DH doesn't know what he's agreed to! We're heading to WDW Dec 29-Jan 2. Booked GF, have ADRs at restaurants he likes, but he isn't much of a Disney fan and I don't want to tell him how bad it will be on NYE.:scared:

Dessert party already booked for Dec 30 and 31st (I would have booked in January if I had know we were going to do this, but just yesterday our vacation plans fell through and this is what we have replaced it with).

Should I just plan on arriving at MK at 8am with a good book and an adult diaper and camp out on a bench with a view of the castle?

Lol. Think I would both love you and hate you if you were my wife!! But overall, I'd still be delighted...

DH is bringing his golf clubs so I won't be expecting him to accompany me to the parks--except for 12/31.
Bribed him with golf, fine dining, and a big suitcase full of guilt since it is his fault we had to cancel our posh European cruise for this September.

Love it! Think he will have an amazing time! Sounds like a top weekend. And I love your username, btw!

By all means, stay clear of watching youtube videos of what it's like at NYE at WDW then . . .:rotfl2:

Seriously, I'm considering booking a 2 night getaway ourselves 12/30 - 1/1 just to experience the craziness . . .:thumbsup2 We'd stay at BC or YC and do the preview of NYE MK on 12/30 but do 12/31 at Epcot . . .there is no way DH can be "dry" all day long on NYE . . .:rotfl: DH came home from work today and asked if I made the final arrangments . . .I'm still considering it, our NYE at home has gotten quite boring since our kids are now doing their own thing . . .:sad1:

Ok then.

You're crazy.

:p

I think it will be awesome ... heaving but awesome!

ooh good point Wish . . . a "dry" NYE. That sounds bad. I am not a rule breaker by nature, but this sounds like a perfect time for a Rum Runner plastic flask strapped to my waist and a bulky coat!

MK on 12/30 and Epcot on 12/31 is looking better and better. I suspect the queue for the champagne in France will rival Soarin' :lmao:

Dessert party shouldn't be available yet I thought? September just opened up a couple days ago so the days are kind of listed (I know the 30th and 31st its greyed out but I would be more surprised if they didn't have the party). So I suspect sometime in November for December dessert party?

Anyway if it makes you feel better about dragging DH I am dragging my non-theme park going DM with me to MK on the 31st. This is goign to be a NYE neither of us are going to forget for a while. Though she knows the crowds are going to be bad (I have all ready tell her and Dad twice now, that yes we need to be there the day before or else its going to be hard to get in).

Exactly! Although I do prefer the 6.00 little bottles of Sutter Home at the Fife & Drum Tavern . . .accompanied by a few margaria's :thumbsup2

I did NYE once at MK in 1996. Now it was one of my first trips so I didn't have any experience of the joy of low season. But I was 19 or so with a group of friends. And I remember it being busy. But most of all I remember seeing the most amazing fireworks ever. They stick in my mind. We didn't camp out all day for a spot. One hour or so before we found a spot on thr bridge to tomorrowland. It wasn't perfect. But we were right under the fireworks. I loved it. Still one of the best fireworks ever. Right after the fireworks ended we ran back into Tomorrowland and got on Space mountain with no wait. Everyone else was leaving the park and we kept going. Oh to have the energy like that again!

Knowing what I know now. I wouldn't do it again. But it is a favorite memory. Enjoy!

Luckily I have been to WDW plenty and my DH doesn't mind (read doesn't really care) if he misses some attractions. Not sure what our plan will be, but we're coming off a cruise and will have our golf clubs so maybe we'll catch a few rounds of golf--at least the links shouldn't be as crowded as the parks!

I went last year, it was busy, well it was beyond busy it was packed. All the rides had v.long lines even Haunted Mansion was over an hour for most of the day.

We got our spot about 3 hours before the fireworks and stayed put. The wait wasn't too bad and the fireworks, well they were nothing short of incredible.

Would I do it again? Well crowds don't really bother me so I would consider it if I had the money.

The only down side though was getting out of the park we stayed in MK til around 1am thinking that we would let the masses escape before us. But there were more people than we'd thought who had the same idea and it still took us over an hour to get back to the hotel. By that time we were all absolutely exhausted. And we had to be up ealry the next morning for our flight home, although I wasn't hungover with MK being a dry park that morning I felt terrible, I slept for all 9 hours on that flight home!

We've never been to any of the parks for NYE, but I remember a WDW bus driver once saying how the sun is coming up by the time they get all the people out of the parks.

So you found your spot for fireworks viewing around 9pm? So far I have avoided booking a dinner ADR since I didn't want to be tied into to a sit down dinner if I saw the urgency to find a spot.
What hotel were you staying at? We're at the Grand Floridian so we'll have to wait quite awhile for a boat or monorail, I expect.

We were in all star sports to be fair to Disney they are masters of people movement they had extra mears coaches as well as the normal buses running and they were pretty much constant all the time we stood in line it was just the sheer number of people also waiting that made it take so long I can believe it would be light by the time they got all the people out

When my bus went past the ttc could see the scale of the people waiting to get out of there and we were so happy we didnt take a car and have to be stuck in that mess!

I think it was around 9ish we found our spot there were people claiming spots a lot earlier it wasn't the best view in the house we had a little blocked by the corner of a tree but we wanted to enjoy our day not spend it all waiting they had a dj on to keep the crowd entertained it seemed really strange though to hear non Disney music in MK

I think a lot of people starting claiming spots around the first showing of the electric light parade the just staying put.

Interresting! Thanks for the info.

By "dessert party already booked" I assume you mean that you tried to book it & the website said it wasn't available, as if it was full. In reality, the New Years dates have not yet opened for booking and won't for several months. You can't get ADRs at 180 days for those.

And.... Omg. I would think that taking a person who's iffy on Disney anyway into a NYE crowd at the MK is pretty much the perfect way to ensure that he will never set foot in there again. ;)

Well, he's put up with my obsession for 27 years so I guess maybe he's imbued or immune? Our first trip together back in 1987 was to Disneyland (stayed at a grotty Ramada Inn, way off property).

Seriously I am considering going to MK on the 30th adn doing something else on NYE.
