Upon making my ps for California Grill last night I was told by the cm that "dress is 'smart casual' ". Never been advised of this before.

We've been here every trip, and I'm sure DH has always worn shorts, and a nice shirt. I'm assuming that's "smart casual". Whatdya think?

DH took me to CG for my birthday straight from MK (it was a surprise)

I was wearing jean capris, sneakers, a grumpy tee shirt, and my grumpy sweat shirt. DH was wearing cargo shorts, sneaks, and a tee shirt.

I felt completely underdressed...but NOTHING was mentioned of our attire. I personally like to dress a bit nicer when we go to the nicer restaurants at WDW...but they expect 'theme park attire' to come from a few people.

Indeed they do--it's part of being a restaurant at WDW. People need to be able to do something like you and DH did. Or just the opposite--eat, then go directly to a theme park, etc w/o being all dressed up.
And as you say, nothing was said and probably not a soul even paid any attention to how you were dressed.

Once on my birthday I wore my birthday suit and felt totally underdressed but nobody said a thing...Lots of odd stares though...Oh, and the air conditioning was a little cold!
