So, seeing as Beaver Creek and Manhattan restaurants are shut when we are in Disney I had to look for somewhere else to eat.. We wanted to try somewhere new, that wasn't a buffet and wasn't in the parks so we were quite limited with choice. I have the Yacht club+Annettes booked provisionally for another night, we weren't impressed with Rainforest, Cafe Mickey not our thing (adult couple) so California Grill it is!

What I wanted to know was - has anyone eaten here recently and if so - can we just order main+desert? (perhaps even share a desert!) would this be frowned upon?

Also wanted to share our meal plan so far :D

Monday arrive 12pm ish - Annettes and EOS

Tuesday - DLH Breakfast, snack for lunch, Yacht Club (need to confirm this is even open..)

Wednesday - Sequoia breakfast, Blue Lagoon gourmet coffee, Walts - cocktails around the lake night!

Thursday - Sequoia b/f, CS/EOS/snack- Possibly Waffles in DLH, California Grill

Friday - Sequoia b/f, Inventions brunch.. Paris evening meal (undecided!)

not long now :) x

I'd check Yacht Club asap - it was closed mid-May and the girl we spoke to in the Newport Bay thought it was going to be closed most of the summer. Hope I'm wrong but if not, better you know sooner.

I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem ordering just a main course and a dessert.

Are they really planning to close the Yacht Club over the summer as well?! I wonder what on earth they are thinking - that will be three hotels down to just one restaurant each. :confused3

i'm really disappointed they've decided to close pretty much ALL of the table service hotel restaurants...is california grill even open!?? If Yacht club is shut, which it looks like it is i've got another meal to plan!! argh!!

Sorry for butting in... but I still really fancy the CG Dreams VIP dinner if they are doing it in November when we go. However, half of that food looked raw :scared1: I just don't know about it really.

Having said all that, I think you would have quite a good view of Dreams from there you know. And also perhaps from the DLH bridge/corridor I mention in another post as it's in the same vicinity although a bit further along.

Well the amuse bouche is as it's salmon tartare the rest of the things are all cooked

What put me off was the presentation, the aspect of the food, the dessert looks cheap and nasty to me for example and that's the Degustation menu :scared1:

Tasting Menu ... €99.50

Appetizers
House foie gras in a spice bread crust, candied Provins rose petals and Sichuan pepper sorbet
Scrambled egg white and French caviar, piquillo pepper coulis
Surf and turf platter (1/2 lobster and 1/2 Carolais beef fillet) with garnishes
Our cheese trolley
Fresh fruit and chocolate fondue

We are going to try CG...there is a great review of it on theDibb boards. Chocolate symphony dessert looks amazing. yacht club is closed. called today. can't believe they've closed three restaurants in high season. not sure what to replace yacht club with, perhaps blue lagoon but i have an allergy to seafood so i'm not totally comfortable with eating mains there... god i'm fussy!

maybe we will go with hunters grill. I did eat there many years ago (when they had meat on a stick, ergh) and i wasn't impressed, but may be nicer now.

Having an allergy to seafood is hardly being fussy! :goodvibes It's not your fault they have decided to close three of their restaurants - it's quite ridiculous.

Hunters Grill is a buffet now, as is the Parkside Diner which has had some very good reviews.

Is there a list of restaurant closures or do you only fnd out by trying to book it?

Well thinking about it Yacht club had a lot of seafood too! But blue lagoon seems to have more.. There's no list anywhere, only found out by trying to book on the phone.

i've booked both hunters grill+parkside so we wil have a look when we get there and cancel one. phew. i was stressing about that!

So Manhattan, Yacht Club and Beaver Creek are closed throughout the summer for everyones info!

It's so odd that those places are closed :confused3. It gets heaving in summer trying to eat so it just doesn't make sense!

Carrie - totally know what you mean about the CG food pics. The mains look like a buffet - i.e. everything piled on your plate and a bit of a mismatch. Certainly not something you've paid that price for :rolleyes2.

Still fancy the CG Dinner & Dreams for our November trip but I doubt it will be running. I'm going to ask the DLH Concierge when there in 9 days :cool1:! How lovely it is to be able to say that ::yes::.

I bet its because not many people return to the hotels to eat especially in summer- its probably not worth them having 2 restaurants open in the hotels.

Most people will probably eat in the park /village at lunch time and then return to the hotel for a rest/swim then back to the parks again in time to eat in the evening or want to eat after the parade before Fantillusion/dreams/fireworks and so will only venture as far as the village if they leave the park

Good point Small World.

It is probably part of the overall economy/efficiency drive by the company. As you say, no point having relatively quiet restaurants open.

Ahh...just bumping this up to go with the discussions about the Dreams package stuff...
VERY useful link in here to food at the CG

THANK YOU!

I'm even more confused now

If you look at the pictures from June that is the 70€ Tinkerbell menu which looks way better than the offerings on the 99€ one

Will translate it later as it's really fancy speak and I'm not concentrated enough atm ;)

If it is of any help to people, this is my photo set of California Grill with the menus from June in English. Just click on the photos to see larger size.

I took some photos from the Founders Club balcony during daylight and at night ( where you watch Dreams with the VIP Meal ) which can be found with my review on TA, so you can see the view you have of the castle from there.

That is most helpful Figgy girl
I really appreciate all the information.
The irony in all of this is that I don't want a night at this to take away from the parks so time spent doing it needs to be worthwhile...

These photos help a lot. :thumbsup2

I amazed they shut the bar at Sequoia Lodge - but as you say maybe they think no-one will be there mid-day. But there were a number of thirsty-looking people wandering about..... Maybe if the prices were better people would go back fro a drink and something lunchtime, then use the pool;)
