Hello,
We visited in the early part of October and spent my birthday dinner at the California Grill.
I asked the bartender for something White and Sweet. She said, Will I do ? :rotfl:
Then she gave me a glass of reisling, but I forgot the name. It was the best reisling I've had. If I see the name, then I'll be able to recall it immediately. It was a long name.
Anyone have any idea?
Thanks!

One Riesling I have had there was Eroica by Chateau Ste. Michelle, but I do not find it super sweet, sort of in the middle. But maybe that is it? FWIW.

Not at CG but one I like is Columbia Riesling.

Go to a good wine store and go to the German Section buy any Riesling that says Auslese or Spatlese on the label the former having more residual sugar than the later. You can get some good ones for around $20 if cost is an issue.

I had a very good Riesling at V&A's in October. It was Dr. Zenzen Valwiger Herrenberg Riesling Auslese, Mosel 2001.

Are you sure it was a Reisling and not a Gewurztraminer? This one is listed on Deb Wills site: Kent Rasmussen Late Harvest Gewurztraminer, Russian River '03$6.75.

This is delicious - the regular Chateau St Michelle is much sweeter. The Eroica is a blend that CSM did with Dr Loosen vineyards!

It'll be interesting to see if what you had was made in California. Usually the good Domestic Reislings come from NY State because of our climate (I would find it odd if they were using German Reislings at the Cali Grill...and a little offensive.) Also, one thing I've learned is that what one people will call a "good" Reisling, others will hate because of the residual sugar.

I just happen to have the California Grill September wine list(regular, not Reserve) right in front of me!!
3 Rieslings listed:
Angoeves Claire Valley $40 a bottle and $10 a glass
Dr. Burklin-Wolf Estate, Pfalz $42 a bottle and $10.50 a glass
Selbach-Oster Bernkastleler Badstube Spatlese, Mosel $53 a bottle and $13.50 a glass.

An Austrailian and 2 German...

I'm surprised that the California Grill doesn't offer a California-only wine list. Or at the very least, keep it domestic. Not one of those Rieslings is domestic. (I never used to care until I moved into a wine making area...I'm shocked by how many places don't offer domestic bottles when the quality is there.)

...I'll get off my soapbox now :sad2:

We have been keeping the Selbach...riesling Kabinett at home...finding it at the local liquor store...it is a dry riesling, very delicious.

I looked over the wine list in detail. Actually I'd say 3/4 of all the wines ARE from California.. Napa and Sonoma seem to predominate.

That is becasue the domestic qualtiy is not there. Ca has no clue what to do with the grape. Oregon I say is the best domestic. There is no comparison domestically to what they do in Germany.

We had a very good riesling at Yachtsman 3 yrs ago. It was Fess Parker (yes Davy Crocket/Daniel Boone). He apparently opened a winery several years ago. I had never had riesling before so I can't compare to other brands, but we liked it a lot.

I THINK this was it! I remember the Wolf part!
We went in October, think it's the same menu?

OT: Speaking of Rieslings and Sweet Wines:
Each fall me, DH and our friends tour some of the vineyards here on Long Island. My favorite is Duck Walk. They have my absolute favorite Ice Wine: Aphrodite. I paid $28 for a 375 ML bottle, maybe 3 or 4 glasses worth. It is a Gewurztraminer (I can't even pronounce that!) but the folks at the vineyard called it an ice wine. In my opinion, it is my favorite wine. But after tasting that Wolf Reisling, I think I have a tie!

I love the sweet wines. Since no one likes what I drink at get togethers, my husband will always go out and buy a bottle for me. For Thanksgiving, my husband bought me Two bottles. It was a good thing he did, because when my cousin and her daughter came over, I found out it was also Their favorite wine, and then when my FIL came over, I found out that he loved it, too! Thank God they left some for me! After all, I was the cook!
We also picked up two rieslings to serve, and I found out my MIL and SIL love them also. Man, all those years of bringing whites and zinfandels for get-togethers, what a waste! The one bottle that I still have is named Dr. L, Loosen Bros. Mosel, from Germany. Not the type listed above, and it wasn't as sweet as the one served at CG, but it was good to try something new.

Thank you all for your responses. I am almost sure it was the Wolf reisling. I am going to write down the two that were suggested above and search the wine stores and give them a try, might as well!

I think it would be the same menu. But keep in mind that Disney menus ( and wine lists) are printed on paper so that they can change almost overnight.
