Okay, I am really terrified of rollar coasters (love space mountain thought), how bad is California Screamin. Any feedback you could provide would be great!!

Don't tell anybody this but my dh is a big baby when it comes to rides and rollercoasters. I also hate rollercoasters. Anyways, last trip I told dh had to ride screamin with me and he was mad and said no, I somehow convinced him to go on and he was really upset, but once we got off he said "OH LETS DO IT AGAIN" :rotfl: just like a little kid. There are no huge drops or sudden drops, it does go upside down but it's very quick. That's why I hate rollercoasters, I don't do upside down but it didn't even bother me on this ride. I say try it, it's not nearly as bad as it looks. And if you like space I think you will like screamin.

This Grandma has done some pretty wild coasters...Dueling Dragons in Florida made the blood rush down to my feet ( I was pretty lightheaded afterwards) and I got a nosebleed from the corkscrew on Goliath at Six Flags. :scared:

California Screamin' is a much, much smoother, and tamer, coaster than those 2 and not nearly as hard on the body. :)

I usually get my head pretty banged up when I ride coasters that use harnesses because I'm so short....but not on CS. :thumbsup2

And the launch is such fun!

If you like Space Mountain, then I think you'll like CS.

Most Disney coasters are so heavily themed that you cannot see what you are getting into ahead of time. Space Mtn is this way. California Screamin has weak theming in truth, and that allows you to see the whole thing. It is a fun coaster, but IMO much more intense than Space Mtn. I and my whole family do like CS and we do ride it. I agree it is a smooth coaster and avoids the rough rides of some other types at other parks. I would recommend you take a walk back there and look it over before deciding.

I noticed that you are from Texas. Have you been on the Rock'n'Roller coaster at WDW? If you have ..........it is very simular, except of course it isn't in the dark. CS is also way longer.

I am also a grandma that loves everything except most roller coasters at other amusement parks. But I do like every roller coaster at DLR including Cali Screamin. It is intense, but not terrifying to me.

(I forgot that I don't like the Mulholland Madness anymore. The last time, I didn't feel so good after it)

Since you love Space, what is it that typically terrifies you about other rollercoasters, vettegirl? Is it the height, the drops, the speed, the feeling of free-falling, or what? Without knowing that, I am hesitant to make any kind of recommendation. (I have enough coaster-adverse friends to respect their individual proclivities, and I know that what affects one doesn't necessarily affect another.)

I love both Screamin' and Space, but I don't agree that if you like one of them, you will like the other. Screamin' really is a different animal than Space (or Big Thunder or Matterhorn). One of the biggest differences, for example, is that you really feel "out in the open" on Screamin'. This feeling of vunerability can be really terrifying to some people. Also, though the drops are not as extreme as you will find on coasters at other parks, the fact is there are a couple which are fairly steep. Once again, that is not something you will find on any other DLR coaster.

Okay, I have made up my mind I am riding California Screamin next week (Oct 25-29) no matter what. I guess for me the loop is what scares me only because I have never done one before. Thanks for all of your advice, it doesn't sound too bad.

:yay: :yay: :yay: :yay: :yay: for you.

Really...the loop is over so quickly, you hardly even notice it. I think I closed my eyes the first few times I did a loop, but not anymore.

Have a great time!

Only 20 more days to wait! :cheer2: :yay: :cheer2: :yay: :cheer2: :yay:

California Screamin' is one of my favorite rides because the fun factor way outweighs any fear factor.

You're going to have a great time! Be sure to tell us how much you liked it when you come back. :)

CA Screaming is the BEST coaster I've ever been on. I love coasters and it is definitely my favorite!!! It's so smooth, usually after a coaster my neck/head start pounding but not with CA Screaming! I highly recommend this one!!

California Screamin' is a great coaster. I was sitting a row behind Mary Jo when she filmed that video. It's very smooth, and very fast. I find the front and the back to be the most intense.

I always say try it once, and if you don't like it, you never have to do it again.

Just wanted to agree with all the others. Ca Screamin' is such a fun ride. The thing that makes it so cool is how smooth it is - so many coasters do a number on my neck and back. And no giant drops. I don't ride Tower of Terror or Maliboomer because I do not like long drops or free falling. Have a great time, let us know how you liked it:) .

I have to agree. It's the best rollercoaster I've been on. Yes it does have some drops that aren't real steep, but they are definately drops! The loop is the least scary thing about it.

Ride it once. You will regret it if you don't. There isn't any HUGE drops like some coasters. It is my favorite!

CS is very smooth and takes away the jerki-ness scare that some people get from other coasters. Honestly, the loop is nothing. Most of the time you dont even know you did one, its over so fast.

Worst thing for most people I think is the launch. 0 to 55 mph in 4 seconds is probably the most intense part of it.

What a fun ride. I loved it so much I rode it 4 times. Thank you so much for your advice.

Hey your back!!! And you rode it 4 times???
Wow! :rotfl:
I guess it was alright!!! :thumbsup2

Do tell more.........?

It took me the last day of the trip to ride it. There were other adults that would not ride it, but when I saw small children riding it I knew it had to be fun. The drops were nothing. Also, the soundtrack made it really fun. Also rode it at night and that added a whole new experience to the ride. I had gone on TOT the previous day twice, that ride was very scary but I loved every second of it.
