DH and I are trying to arrange our ADRs for our 2008 trip with the deluxe dining plan......I have one night open and need to decide between CG or Jikos.
Any advice? (DH is a picky eater and wants to book the Yachtsman twice, instead of trying either one of these) I'm holding out for a new experience, as we have never tried Jikos or CG.

If your husband is picky, then he will probably have difficulty with either Jiko or CG. I'd suggest Artist Point as a comparable place. You can check the menus for any of them right here at DIS. Just click on the "Dining" menu item near the top of this page.

We already plan 1 night at Artist pt. and also Narcosees........should I just stick with the steak house type rest??? Everyone says the steak at Jikos is so great.. I just want to check out the atmosphere at Jikos or Wishes at CG.

either one is great! He may get more out of Jiko though.

It's Jiko, not Jikos.

And the filet is great. I am not much of a meat eater and I thought it was great. You can always check the menus.

we ate at jiko in october and loved everything we tried(ask for the appetizer platter not on menu). There is also a few items on the menu for picky eaters try the short rib it's awesome. can't wait to go back!

Jiko definitely; we were very disappointed with CG in June - served my DS's med-rare steak burnt then brought him a burnt one.

Why you would want to book the same restaurant twice is beyond me. There are so many wonderful places to eat at the World why not stretch a little bit and try something different. Wherever you go there will be something "easy" to eat. A lot is the atmosphere. To enjoy yourself you don't need to eat Sashimi at the CG or Antelope at Jiko. Loosen up. have fun. That is what it is all about.

I actually have never had either... but my husband and I will be celebrating our wedding anniversary may 12th at CG :) Just thought I would throw that out there, I've heard a lot of great things about it.

I don't think you could go wrong with either one. Why don't you print both menus off and let your husband decide based on his preference? No matter which he chooses, you're a winner, IMO.

I think both are excellent (and better than Narcoosees and Artist Pointe) so either would be a good choice. Since your signature says "winos", I would go JIKO and experience some very unique African wine. We always enjoy an excellent bottle while there that adds to the experience of some very good food.

Had dinner at CG last month, and was a little nervous because I don't like "fancy" food. Had one of the best filets I have ever eaten there - I'm so glad we went!

have never eaten at Jiko's, so I'm not going to be any help there. But give CG a try! (Look at their menu online first - my friend had one of the flatbreads and a great salad. I think there's something for everyone, even picky eaters!)

Both CG and Jiko have excellent food, but I prefer the atmosphere at Jiko. California Grill always seems to be too loud and hectic for me. Either way, you really won't go wrong.

Leaning towards Jiko for the atmosphere, plus I love red wine from South Africa. DH has looked at both menu and was not too impressed, but said he was willing to try whichever one I decide. Plus I've never been to the AK and want to look around the resort for future vacation options. Thanks for the great input. I assume a ressie at 7-8pm would be a bit more romantic?

Not sure.
There are always kids at Jiko, but maybe the later dining time will help. We usually eat at Jiko at 6 and aren't out until 7:30 or so. At that time still plenty of kids.
At CG on the other hand, the place is usually full of kids until after the fireworks. Then it's relatively quiet.

We loved Jiko when we ate there in 2006--the food was not "odd," just delicious! The atmosphere is wonderful and very relaxing. They have great filets and excellent short ribs, and the mac & cheese is tasty, too. I had fish that was to die for (don't remember what type of fish, but it was yummy). I would recommend this restaurant highly (we're going back this Jan!). :goodvibes

I agree with the pp who said to print out the menus and have DH choose - you can't go wrong either way. I just ate at CG last week and it was flat out one of the best meals I have ever had. My IL's ate at Jiko (also last week) and raved about it. I don't think any of the food is overly "odd", and there are certainly choices at both for "picky" eaters.

I'm sorry to the pp who had a bad filet at CG - mine was ordered medium, and it came out medium - perfectly cooked and so tender I could have cut it with a spoon.

Also, if your DH doesn't like the idea of the sauces on the steak or chicken or whatever, I'm sure he could ask for them on the side - we found both places very helpful in that area.

Either way - enjoy!!

LOVE Jiko! If your DH likes steak then he can order the fillet. If he's worried about the mac and cheese under the fillet, he can order that on the side.

The taste of Africa appetizer is amazing!! One is more than enough for both of you.

Or like when we went they were all sleeping...while thier parents were eating

We had a 5:30 reservation at Jiko on October 11th, and there was only one other child there. She was probably 8-9 years old. Other than that - no kids.
