Cake Flavor Question

We're finalizing all of our documents and need to select our cake flavors. Has anyone had the tropical mousse? I'm curious what it is like and what cake flavor it would pair up with best.

Also, have any Intimate brides had fresh strawberries with their filling? I'm thinking of doing almond cake, amaretto filling, and fresh strawberries for our top tier. I don't think we will be bringing it home for an anniversary cake... good excuse to go back to Disney for our anniversary and get a brand new cake! :rotfl:

Good question! I would like to know this too. It is so hard to choose cake and filling flavors without tasting them. Which ones are best?

I don't know from experience (yet.. :) ) but I've heard a ton of great things about the almond cake with amaretto mousse (some people have even said it's wonderful with strawberries added as well)
Jaxteach, I read on someone's trip report a while back (I don't remember who's) that said the tropical mousse was delicious.

We are having an intimate wedding and our bottom layer is bavarian cream with fresh strawberries, I am looking forward to it, it sounds delicious:banana:

Thanks ladies! I sort of remember someone talking about the tropical mousse as well... I'm very curious about that! I'm thinking of using it for our groom's cake because DF loves pina coladas, so I wonder if it is pineapple/coconut-ty or totally different.

We are definitely having peanut butter mousse and chocolate cake on the bottom layer because I am a peanut butter addict! :rotfl:

A bit too early for me to plan this part but I would love the almond ameretto and also the tropical mousse!

Maybe some chocolate on chocolate too! yummmy!

Thr tropical mousse was interesting....at first taste I thought OH Yuck, which my EM said that usually happens - but then the second taste - I really kind of liked it. Now I was afraid to get it because of my initial reaction AND my hubby did not like it at all.

We did almond cake with baileys mousse and it was good, though I think the amaretto mousse would have been more logical. I just wanted the baileys and did not want to do plain white and was already using marble and bailyes in my mad hatter...so

My cakes were
Grooms: red Velvet w/ butter cream filling - very good
Mad Hatter: Chocolate cake w/ white choc mousse
Marble Cake w/ Baileys Mousse
Wedding Cake Bottom layer: Marble w/ milk choc mousse
Middle:Almond Cake w/ Baileys Mousse
Top:Choc cake w/ milk choc mousse (we ate it on our honeymoon & are having a new one done for our anniversary at WDW)

It stinks not being able to try the cake ahead of time (I'm doing an escape wedding) but I trust what everyone on here says. I'm pretty much set on the bottom layer being chocolate with the peanut butter mousse, and have the top layer be the almond with amaretto. The top layer I'm leaving to DF, but I think this is really going to be his pick.

ABSOLUTELY go with the chocolate peanutbutter !!!! LOVED IT !! I did it for our top layer thinking most people wouldn't go for it. I got a few bites of a piece at the reception and was wisked off for photos. I was looking forward to a whole piece that evening as we had a box full of cake leftover....much to my disappointment, the top layer was GONE !! So I had to make do with the marble and white chocolate mousse (which was also yummy, but not as yummy).

I surprised DH with a grooms cake at our welcome dinner. It was white with the tropical mousse and everyone loved it. DH even liked better than our wedding cake. It is very good and definitely has a fruity/tropical taste.

I loooved the tropical mousse it had a passion fruit/ mango taste. My DH didn't like it at all so it is a hit or miss:confused3

Does it cost more to add fresh strawberries?? I'm doing bavarian cream and amaretto cake, but my EM never gave us the option of fresh fruit! :sad2:

Fresh fruit is extra. I'm not sure how much since we didn't go with that options. Your EM should be able to tell you the difference.

Hiya I've just asked my co-ordinator and it costs an add $50.00 to have fresh strawberries. Hope it helps?

Wow, $50 seems like an awful lot of money for some strawberries! At least I know I probably won't be having them on my cake now...

I'd rather just have a plate of chocolate covered strawberries. but I think DF wants strawberries in a layer.

Thanks! I asked last week as well and received the same price... go figure! :rotfl: I'm not sure a layer of strawberries is quite worth $50.

I have just come back from my planning session down in Orlando and we did the cake tasting. We tried the tropical mousse last. Everyone has their own opionions--my family and I thought the tropical mousse was awful!! My Dad's opionion was that it tasted like vomit (because of the fruity acidic pinapple/mango taste to it). It definately was different!

Yeah, we tried the tropical mousse last weekend... not a big fan of it! I'm so glad we decided to try it before the wedding or we would have been sadly disappointed!
