I have never actually ordered this from room service. Can anyone who has done so, give me an idea of what cakes might be available.

I've never ordered one either. However, on my last cruise, I attended one of the "Art of Entertaining" sessions. This one was led by the head dessert chef, who showed us some cake and plate decorating tips. I guess I had the image that he was going to do some fancy wedding-cake-type stuff, but alas, that was not the case. Basically he had a couple of round cakes with white frosting. Then he proceeded to pipe some frosting on the borders, put colored sprinkles around the edge, and stick a strawberry and some chocolate sticks on top. Voila - cake decorated. I could have had a V-8.

(By the way, sorry if anyone else enjoyed it! I don't mean to be negative. I just had a different expectation and wish I had learned something I couldn't already do.)

The point of this story is that later on, I saw a room service tray on the floor in the hallway. Sitting on the tray uneaten was a cake just like the one he decorated. I have no idea what kind of cake it was (they let people taste the cakes after the decorating session, but I didn't bother staying around).

Speaking of cakes....has anyone seen that "Good Eats" episode on WDW on the Food Network? It was on the other night and featured a segment on wedding cakes. Talk about fancy! Those were absolutely amazing. They said the most expensive cake they ever made was $15,000.

That doesn't sound too good. Has anyone else had a better experience of the cake of the day? I guess I was hoping for chocolate fudge cake or carrot cake, maybe.

I will ask DS when he gets home from school. I think I remember a Black FOrest cake, maybe a cheesecake. He'll know, he ordered them!

I plan on doing some extensive research in this area on our next cruise. ;)

Any other cake of the day experiences out there?

Tink

Black forest! Cheesecake! Now you're talking! Any more?

I also remember one being chocolate and that there was a cheesecake. We never ordered the cake but it didn't hurt to ask...

I did see the Food Network do the WDW weddings and unfortunately so did my DD who truly believes she is a princess. She was shaking at the thought of having a cake with a Cinderella Castle on top. Wasn't thrilled when I told her she's going to have to wait 20 years to get one! Going to have to stop cruising and start saving for her WDW Cinderella wedding.

We ordered the cake of the day from room service and it was out of this world. They bring them by the slice so don't expect a full cake, unless there is a way of doing that. It was key lime pie and I loved it. I looked for it at every buffet we were at.

There was another special I saw a couple months ago (can't remember which channel though) on WDW weddings. There was an Alice-themed tea beforehand with some incredible Mad Hatter cakes. Price tag for a full bonanza (Alice tea party, luau rehearsal dinner, fancy wedding with horse-drawn carriage, etc.) was around $75k.

Sweet, tell your DD to get a job now and start saving! :)

ericamanda01, was the "cake" of the day a slice of key lime pie or was it key lime flavored cake? Key lime pie is my favorite so I'd be happy if that was the case but I would love to try key lime cake, that would be awesome! :)

I remember getting a piece of pineapple cake and my son ordered chocolate cake with chocolate frosting....the pineapple was awesome....tried a bite of the chocolate but didnt care for it.....:)

ERICAMANDA, can you please tell me how you put a picture under your name? I'd love to do that. Thanks!
