Who's done this? Do you have to eat dinner at CG, or can you sit on the balcony, with kids, and have a cocktail while watching the fireworks?

The balcony does not have chairs, you have to stand. Also you can try to get a table in the lounge, but they go quick and you do have to order (i think). I would just go to chef mickeys for an earyly dinner and get up to the observation deck by 8:00pm and you should be ok, but you will have to stand.

Have a great trip.

How early would you suggest arriving if we wanted to sit in the lounge? And would we have to order dinner there, or just drinks & maybe appetizers? Could the kids be outside on the balcony while we're inside?

The fireworks are at 8:30 pm on the night we're talking about.

Thanks for the help!

We were at WDW last Sept. Had drinks only in the lounge by the windows. Of course, the drinks were VERY expensive. Had it not been such a cloudy night, I'm certain the view would have been fantastic. As it was. the only evidence that there were fireworks was the light behind the clouds. Another place to consider is the 2nd floor lounge at the Poly.

we were lucky enough to have a LV concierge room. I never go back to my room early but this one night I did and watched the fireworks from the window/door, whatever you call it, there was no balcony. what a gorgeous view we had the longe is on the same side as the room I was in so I am assuming that view is just as good.:D

The lounge is a tiny little thing at CG, so what few tables there are go FAST. And it isn't really a lounge at all--more like a few tables sandwiched in between two sections of the restaurant. Quite open, and not very cozy!! No tables were avaiable the nite we ate at the CG in May--that was about 2 hours prior to fireworks time. And if someone by any chance vacates a table, there will be a stampede as folks rush to claim it. We got a great view of the whole operation as we STOOD for an hour waiting for our PS dinner table--.
The lounge at the CG used to be much larger, but a few years back they claimed a substantial portion of it as tables for the restaurant. So all that's left is a very small bar and lounge area.
