I have a ADR for September 22nd @ 7:20pm for a table of 6, two people from my group just canceled so I change all my other ADR's to 4 people but I couldn’t for California Grill b/c all the 4 tops were full. What do I do? If I only show with 4, they said I will get charged $40 for the two people that didn't show and they can't guarantee my getting seated.

Any suggestions?

In my experience they charge if the whole party doesn't show up.

When you arrive tell them two people couldn't make it.

I am doing the same thing in a week and a half. I could not change the reservation to 4 without losing it and I am darn well going to eat there for my freakin birthday.

I just read an article online dated May 2007 that said when CG went to a reservations only policy, people would make reservations just to get up there to watch the fireworks, and then leave. Before the policy took place CG averaged 150 no-shows a night. They just want somebody to show up to eat.

The one time we dined there we had a party of 6 that they had to split into two tables and not even near each other. :sad2:
As long as you don't get charged, you tried, and it is worth a shot.
Call even the day of your res. If they guarantee ADRs with $, I would think guests are more inclined to cancel when they can't make it.
I would hate to see you get charged for two no shows. Hopefully it works out for you.

Hurray, Calif. Grill!:thumbsup2 Great policy.

If you took a reserved spot for 6 people then that's what you should pay for. You blocked 2 other people from getting a reservation. Unless you cancel & get at the back of the line for a table for 4, you should pay for your no-shows. That's the price of getting the time you want.

People are banging down the door to dine at California Grill every night. If they lose 2 in their party, well thats just two more people who got to dine that otherwise probably would not have. If the issue is really the 6 top table, and the $80 is a big deal, well then invite a couple waiting to join you:) Dining reservations are not like a hotel, where if there are no-shows a room goes unrented, and thus the need to guarantee with penalties, etc.

I agree with what the others have said. Show up, tell em the other two couldnt make it, and my bet is its no big deal....

Thank you everyone. I'm going to keep calling hopeing for a cancellation. Fingers crossed!!

We went in January of this year and I made an ADR for 3 of us. On the night of the ADR, the dance competition my DB was there to see for his daughter went long and he was unable to make it. I left him there and DM and I went to eat anyway, and we were not charged extra for him (I called in advance to check and they said it was OK.)
