What is the difference between mousse and regular icing?

Good question, one I still ponder over. Someone will come along with an answer, but I remember when I inquired about mousse on the DIS I was told it isn't like pudding.

To me, Disney's mousse is really dense - kind of the consistency of whipped cream cheese or really melty regular cream cheese - whereas frosting is light and spreadable like, um, frosting.
