Calico Critters?

I have a 4 yr old DD who has expressed a great deal of interest in these "Critters" after seeing them at a toy store. I am unfamiliar with them and am looking for some feedback as to if you child REally played with them, or just got the small little things and they were soon put away and forgotten. My child does like to play with her FP dollhouses and make up little "scenarios" but these critter things are not inexpensive, so I thought I would ask....

My 4 year old DD also likes them at the toy store, but we don't own any. I know the houses are pricey but cute; the little families aren't terribly expensive, but definately more than your usual toy.

That said, I picked up a free brochure, which seemed to make her happy. Don't think I'll be buying them though.

My 4 yo DD has the babies...there are two sizes of critters...I have to say, she plays with them a lot, but definitely gets more use out of her Fisher Price doll house (I think it was called Loving Family or something like that). The pieces on the critter house in some rooms are TINY and come apart easily. I am forever putting them back together. I am thinking it's more appropriate for ages 5+. Very cute though, and we have a store that often has rooms/families 50% off, so it makes them more reasonable!
