Does anyone have a deep chocolate cake like whoopie pie recipe? I do not want the cake to be dry but rather moist. I made some last year and they came out great but I do not remember where I got the recipe.

when you get the recipe , i want it. i made whoopie pies for the first time not too long ago and what a disappointment. They were like 2 chocolate cookies with frosting in between. i want to make soft ones with a light sweet center!

ME TOO! I had a good one last year but I do not remember where I saved it or where it was from. I looked at epicurious.com but it was not the one.

I have noooo idea how to make whoopie pie but it sounds REALLY REALLY GOOD! I wish I did know how to make it. :rotfl:

There's a great chocolate cake recipe that makes a light, moist cake that may work. I haven't made it in anything but regular cake form, so I don't know how it'd work specifically for that application but it sounds like what you're looking for.

Preheat oven to 350.

1 1/4 cups unbleached white flour
1/3 cup cocoa powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup sugar
1/3 cup vegetable oil
1 cup cold water or brewed coffee (or a mix of the two, in any proportion)
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 tablespoons white vinegar

Put the dry ingredients into a bowl. Put the wet ingredients into a measuring cup. Pour one into the other. Mix. It'll foam. Pour into a baking dish (measurements above for a like 8" round or square). Bake for 25-30 minutes.

cornflake, that is a delicious cake! I have made it many times as a 9 x 12. I never would have considered using it for whoopie pies but it would be perfect! now for a light fluffy not too sweet filling recipe...

I've never made whoopie pies but I use allrecipes.com a lot to find recipes for things. Maybe try there?

Okay. Here is an eastern PA version of whoopie pies called Gobs. They have a moist cakey cookie and a creamy buttery filling. My husband's favorite dessert...

2 c. sugar
1/2 c. shortening
2 eggs
4 c. flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 c. cocoa
3/4 c. sour milk plus 2 tsp. baking soda
3/4 c. boiling water
1 tsp. vanilla

Cream sugar and shortening together; add eggs. Sift together flour, baking powder and cocoa. Add this alternately to mixture with sour milk, boiling water and vanillla. Drop by tablespoon on cookie sheet. Bake at 350 for 15 minutes.

Filling:
1 c. milk
5 Tablespoons flour
1 c. margarine or butter
1 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanillla

Cook together the milk and flour for 2 minutes. Cool. (Important to cool completely.) Cream together butter, sugar, salt and vanilla. Add to cooked mixture gradually and beat until smooth. Put this filling between 2 cookies.

Enjoy!
