California Liquor Laws

Travelling to different states, I've noticed different laws pertaining to the sale of alcohol. For example some places only sell it in actual liquor stores, others have been and wine in grocery stores/corner stores.

What laws can I expect in California? What if I want to find more micro/craft brewed beer?

There are few and you can find wine, beer and liqour in either specialty shops, grocery stores or pharmacies. The selection is very different in each location as well as knowledge and customer service.

I expect you are going to Disneyland. I know there is an Albertsons grocery store not very far south from Disneyland on Harbor Blvd that had what we needed. Sorry I can't promise you your brand of ale but you never know.

Well actually, we are starting in Hollywood, then 2 days in Disneyland, then up route 1 towards San Francisco. I just wanted a general idea of any particular laws or restrictions as I don't know when/where we will be picking this kind of stuff up.

I would say California is fairly wide open about selling alcohol compared to most states.

To find microbrew you generally need to be in stores near the brewery or a store with a large selection of beers. Even a Walmart may have some if near a brewery.

To save you some time near DL, there is a 7eleven and ABC market on the southeast corner of the resort. ABC has a full line of liqour, a little beer and wine. 7eleven has some wine and more beer but nothing uncommon. The 7 eleven does have some Sierra Nevada. While not an uncommon beer it's brewed in Northern California and worth a try.

Actually, I've tried and love products from both Sierra Nevada and Anchor, I'm assuming two fairly large microbrews in California ( since I've found them very far away from california ). So that'll do

lots of great places in California to get beer. Try BevMo, its the best.

You won't have much trouble finding beer. Sierra Nevada is available just about anywhere. I buy my alcohol (mostly) from BevMo, Wal-Mart, Target or a small liquor store near the house. Of course much of my wine comes directly from the wineries but there are good wines and beer just about anywhere. BTW, there are quite a few breweries in/around San Francisco, so you might want to check into that when you're there.

I know Anchor is there, famour for their 'Steam' beer. I don't know that we'll have time for any kind of brewery visit, we're on a pretty tight schedule as it is ... I'm not even sure I'll be able to get to the Walt Disney museum cause I'm really the only one in the group who would love to.

What I miss about living in California is that you can purchase alcohol 7 days a week, and can make the purchases just about anywhere. You don't have to go to state controlled stores in order to do so. Just be sure to buy it before 2am when sales stop for the remainder of the night.

at the rate that gas is going - Sierra will be cheaper than 87 octane very shortly....

In California Adventure you can get Strauss beers on site... other wise craft beers can be purchased everywhere.

In / around SF - brewers heaven - SF - ThirstyBear / 20 Tank / Rock Bottom / Anchor / Gordon Biersch / Pyramid / E.F.Phair / Triple Rock.... more than I can mention ( or remember..)

restrictions - you're kidding right - in a state where we have home cannabis delivery???
