I tried to look for a California Adventures area but couldn't find out, so please relocate this thread if there is one and I missed it.

Here are some photos from the park today. I'm currently sitting at home in Canada;) but my mom resides down 20 mins away from Disneyland and she sent me these photos for me to post on here.

enjoy :)

it looked to me like they are building a beach. or was there a beach there before? did california screaming used to start off in the water?

OK let me walk you through the images as best I can.

The Sun Wheel has its base in a dug out cemented area so that its base is below water level. all of the area around the base will be water someday. The second image shows the base of the Orange Stinger. That will have a Victorian style covered walkway and the base will have water ride up to the concrete base.

This center area is a platform for the water show that will be mechanically lifted out of the water so that staff can maintain, clean and repair it. That is what I have heard on the internet so far. Instead of having divers and trying to train them to do the intricate work of running the equipment why not just push buttons and have it rise from the water.

The beach on your right is actually the ground where a theater will be installed for 9000 guests to view the water show and should be done in December. There is no plans for a beach but instead a sea wall will completely surround the bay with the exception of the rocky tide pool area by the wharf.

Thanks for the pics. I never get tired of seeing them. :)

Yes, Screamin always started out in the water like that. Just above it, of course. :)

There is no special forum just for DCA. DL, DCA, and DTD all fall under DLR. Got that? :rotfl:

wonderful pics and explanation!!! I love that there fixing the park up, I just hate all the paths and fencing. but you know there is going to be a reward in the end. a wonderful park :)

Actually I just updated the December check in thread. December will see walls from the former bathrooms on the west side San Francisco all the way around to Mullholland Madness. The viewing area may be open. The Orange Stinger, SS Rustworthy, and Pizza Oom Mow Mow are will be a wall city as they get ready for the new restaurant. The shops on the south side are scheduled at that time to be closed and rethemed.

January will bring the removal of CALIFORNIA from the front of DCA, retheming of the shops at the entrance, moving the entrance out to where the CALIFORNIA sign was, retheming the monorail bridge, and adding the red car tracks.

My check ins have each month from July to March show DCA scheduled closures, do I have August and I do not have September.

there was no water where screamin started when i was there this week!

Great pictures!

Also, thank you for the updates. Do you know what type of restaurant they will be adding?

2012 probably. The pier area except for King Triton's Carousel will have been rethemed. Ariel's ride will be the last thing along with the restaurant. They will be working on Carsland also. A lot of work still to be done including adding the red car line, retheming the front area and adding the Cathay theater.

Oh, sometimes I have to wonder about myself! :lmao: I thought it read "Carlsland"! I asked myself "who the heck is Carl, and why does he get his own land?" :rotfl2::lmao:

I crack myself up!:goodvibes

Thank you for the updates!

Can you please point me in the direction where I can find out what to expect as far as construction/closures during or trip in mid-November this year? I haven't been to DL since 2007 and now that I am planning a short trip this year this is the first I heard about all the new work and I just want to know what I am in for when we go this November? Thanks!

Oh, sorry, I meant it was always in the water when there was water. :rotfl: Before all the work began.

Miceage has lots of detailed updates and pics on the work and a timeline for future work. I can't wait for it to finish! I remember being at DL while they were building DCA and DTD. They talked about it on the monorail ride and I was so excited- a new park AND shopping! I feel like that all over again! :goodvibes

That is my Novembre Check In and I have posted everything I could find currently or will probably happen.

Closures and refurbishments
  • Dinosaur Jack’s Sunglass Shack is scheduled to close permanently on May 26th, 2009. It will be the site of the line for Mulholland Madness when that ride is re-themed.
  • Souvenir 66 and Corn Dog Castle close June 1, 2009 and may not be back until 2011. You can still get a corn dog fix at the red wagon near Plaza Inn.
  • Enchanted Cottage is the snack bar at the Fantasyland Theater wher Princess Fantasy Fair is located. It is scheduled to be closed July 29 to November 17, 2009.
  • Opera House will be closed until middle of December 2009 and is delayed.
  • Point Mugu Tattoo, Man Hat N Beach, and Sideshow Shirts will close Fall, 2009 and reopen in 2010. They will be re-themed inside and out, including new facades.
  • Dinosaur Jack’s Sunglass Shack is scheduled to close permanently on May 26th, 2009. It does not fit the new theming and while cute may be history.
  • S.S. rustworthy removal is scheduled for removal September, 2009 and no later than March, 2010.
  • Removal of Pizza Oom Mow Mow and Burger Invasion, addition of a grill type of restaurant. Scheduled to start Fall, 2009 and finish by March 2010.
  • Souvenir 66 and Corn Dog Castle close June 1, 2009 and may not be back until 2011. You can still get a corn dog fix at the red wagon near Plaza Inn.
  • July 27, 2009 is the beginning of a year long closure of the Orange Stinger while it is getting a refurbishment, new theming, and a covered walkway.

I need to update that as they are opening a corn dog stand in Bountiful Harvest. This is November as best as I can guess.
Based on that you will have all of DCA open except as follows. There will be a wall around the north side of the bay where the viewing area will be. There will be a wall from where the bathrooms on the west side of San Francisco around and west to Mullholland Madness. There will be a wall around the Orange Stinger.

There is a plan to remove Pizza Oom Mow Mow, Burger Invasion, and the SS Rustworthy to make way for a grill type restaurant with an outdoor patio in front. The south side of the boardwalk will see the shops walled up as they retheme the shop including Point Magu.

Hmm, I am very excited to see the finished product of all of this. I have to admit...I actually don't think the Sunwheel looks any better, I actually think it looks uglier, which I wasn't expecting. I am very excited for the water show though, from the pictures so far it looks like it will be amazing.

Thanks for posting the pics!

OMG the colors and the lights are so pretty. I did not like the mickey face either until I saw this........ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=631FqQalsQo&feature=related

Laurie, do you know what is going on with the theater at princess fantasy faire? I see the enchanted cottage mentioned on your list, but I noticed the theater is empty now too. (not in DCA, but still effected?)

I have not heard anything and they have left the theater empty for ages. I think they are just refubing the restaurant but who know what the Disney people can come up with.
