So I was wondering if it is 'strange' or 'tacky' if we were to go to the CG just to have dessert and watch the fireworks?

We could do a meal but it looks so pricey! The view is gorgeous!

no it wouldn't be strange but it might be difficult since fireworks seating it very popular tables fill up early and people tend to sit a long time waiting for them.
You might have a hard time getting a table close to firworks time and just order dessert.
If you get an ADR for a normal fireworks seating, you might have a hard time justifying sitting there an hour, hour and a half and only order dessert.

A better alternative is just go up to watch the fireworks. There is an outside viewing area people often go to just view firworks.

I don't think it would be appropriate.

CG seems to be booked solidly every night. If you go just for dessert, you would be taking a table from a family who actually wants to dine there....and dining is the main point of the restaurant.

It would also impact your server. Instead of earning a tip on a meal, it would be a much smaller tip for just dessert.

Just going up won't work either. Apparently too many people were doing that so now they control access. You need to have a reservation. However, folks have reported that they do allow guests up to order a drink at the bar if there is space. I sort of doubt there's much space near the time of Wishes though.

There is a walkout on the 4th floor where you could enjoy Wishes. But it truly best from inside the park as there are aspects of it that can't be seen from anywhere else.

How about sitting at the bar and having your desert this way you get to go there and won't be taking up a table. It's like having your cake and eating it to lol.

That's a great idea although I do wonder if there's any room at the bar during Wishes. It always seems jammed to me. But perhaps the OP could try and then if it doesn't work out, head to the 4th floor?

The bar is first come first serve unless you have a dinner reservation. It is also very, very crowded like all of CG.

I personally don't think it is appropriate to go and just have dessert because you can't afford the restaurant. You are booking a dinner reservation and that is what the Restaurant expects. I don't think Disney has a policy against it though although I have seen minimum charges at non-Disney restaurants. I would also imagine that your server would not be too thrilled as he/she would be losing a lot of tip money on your table. It could possibly make for an uncomfortable eveneing.

Thanks a bunch guys! I think we will do something else, looking into the dining shows.
It isn't that we CAN'T afford it, it's that we have so many other restaurants we are going to! Just need to make wise decisions, that is all.
ANd I agree about the tip. Absolutely. I would give a tip worthy of a full meal if I were to go.
Also, I agree with holding up a table for those who really want to dine there. I would feel bad in that case.
Im not too worried over not going, there are many options for us.
But thank you all very much. Everything you have said makes total sense!

A nice alternative is dinner at Kona Café or Ohana at the Polynesian and then strolling out to be beach to watch the fireworks. Great view, much more affordable and no possibility of anyone getting upset.

I posted this 2 years ago. We were in Flying fish one night and a couple sat at the table next to us. When the CM arrived to take their order, they said they just wanted coffe and to split a dessert. The CM did not seem all that happy and told them that the tables were for people eating dinner and since people were waiting to be seated they would have to sit at the counter of the show kitchen. The people got pretty huffy and the CM offered to bring a manager over to explain their policy. The people just walked away. Another couple was placed there about 5 minutes later.

Why not sit at the bar at Narcoossee's? Have a drink - it wasn't crowded AT ALL and then stroll out to the porch for the fireworks? (They pipe in the music).
