsup2

Do you have plans? If you can't do anything that day, do you think it may motivate you to do more throughout the year?

yes I will be answering that call :thumbsup2
I am cooking dinner with some kids I tutor at a local home.
These children our wonderful and I love spending time with them.

If you enter your zip code it will direct you to events in the area..I can go to Sloan Kettering in NY..or a local nursing home or animal shelter..I am loving this idea!

Our family decided to start the year out right by making January a month of service!

On a local level, we are volunteering in a nursing home. This is so rewarding!!!! It's a win-win for everyone.

On a global level, I committed to finding sponsors for 24 children living in poverty who are in the Compassion International program.

(Here are their pictures! http://childsponsorchat.blogspot.com/) I have three sponsored so far! :)

Hey I am tapping a vein too!LOL-I donated between Thanksgiving and Christmas So I should be good.

I"ll give blood on my lunch hour..no problem!

How wonderful. Can't do it. Tattoos.

BUT...we will be donating our time at a shelter. BOTH my son and I.

It's a holiday. Great way to get the kiddies involved since they're not in school.

It is getting harder and harder to give blood.I almost got booted for being in England-but I missed the mad cow time line.

Huh? I have 3 tattoos, I have given blood fairly recently.
The only time i couldnt donate blood was when i returned from Kuwait in 91.
I had to wait for 1 year.

I got my last one a few months ago.

You cannot give blood within a specified amount of time. Last time I went it was a year I believe.

We're working with a crew of others to spiff up an 'adult day care' run by a charity. :thumbsup2

My donations are in the form of contributing to the economy. We're going to Pismo Beach as they need tourists this time of year.

(Besides, I already raise money for Children's Hospital of Orange County regularly, I fed the homeless and I played Santa.) I'm good NOT doing something charitable one day this year.

Hmmm, not too much stuff outstanding happening in my neighborhood.

Although, we have so many "service days" in our neck of the woods that it wouldn't surprise me that this one wouldn't be on our radar as much.

I gave blood at my synagogue's blood drive 2 weeks ago, so I'm out for donating again.

We arranged a large electronics "e-waste" drive to recycle old computers, tvs, etc. in the Fall.

We had a "Clean up the Parks" day in the fall as well (hard to plant new plants through the ice this time of year).

Good idea though.
