Call me crazy....

dvc is the way to go

I second, no..third that. You could buy enough points to "live" there for weeks, all while being a bus ride away with someone taking care of all the maintenance issues and even cleaning up your room! You could get a 1 or 2 bedroom with a full kitchen and your own washer and dryer. Love DVC!!

DVC is great for some, but not if you consider retiring there some day. Or possibly spending weeks and weeks and months in Orlando in the future. Also, you have to assume that resale of a home in 20-30 years from now will be more profitable than getting a re-sale on the DVC. Also, mortgage interest is tax deductable and I don't think timeshare interest is, am I correct? DVC is still a big risk with the yearly main fees that climb up. If you are in the $$ position to buy a home for a song and dance, now is the time to do it IMO. If I could, I would be buying my retirement estate in Hawaii right now. The real estate market has not tanked there as bad as some places, but it has dipped. After being there as often as we have, my wife and I plan to head there to retire.

I'm a realtor in south florida (my family owns their own firm), the prediction is for condos to fall an additional 10-15% this yr. Other than that, right now is the time to buy.

A loan secured by deeded real estate is deductible - even a timeshare.

That said, I think financing a timeshare is not a wise move - but that is entirely different discussion.
