Hello--

I have been to Disney lots of times- however, never ate at the California Grill-- we are on the dining plan so i said to DH--
this time...we are THERE! :thumbsup2

I read some posts about "the wine room" exactly what is that. when you call to make ressies do you specifically ask for that??

and-- i would like to be there during the fireworks (can you see them from the wine room?)-- should i make the ressies about a half hour before they start?-- or is it better to have dinner then view the fireworks afterwards out on the terrace??

Thank you..

We love the "wine room." :thumbsup2 In fact we had dinner there around a month ago and had a magical experience. I really need to post a review. But I digress.

It is a rather small room off to the side and back of the main dining room. There are large bottles of wine on shelves in that room so I guess that is how it acquired its name on the DIS. At any rate, we've enjoyed that room long before we found the DIS because of its size and therefore relative intimacy and quiet.

You can't request it ahead of time. Just ask at the podium. You can not see Wishes from that room.

Personally, we request a dinner time which fits our needs although I know we are in the minority here. But if Wishes occurs during your dinner, your server will probably make sure to time your courses so that you can go out on the deck. They do an excellent job with this.

We were seated in the wine room when we ate at the California Grill several years' ago. I had hoped to be seated near a window facing the Castle so that we could view the fireworks. However, when the fireworks started, we just got up and walked over to the windows to watch. (So did everyone else). Unfortunately, the night we were there it was drizzling rain so it wasn't much of a show. From the wine room we did have a really nice view of one of the lakes. The food was wonderful! The only negative was that the restaurant was a little loud.

I agree with what's been said so far--but there is always a "chance" that there will be kids in the wine room and at least that part won't be different. BUt it is removed from the general "buzz" of the open kitchen main dining room and that's why we like eating there.

We ate in the wine room with our children in Nov. I thought that they put us back there because we had kids with us and they wanted us to be secluded, but we actually liked it back there. There were a few tables that also had kids, but it was very relaxing and quiet compared to the main dining room. Many seats in the main dining room will have a view of Wishes, but it can't be seen from the wine room.
