Cooking Cake makers/decorators

Has anyone made a cake in the shape of a cruise ship before? We are taking the twins on the Wonder next year but they've declared their wish for a Disney Wonder cake this year.

I've done Wiggles Big Red Car and Thomas & James cakes before but I think the Wonder has me stumped. The Thomas & James one was hard enough, it took 11 hours and weighed 5.7kgs, I hate to think how long it will take to make a cruise ship. Anyone have any advice?

Hubby said to have a large iceberg and the bow of a ship sticking out the water but I think that may alarm the four year olds...

I taught for Wilton for 8 years and do custom cakes now, just as a hobby though.

You can make a template out of paper, then bake some sheet cakes and cut out the "decks" and stack one on top of each other on top of your serving tray with frosting in between layers. Freeze.
Then take the entire cake out of the freezer and frost a crumb coat while frozen. Then completely frost your cake over the crumb coat.

You can do a Google search for "ship" or pirate ship. I made a pirate ship for ds' birthday and did this same technique plus added a square to the aft of the ship to give it some height.

You could stack cookies and then frost for the smoke stacks.

Oh thank you, I'd not thought about sheet cakes (I can work out what that translates to in my head I think - like flat sponge). I was thinking I was going to have to make the biggest block of cake in the universe and have to chisel out the shape from it. Thank you so much.
