I just saw Dateline Disney for this week and noticed they have recolored the CALIFORNIA letters for WOC. There has been talk of the letters being removed as part of the park's renovation. Has anyone heard anything new about when they will be removed? We are taking our first holiday trip to DLR this year and hoped to see the candy cane letters.

I asked a similar question last week. There is a thread with photo of the new colored sign and the other 'colorful' touches around DCA. I was saying that I thought the sign was coming down. I thought it would be gone last year, but this year for sure. Albort said that until they get a new entrance set up at DCA for people to easily move through, they are going to keep the sign where it is. Right now it would be too disruptive to get rid of the letters and interrere with the flow of traffic in and out of the park without another entrance set up.

So the letters will most likely still be there in December, but we don't know if they will be candy canes or colored like they are now.

Thanks Sherry!
I completely missed that thread.

It doesn't surprise me that you missed it - there have been about 10,000 WoC-related threads, and it's hard to know what info or photos can be found in each one.:rotfl2: Also, this part of the board has been hoppin' lately so a lot of the threads are moving at warp speed down the pages.

I thought the color of the letters were a nice change coupled with the World of Color theme. Two Thumbs Up!

Everyone I talk to says the DCA letters are just great. I adored the color change; I was thinking about posting but I saw a picture of them (I think on MiceChat) first and I would've rather been surprised, actually. ;)

I hope they don't get rid of them but they don't really fit with the entrance art I've seen. I actually like the 20s and 30s very much but I don't care for their entrance concept art though; it looks a lot like Hollywood Studios to me. So I'm secretly hoping they change their plans...

I believe the new DCA entrance will move the turnstiles out to where the CA letters are now. And as Eva said re-theme the entrance to 20's-30's Los Angeles. I think it will be a good change once it happens over the next 1-2 years.

Funny story about the letters. We always take DD's picture on the "L" for Lauren. On day two of our trip last week we took the picture. The next day as we entered DCA I was staring at the "L" thinking "was it that color yesterday or am I dreaming that it is different?" I had to pull out my camera to see and sure enough, it had changed over night!

Gaucho as in UCSB?

Talking with a CM who was pretty high up, he said October is when the letters go away. Not sure if before or after Halloween, but he said that is why DL will host MTOTP this year. The construction on the DCA entrance is set to begin then, and it won't look very "magical" for awhile.

I myself really like the letters- and don't like the new entrance plans, it looks so much like DHS's entrance.

This makes me very sad, planning a trip in Dec., it is one thing to remove the letters, however to say that the parks won't look very magical for awhile is another thing. Not sure I like that. I thought Christmas was the most magical time to go, so are they saying just that area, or will this go into the parks too. I hope that the parks will still be decorated and feeling magical and that they are only talking about the entrance way. I am with many others, I think they should leave the entrance way alone, I think it is going to be a bad change.:confused3

I think Silly Little Pixie was saying that the CM told her the entrance area to DCA (where the letters are) won't look magical for a while - not the parks themselves. Christmas is too major of a season at DLR for them to not have DLR as fully decked out as possible, and I'm sure DCA will be decorated as it usually is (which is not nearly as elaborate or extensive as DL is). They may not have Santa in DCA this year (we won't know for a while), but he wasn't there in 2008 either. And there may be no candy cane letters, but DCA itself will probably have just as many decorations as it usually has. It's really DL that's the main focus of the season, more so than DCA, and I don't think there will be a change in DL at all.

It's too bad that the letters won't be decorated as candy corn for HalloweenTime - that was one thing I missed last year, but I loved it in 2008, when the party was still the TOTP. Now that the party is the MHP (Mickey's Halloween Party), it's a whole new ballgame.

Even though a CM said the remodeling of the entrance is why the party was moved to DL this year, I still tend to think that a big part of the reason (if not the only reason) why the Halloween party was moved over to DL is because of World of Color. In the past, the Paradise Pier area has been open to the party guests. Now, that is one entire area that will be closed down all night, leaving party guests with very limited options in DCA besides seeing WoC. I think they really want to keep the focus on WoC this year, while it's still new. Having a Halloween party in DCA would be too disruptive at the moment, and, again, one whole major section of the park would be closed to guests, while another area of the park (the Hollywood Backlot area) is housing a holding area for WoC viewers. The park is too WoC-centric this year to really accommodate a Halloween Party easily.

Another reason for the move is that Disney is confident they finally have a second park worth staying in all night, as DCA houses what could be ARGUED is the best show at Disneyland (I'm not saying it IS, but some have). Too bad that the Paradise Pier rides are shut down for it; if you don't want to see WoC and if they're not running Glow Fest, there won't be much to do for the people who go over to DCA after Disneyland closes to regular guests for the party.

Thank you Sherry, that does make me feel a little bit better. I must say I would be very happy however if the California letters stayed up all year and were those bright colors, so happy. :goodvibes As long as those big ornaments are up in Bug's Land come Christmas time, I will be excited, that is one thing I want to see really much. :goodvibes:santa:
