California Sales Center!!! Prelude to Grand Californian DVC?!!!

OK, went to DL last night, as well as DTD. Since I was there I checked out the GC to see if it did have enough space for adding on.

It looks to be 5 stories tall, with some room at the end of one side near DCA. With 125 units over 5 floors that would be 25 units per floor. Thus 12 units would face one direction, and 13 units the other direction. Going off of this, there shouldn't be a space problem with an addition.

I'd wager that they will see what kind of response they get from their DVC sales center during the 50th to decide if they will build a DVC attached to the GC. I may have to go incognito and express multiple interests in a DVC at GC. :teeth:

how could DVC exist in california? my understanding was that due to CA laws regarding ownership expiration for timeshares, that DVC could not exist there...
As I've said before, I don't know where the CA legal quotes originated. From what I can tell, they did not come official from DVC or DVD. They may be accurate but I am not convinced.

Could be people misinterpreting the fact that SSR was not allowed to be sold in CA until just recently (I was told that selling uncompleted timeshare properties is illegal in The Golden State).

They are probably just going to have a sales center there. There seems to be more people from the west buying into DVC, so it would make sense that they would want to entice people coming to DL to buy DVC. Another reason might be if DCL offers a western cruise with the third ship that they recently announced they plan to build. That will certainly benefit people in the west as they will not have to fly to Florida to cruise. And what a better year to announce all these things than during DL's 50th anniversary celebration.

If, in fact, DVC is planning to build a resort at DL, I'm not sure that one resort would be enough. It would probably fill up long before the 7-month window.

I don't think so, this issue has been batted around for years, prior to SSR even being announced. I'm not saying one way or another to CA law, I don't know. But I don't recall DVC or anyone in an official capacity saying such including the press releases. I also find it hard to believe DVC would have gotten to the point of buying land, planning a 650 unit resort, then announcing an expansion of the resort to a larger scale; all without knowing the basic laws of the state in question. If you'll recall, they didn't officially cancel it until after the original planned opening date and the revised start date.

Remember all this happened around the time VB and HH opened and the plans for expansion of DL area was moving forward. Also remember that Disney scaled back the plans for the CA parks with no Westcot and a reduced scale of DCA. It was kind of like when the college coaches keep saying they're not leaving, you can be they're packing already.

I will believe it when I see it, But I think it's just same old rumors. If they did make one out there it would get me for an addon.

DH and I would add on in a heart beat if they sold points to a DL resort! The rumor on the extra property they just purchased that I heard 2 years ago was for a water park. It was pretty well substantiated, and I heard it from many cast members - but we'll see. I've NEVER heard from anyone there about another theme park. I think a water park would do well there - it is certainly warm enough for a large part of the year.
As far as room at the Grand CA, or nearby - well - they have certainly bought out others before, and if they think they can make money - they'll buy out other hotels again. There is room at the Grand CA for DVC units - maybe a small section like the WLV. Anyway - I'm crossing all fingers and toes, I'll try some sort of tribal DVC dance maybe - is there a DVC saint I could pray to? (hehehe) :bounce: :bounce:

We wouldn't purchase at DL, and probably wou't be out there to stay, too much else to see. But it would be nice for the west coasters. It's gotta be a long flight to WDW.

I think we'll see a DL resort before another off site resort, as much as I'd like another off site resort.
