California Grill Dress Code

So, I got a ressie for California Grill on October, I read they have dress code.
I usually wear tank tops because of the heat, but I'll obviously wear a tshirt that day for this experience.
My concern is for my man. He ALWAYS wears shorts. To be specific:
Khaki Cargo Shorts (Google away!) plus both of us wear sneakers.

So, my main concern is being kicked out. Have you seen this type of short tolerated? And sneakers?

Thanks!

Does this include Khaki Cargo (Considering they look VERY different?)
And sneakers? I guess they are?

Yes, they are very different. Are they in the "spirit" of the dress code - probably not. Will you be allowed in, probably yes. Will you be comfortable in the Signature environment in them - only you know.
We go back to our room and freshen up and change into "dress shorts" out of "cargo shorts". For us, Signature Dining is special.
Whatever you choose - Enjoy

I was thinking of maybe taking a pair of jeans with us in the backpack.
But thanks, we'll try to look our best but my main concern was being kicked out if my man went a little rebellious on me and refused to dress up.
Thanks! :flower3:

I usually think of khakis as long pants, not shorts. khakies are a style not a color when talking about male pants. I would think sneakers are a no no.

I agree with the pp, returning to the resort to change & freshen up before dinner at a signature restaurant.

I knew there would be a confusion, that's why a specified Khaki Cargo Shorts.
If it were simply Khaki Shorts I wouldn't be asking, lol.

We have no way to escape sneakers since we always travel light and not using them while traveling to Disney gives me some serious back and foot pains, never mind the hour lost between coming and going on transport....as long as people don't wear flipflops, crocs or sandals I think we are a little safe (Never mind my rebellious boyfriend hating signature restaurants who rather use the two dining plan points on burgers & pizza. I refuse and want something nicer even if he's the one looking weird). ;)

My wife and I have dined in every Signature restaurant on Property from the Victoria and Alberts Chef's Table (where they actually let you take your jacket off :) ) to Citricos, Narcoosee's, Jiko, Yachtsman, & CA Grill. And I think with the exception of Victoria and Alberts they are pretty lax on dress code and it is more of a suggestion unless you look completely distracting with torn clothes inappropriate language on shirts etc. As long as you "look nice" I think you are good. For your man I would recommend packing a collared Polo shirt and you should be good I am sure they will overlook the cargo shorts. I have seen it all the time in other restaurants. As far as sneakers I am pretty sure they realize pretty much everyone at Disney is in walking mode as such did not mention anything about footwear.

Except at V&A which has an even stricter dress code, think of the Signature Dress Code more like "guidelines". They are more likely to enforce the "not permitted" items and sometimes even these are overlooked. You'll be fine in cargo shorts and sneakers. In fact there is no mention of footwear so there will be crocs, flip flops, and sneakers as well as high heels. You'll see every level of dress from people coming straight from the park to some in evening wear.

THANK YOU! It really is a relief hearing that! :D

purple figment THANKS TOO!

I've worn khaki cargo shorts, collared shirt and sandals to multiple signature restaurants including Jiko, Le Cellier and Yachtsman Steakhouse and never felt underdressed or out of place, in fact never been the least dressed diner at the time. Your DBF should be fine in cargo shorts, sneakers and a nice shirt.

That's the real crux of the issue. I dress up for signature restaurants because I'm more comfortable slightly overdressed than the other way around. I've learned from experience that the bare minimum dress guidelines are not enough for me. I once went to Steakhouse 55 in the Disneyland Hotel wearing jeans, and felt like I stuck out like a sore thumb. My self-consciousness totally ruined the meal for me. There are some signature restaurants with a more casual vibe, but I prefer to dress up for myself anyway.

I am the same way in fact will be taking 2 dresses along in November specifically for our dinners at Kouzzina's and Flying Fish. I also feel I should dress up when dining at a resort signature restaurant as opposed to a signature in a theme park
Where most diners will be dressed more causally.

It basically just comes down to personal preference and if you will be comfortable or feel out of place.
