Ok, keep thinking about asking and along comes this post... I am a newbie, what the heck is with the cake thing????

It started one night in chat a few years ago when someone had pie or cake (can't remember now) and the debate began. Now it has morphed so that when a thread gets heated we post pictures of cake (sometimes pie) and discuss whether pie or cake is better. We even say a thread has "gone cake" when it goes of course.
