Call about our upcoming vacation at AKV - Jambo ...being refurbished

We got a call from an 800 # last night regarding our upcoming stay at a Jambo studio 1/24. I have been trying to call it today but the line has been busy. I called Member Services but they couldn't really tell me anything except that I need to call that #. Apparently Jambo villas are going to be starting refurbishment on 1/10.

The cm said they will explain what is going on and see if they can accommodate us elsewhere, most likely.

Has anyone ever had a call like this? What should I prepare myself for? I was really hoping to stay at Jambo with DH (his first time there).

Perhaps you can stay at Kidani? Not the same, I know, but more similar than any other option.

On another thread it was reported that a persons renter was being moved from a standard at Jambo to savannah view at Kidani because the standard room was going out of service - likely for the refurb that you were referenced.

A poster on the AKL/AKV thread in 'resorts' reported that she/he had a Jambo studio booked for Jan. and they offered her/him a 1 br. @ Kidani. She/he asked what else they had and was offered 1 br. @ BLT or BCV. She/he took BLT.
I followed the WLV threads as DVC moved people to accomodate the construction - what was offered as a replacement depended on what was available it seemed.
I wouldn't mind an upgrade from a studio to a 1 br.

They will call or write if you are. I can't imagine they'd start refurb in both buildings at once, though. Localize your chaos for ease of room reassignment.

Standard studio at Jambo to a 1 bedroom at BLT is an awesome change! Awesome for them!

Michael is right. It was announced at the annual meeting that they would start the Soft Good remodel with Jambo House and later do the soft goods at Kidani when Jambo was finished.

I am just surprised that they are starting this remodel in January as they only announced that BCV remodel would begin in January.

DVC must have originally planned on starting the refurb on January 3rd and then decided to push it back a few days. We just moved our trip to the first week of January, and I have been able to get three nights in a JH concierge level studio.

The first of this week, they released numerous JH villas - concierge, value, standard and savannah for the nights of January 4th and 5th for member booking.

A couple of days later, they released the villas for the night of the 3rd.

No other resorts besides SSR had any availability for those nights, and JH had availability in every type of villa

i got a call today and spoke to them before rechecking my responses here They offered me a standard studio view in Kidani for the 3 nights or the entire time at BLT (we have lake view studio for 3 nights). I asked if we could have savannah view studio at Kidani and she said yes, so that's what we have. But now I'm kicking myself for not seeing if I could have gotten a 1 bedroom for the entire time at BLT (I didn't want to stay in a studio there longer than 3 nights). ...do you think I'd have any luck if I called them back? I'm okay with what we have, but it sure would have been nice to have a 1 bedroom for our entire stay!!

Is there any speculation on how long the refurb will last? We are there as of the third week in February and wondering if anyone had gotten a call about a stay that late. We are in a 1BD though, are they only doing the studios?

To follow up, I did call them back and they were very accommodating about looking into other places that were open. We could have gotten a 1 bedroom the entire time at BWV, which would have been wonderful on most of our other trips, but this trip was about trying new resorts with DH, having no-park days, and a couple of days at MK. BLT 1 bedroom was unavailable for our stay.

No idea on how long the refurb is or which area they are doing, sorry.

It's a soft good refurbishment and they will do all room sizes. There are 134 DVC Units in Jambo House (counting 2-bedroom lock-offs as 1 unit) that will need to be refurbished prior to starting work at Kidani Village.

I just received the letter, too. (OP here) Odd that I would still get the letter after getting the phone call that I have to move.
