I have long loved Disneyland in California. Two years ago we had the opportunity to visit Walt Disney World. Finally, this summer, my mother and I were able to visit Disneyland Paris! A nice treat after a very hard first half of the year at work.
Took a nonstop flight from LAX to CDG. Tiring, but nonstop helps. Had a car reservation with Avis at CDG. They upgraded us to a big beautiful Mercedes-Benz E-Class. We had previously only ever driven less than 100km in Europe. We missed a couple turns at CDG, again tired from the flight, so Sat Nav took us on some long route out in the country. We actually had to go down streets that had ONE lane for both directions. For an American, this is pretty out of this world, but say in 40 minutes or so we made it to the Disneyland Hotel!
It felt good to be there, but again having just came from California, things are so different we were still getting acclimated to the different culture these first couple days.
It around 12:30 in the afternoon, so the room was not ready (or so they always claim). The hotel lobby did not really impress me having been to Grand Californian and Animal Kingdom Lodge. However, it was fine, and we headed towards the beautiful park!!!
Main street USA immediately seemed so wide compared to the California park.
We went straight to Space Mountain! This is an attraction we love in Anaheim and is pretty good in Florida, but this Paris version was a surprise and not a good one. It was only a 5 minute wait, and the launch was ok, but I quickly found that rather than giving you thrills of a speeding roller coaster, it tended to physically beat our heads against the head restraints, so we got off with our heads hurting quite badly. Never had a ride do that in Anaheim or Florida, but we were still ecstatic to be there. We were pushed a few times in the short Space Mountain line, which quickly reaffirmed what I read here about the different culture when it comes to the lines in the park, but wasn't too bad yet.
After just this one ride, we were very tired, so we headed out of the park and sat on a bench to the side of Fantastia Gardens. After a short rest, we went to this fast food shack right at the entrance of Disney Village to get a chips and cola light, again we were in a bit of a daze as it had been so many hours since we headed to the airport back home.
Finally, it was past 3pm, so we went back to hotel. We had a room on the wing farthest from the lobby, but the walk did not seem too bad at this time. We were tired, but physically had not done a lot of walking yet, so we were still excited.
Walking by the restaurant area on level 2 seemed pretty nice.
Our room was on the 4th floor, the window was a bit hard to look out as it had a window seat so to speak. However, we could see bits of the gardens and a tiny bit of disneyland entrance and a tiny piece of tomorrowland, but most of all hear the train and whatnot. I felt lucky that I wasn't looking at only a brick wall or solid tree.
The room quality was eh. I wasn't too grossed out or anything. There was some mold in bathroom and stains on some furniture, but the room was acceptable.
For dinner, we had went back to out to studios and used a hotel fast pass on Tower of Tower, same as California, just as fun and much better than Florida, in my opinion. Also nice they don't pack the library so full. So since we were there and so tired, we just shared a pizza and had a drink inside that main studios building after the entrance. It was time for some good sleep.
However, woke up at 6am the next day, so we could do 8am early entry. Was ready for breakfast at 6:50, but had learned at check in day before that breakfast was now 7:30, not 7:00. That is completely idiotic, in my opinion, since you can visit parks at 8am. Nevertheless, we're fast. The breakfast was delicious. We don't eat meat, but the eggs were very good, potatoes good, good breads, fruit, etc. etc. We were out in time to be at the park opening at 8am, though I saw no one else get out that fast.
The park that early looks so much more beautiful, with less people. I was truly impressed by its beauty. Rode Peter Pan, fun. Rode the tea cups, good as always. Went on Space 2 more times, probably not smart. Once again, instead of having thrills and our stomachs getting scared during the ride, our brains were being physically beaten. Bad headaches. Sat around in fantasyland about a hour as by 9am early entry gets too busy for the few rides open. waited for 10am opening, to ride Pirates!!! Wow! ! ! Pirates is probably the BEST version I have been on. Better than California and much better than Florida. Can't describe exactly why, but I thought it was excellent.
Rode Indiana Jones, wow. Worst than Space. Instead of being thrilling, physically beat our heads against seats.
We then drove our beautiful rental car to the shopping mall. Visited the grocery store to buy the cheapest Evian water I have ever seen a few sweets for the room. In the afternoon/evening, I believe we rode Rock N Roller Coaster, but not positive. Just as good as florida obviously. It's fun and does not physically beat your head.
Had a lunch at Annette's take out, the green potato burger. Pretty good. For dinner, just had a snack as from all the traveling, never felt really hungry.
I want to post pictures, but not sure where to host them to link them from here?
