We have a Coleman Montauk. It does the job pretty good We've gone camping twice since we got it. We went to Lion Country Safari. They have a KOA there and it's really clean. So this trip is the big test!!!

Good luck I know I am dreading the camping thing when we go to WDW in Dec 07 but I have solace in teh fact I get my SSR 2 bedroom for the last week LOL.

While the ferries are usually good, we had to wait over an hour to get back to FW from MK one night. I'm not sure what happened, I hope it wasn't normal!

Sometimes if the weather is bad, or if there is a road closure near the contemporary (i.e. the President, Govenor, etc), they also close the "water bridge" that goes over the road past the CR.

I love the cabins, but as many posters have said it is a bit of a pain to get around. Depending on the discounts you can sometimes get a garden view wing room at the CR for what a cabin costs. This would be the best value for newbies IMHO since they tend to spend most of their time at MK and Epcot and it's just a monorail ride away. Just a thought.

Also, never,never,never stay in the cabins the second and third weeks of December! Because this is THE BEST time of year to be there and I don't want to share. (so don't tell anybody, OK?)

I also disagree with those who say that Ft. W is not "themed" - it is a wilderness theme!! I've stayed at various resorts through the years as well as visited most of the resorts. I don't really understand why something thinks FW is not themed.

The pool itself is pretty basic, but everything from the bus stops, garbage cans, music, shops, restaurants is definitely THEMED.

We love it there and given a choice between FW and a hotel, I would definitely choose FW!!

I agree completely! I love the themeing at FW! I love spending time in the trading posts and our favorite pasttime is sitting on the porch at Trail's End, rocking away and soaking up the atmosphere. I don't see how FW could be more themed than it is.

Another comment on the size of Ft W and the "difficulty" of getting around -- I probably did just as much walking at ASMu when I was there in January! We were placed at the farthest building. Also, I have visited CBR and couldn't believe how big it was and how long we had to wait for a bus.

To be honest with you, if you can't stand walking and/or waiting in line, I think maybe a vacation at WDW is not for you.

I personally don't feel that you are any more inconvenienced "overall" with the transporation issue at Ft W than you are at any of the other resorts. Definitely if you want to spend your time at MK, you would be better off at one of the 3 monorail resorts.

I've been going to WDW since the first year it opened. On any given visit you can have some sort of issue with transportation. "Overall" I don't think Ft W is any better and/or worse than any other resort.

If someone doesn't like to walk and plans to spend most days in the parks, they may want to split their vacation between one of the monorail resorts and one of the Epcot resorts.

Fort Wilderness brings back many great memories of childhood trips to Disney! Our family always stayed at Cotton Tail Curl (which is very close to the pool & transportation). And almost every night we would make it to the movie. Although I do not stay there anymore, my niece & nephews do and they love it! It is great for kids because there are so many wild animals to see (armadillos, rabbits, squirrels, lizards, and frogs), hiking trails, playground, pool, a movie/campfire at night, and many recreational activities - biking & boats.

FtW is the 1st Disney resort we stayed at & we will be going back this Thanksgiving for a 3 generation family reunion of 15. My parents have only been to wdw as part of convention travel & have gone into the parks with 1 of those special 1/2 day passes. My brother & family have never been to wdw. My sister & family have been several times & have stayed at FtW cabins as well. We picked FtW cabins for this trip for the privacy both from other hotel guests(I never sleep well in a hotel, I hear the showers, etc) & for each family. (We really get along very well as a family, but the "kids" are all at college or working away from home so each family wants some private time as well) We really enjoy the peace & quiet of FtW, you are in a whole different world. No young children, actually we have a bunch of 20+ year olds who will be out late at night, so we liked the 2nd door that goes right into bedroom/bath area that will allow the grownups to sleep undisturbed on the murphy bed & also for them to get up early & get going in the morning while the "kids" sleep in. We have 5 cabins, 4 golf carts & 3 rental cars so transportation will be easy for us. I agree transportation can take a long time from one of the other big resorts such as the CBR. We have rented cars for our last 4 wdw trips. The "kids" love driving around in the golf carts & we plan to make use of the volleyball courts, exercise trail, boat rentals, etc. The kids are too old for the movie & petting zoo but we enjoyed them in the past. We'll have a big cookout at least 1 night. We will miss River Country, it was our favorite water park, but if its warm enough in late Nov we'll go to TL instead. The downsides I see are the pools & the lack of any quick counter service food choices.

I find the transportation much improved since FW has the outpost bus depot and we can take buses from there instead of going all the way to the TTC. I no longer feel like a second class citizen who can't take transportation directly to the parks and Downtown Disney from their resort. I'm a much happier camper now.

The kids are too old for the movie & petting zoo but we enjoyed them in the past.

Hey, at 57 and 54 my husband and I don't consider ourselves too old for the campfire movie. I guess the kids are in that in-between age....too young to be old (and in their second childhood, like us ) and too old to be young.

We just got back from 5 nights at FW. WE LOVED IT!!!

The kids (3, 5, 7, 9) loved not having to be quiet all the time. DH loved having all the extra room at the cabin. I loved the kitchen. We only had a few meals there (Thank you Free Dining!). Breakfast was very easy! Cereal and juice and mousekeeping even did the dishes!

As far as transportation goes you can have it any way you want at FW. Some days we took the bus to the boat for MK. Some days we took the bus to Epcot and a few days we took our car to where ever. You don't pay for parking at the parks if you are a resort guest and when you get 'home' you park right in front of your cabin, no big hike from a parking lot!

My DH always thought that the fancier the better. After our relaxing stay at a FW cabin he says that the will never do WDW as a family anywhere but FW! I agree!
